  • New AMV In The Works 2007-01-02 00:52:22 Well, I'm in a state of stagnation and have decided that I'm going to make another AMV. This one will be better, it will have no cheesy effects, it will be more carefully worked. I was under time constraints and a newbie in the extreme with my last AMV, but now, I think I know a little better what I'm doing.

This AMV will be set to t.a.T.u.'s "All About Us," from the Dangerous and Moving album. It will feature the anime Chobits.

I have always loved the story behind Chobits. I think this will be a nice fit, and I hope I'll be able to make everything sync really well and look nice. I don't think I'm going to make an award-winner, but I hope it will at least be an improvement over the last AMV I completed.
  • Finished!!!!! FINALLY! 2005-11-26 04:49:30 http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=97007

This is my first AMV ever. I have put in approximately 90-100 hours, although at least 20 of that was learning to use the various programs and scripts. All in all, this has been an enjoyable experience for me. Although grabbing the clips and getting them all to look deinterlaced (and saved) was boring and annoying (I had to delete The Sims 2 and Warcraft 3 to make room), putting them into the video and editing them has really brought out my creative side.

I used Vegas 6.0, Virtual Dub Mod, and an array of other miscellaneous programs and scripts. The Masking was especially difficult, since I accidentally deleted Photoshop (and all my other Microsoft Office programs... <.<;;) and had to use Paint and PhotoEditor to make them.

I most likely would have quit after the first 30 or 40 hours if I weren't working on this as a birthday gift for my fiance. It is set to "our" song ("Ana Ng," by They Might Be Giants). And I used Ah! My Goddess, since it's the one Anime that I own which correlates a bit to our feelings for each other (namely, the feeling of destiny and our fated meeting).

This is basically a look into Belldandy's dream. The "dream" doesn't start until 0:45 where I inserted a scene where Bell passes out. Up to that point, Bell and Kei don't actually see one another. I tried to use scenes in this first part of the video which show a correlation between their lives, as if they are two people destined to find one another even though they've never met. At the beginning of the video, there is more conflict, lonliness and longing. As the dream progresses, Bell and Kei are seen more and more together as a couple and the scenes begin to become calmer, more serene. This is especially so in the chorus.

Anyone familiar with TMBG knows that their lyrics can be more than a little off-the-wall. For the most part, I've used lyrical synch. There is a part with lip synch in the middle which I have each character say half of (Keichi: "I don't want the world." Bell: "I just want your half"), but that's the only part with actual lip synching. There are a few parts with intention lip flap, but I tried to remove all the lip flap where it detracted from the plotline. Musical synch is also used, especially at the beginning and during the chorus.

Make a hole with a gun perpendicular
To the name of this town in a desk-top globe
Exit wound in a foreign nation
Showing the home of the one this was written for
My apartment looks upside down from there
Water spirals the wrong way out the sink
And her voice is a backwards record
It's like a whirlpool and it never ends

Ana Ng and I are getting old
And we still haven't walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence
    Listen Ana hear my words
They're the ones you would think I would say if there was a me for you

All alone at the '64 World's Fair
Eighty dolls yelling "Small girl after all"
Who was at the Dupont Pavilion?
Why was the bench still warm? Who had been there?
Or the time when the storm tangled up the wire
To the horn on the pole at the bus depot
And in back of the edge of hearing
These are the words that the voice was repeating:

Ana Ng and I are getting old
And we still haven't walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence
    Listen Ana hear my words
They're the ones you would think I would say if there was a me for you

When I was driving once I saw this painted on a bridge:
"I don't want the world, I just want your half"

They don't need me here, and I know you're there (don't need me)
Where the world goes by like the humid air (world goes by)
And it sticks like a broken record
Everything sticks like a broken record
Everything sticks until it goes away (it goes home)
And the truth is, we don't know anything (don't know)

Ana Ng and I are getting old
And we still haven't walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence
    Listen Ana hear my words
They're the ones you would think I would say if there was a me for you

  • Eight Days To Go... Wheeeeeeeee! 2005-11-12 14:02:40 Well, I wrote something up last night, but apparently I didn't hit the save button... -.-;;; At any rate, the project I'm working on is almost at 75% of the finished product, and the pieces are falling together nicely. I was in bed with the flu all of last week, so I didn't get anything done. Lost a good 20 hours. But I think this is turning out pretty good for a first timer. By the time I've finished with it, I will have put in more than 60 hours of work (a hell of a lot more... Close to 80, including all the time I had to put into learning the programs in order to use them for editing). All in all, this has been an enjoyable experience for me. Although grabbing the clips and getting them all to look deinterlaced (and saved) was boring and annoying (I had to delete The Sims 2 and Warcraft 3 to make room), putting them into the video and editing them has really brought out my creative side again. And it is fun.

This video, as I said before, is set to "Ana Ng," by They Might Be Giants. Most of the non-chorus lines are lyrically synched(which can be tricky, since TMBG is pretty off-the-wall and disconnected in their lyrics sometimes). This is basically a look into Keichi and Belldandy's dreams.

In a little while, I'm going to do a timeline write-up of what I have done so far. Hopefully, this will help me to collect my thoughts and put together a nicely finished piece.
  • Hmmmmmm... 2005-11-01 13:44:26 Looks like I'm going to have to make Keichi "Ana Ng" in my video. It just flows more smoothly that way.
  • Ana Ng 2005-10-26 06:00:21 Well, I started this project around the 4th of the month. I took this last week off and pretended to take up a new full-time MMORPG to throw my fiance off the scent. (otherwise, he'd get suspicious as to why I'm not showing him my progress with my music video. He knows I was working on an AMV, but not that it's for him.) So far, so good; I've finished nearly a minute of the final video, and I have all my clips lined up. I've been using Vegas 6.0, Virtual Dub Mod, and an array of other miscellaneous programs and scripts.

I have till the middle of next month to actually finish this thing. And I think it's turning out well, although a few of the scenes are a little overworked by neccessity... I am endlessly indebted to the makers of the tutorials on this site. Also, there have been several people who visit this site who helped me a great deal.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with the song "Ana Ng," sung by They Might Be Giants. It's I and my fiace's song. He used to sing it to me a lot, and it has a lot of meaning for us. Below are the lyrics. Ana Ng is Belldandy, of course. "The one this was written for" is Keichi.

Anyone familiar with TMBG knows that their lyrics can be more than a little off-the-wall. For the most part, I've used lyrical synch. There is a part with lip synch in the middle which I have each character say half of (Keichi: "I don't want the world." Bell: "I just want your half"), but that's the only part with lip synching. I have some musical synch planned, especially at the beginning and during the chorus.
