Fun at MGL
2002-06-18 08:10:36
Well I've been to Milpitas Golfland twice since I came up here to Norcal, and their DDRMAX2 machine here has Burning Heat unlocked on it! Sweet deal. Already gotten an A on it, but I still can't complete it without missing fewer than 4 steps, which means beating the From IIDX Oni course is still out of the picture.
In Oni mode, you must complete a course of several songs and in each song you are allowed up to 3 steps which you can get a Good/Boo/Miss on, you must get Perfects or Greats on the Rest. If you miss more than the allotted amount you die, and as each stage is completed you get a few 'notches' back on your battery which gives you another step. This means, however, that if I miss like 2 steps on the first song in the course, most likely I'll only be allowed to miss 2 steps on the next one (since it'll probably only give me back 1 notch on my bar).
The From IIDX Oni Course is Absolute Standard, Holic Heavy, Abyss Heavy, DXY! Heavy, and Burning Heat Heavy. I have never been able to beat Burning Heat since I would die so quickly. Now I'm practicing Burning Heat every time I go there so hopefully I'll get good enough at it that I'll be able to beat the Oni course someday.
In other news, people seem to have taken the way I talked about one of my AX videos in a previous journal entry the wrong way. The video is not a criticism of any person or persons, or any specific events. It's a video about pressure, hate, betrayal, abuse, etc, and my desire to make it was inspired by events online (mostly back around the wonderful VCA threads that sprung up at the start of this year, although the song I had thought about previous to that). Me actually wanting to finish it in time for AX was prompted by the even more recent threads, although my work in completing it had begun far prior to it.
But I think the more interesting thing about the video is what category it'll end up in if it makes the finals. Under _my_ definition of what an Action/Adventure category should be, I think it would fit in either Action/Adventure or Drama. I entered it in Action so as not to conflict with my other Drama video, but if they move it to Drama I will not be surprised nor disappointed. It's up to them to decide what they want their categories to look like, I just put down suggestions, and if it were up to me I'd rather not compete against myself, although just getting the videos shown in the first place would be nice enough so I won't complain if they move the video. I just hope people don't start bitching and moaning again if it winds up in action and people think it should be drama. It's too much of a headache to deal with. If I thought the video really did only belong in Drama, I would've entered it in Drama and entered a different Aciton video, but I think it fits in either. Then again, maybe I'm just fooling myself. ^_^
There was an interesting thread that I saw (I don't remember which one) where people were talking about mellow drama videos vs. action/drama videos. This one would definately fall under action/drama, and I think that the current category system AX has really needs to be reviewed because it's just not terribly accurate anymore due to the genre bending videos that are out there nowadays.
Oh well time to sleep. I'll probably go to Golfland again today because, as you probably know from reading my journal, I'm a f@#$ing DDR ADDICT. Woe is me.

MP3 time! Coolest syngery mix ever
2002-06-16 07:50:27
Here's something I did today because I realized on Friday that the two songs were in the same key:
http://www.ermacstudios.org/ShineVsElNino.mp3
It's a synergy mix of Shine by the Space Brothers along with El Nino by Agnelli & Nelson. If you're familiar with either of the songs, check it out. I did it by using a combination of filters to isolate certain portions of the originals and then run them through some expanders/etc so they didn't sound so hollow. Very cool stuff, I dig it.

Back at home
2002-06-15 18:45:29
Well school's over, and I'm back at home until I leave for Japan (excluding trip to AX). Hopefully this'll give me some time to just sit around and relax, take some much needed time off.
Last night for the first time in at least 6 months I actually sat down and mixed some music. Was very refreshing, I have a nice 74 minute vocal trance mix now, probably one of my best ever. I'll probably sit down and do a progressive/dark trance mix sometime in the next week, just for fun.
In video news, I'm sorta in a quandry as to what to work on next. I've got at least 8 different series I have ideas for and it's just a matter of me deciding on which one I really want to do the most.
As for all this stupid stuff that's been going on online, well I guess I'm used to it by now. I just think it's funny people can call me such a complete jerk, yet you've never seen me make some forum thread about how horrible someone is. Buncha hypocrites, I say.

Clipping
2002-06-12 20:14:50
Well there's definatley something fishy about this Aurora CD...
Track 2 has definate problems, and its not the way I ripped it. I tried it on 2 different CDRoms now, and I also tried it on a regular CD player and I think I can hear it.
Here's what the waveforms look like, the top is the US release and the bottom is from the UK release:

Notice the severe clipping. I'm not very happy with this development as I really wanted this song for a video (grumble) and now I may have to import the freaking UK release anyways. Oh well.
