whoops-a-doodle
2001-10-30 20:20:56
Hah, NYU finally after about a month figured out that I was over my allotted web space so my Faye Valentine Video is now offline. My Liberi Fatali video is still online for now since it's on my friend's web space but who knows how much longer it's going to be there. Hopefully they didn't adjust my account so I can't upload over my allotment otherwise I'll never be able to upload my Rei video which I decided I'm going to submit to Otakon next year and maybe that Mindwarp contest this November too.
Ripping footage right now, computer lab was pretty busy but now it's down to about four people, though one of them is just here to use the internet and the rest seem to be able to take care of themselves. Can't wait to get home to do more of my video.

Damn my work schedule
2001-10-30 17:25:30
At times like this I wish I didn't work 6:00pm-11:00 pm in the computer lab on Tuesday and 5:00-11:00pm on Wednesday because there's so much stuff I want to do. Tonight I'm going to be ripping footage from EVA (again) because somehow some clips got past me which I really want to use for my video. I wish I had a huge hard drive or something I could take from home to work so I could work on my video at work, but those things are expensive and stuff.
When it rains it REALLY pours. I have my video, website for my friend, this weekend was the film shoot, I have a 7 page research paper on the use of sound in the movie "Aliens" and I have to come up with an idea for a group project for my Audio Craft class. And then there's my screenplay I'm writing for my screenplay class. Lots of stuff, but all I want to do is my video!! Now I really sympathize with those forum topics where people discuss school work vs. music video creating.
I'm really glad my roommate suggested using "Frozen" for my Rei video because it has very slow moments, faster moments and interesting beats during the song which give nice amount of variation in videos. I think that's one reason Linkin Park songs are so popular because people like having the slow moments and then the loud explosive moments, kind of like a John Woo film with all the slow motion and stuff like that.

Going well
2001-10-29 15:07:19
Whoo-hoo! I'm really enjoying making this new video, too bad I started it when the workload is starting to get intense, I feel like skipping class tonight so I can finish this video but I CAN'T!! Too....much.......fun!! But yeah, really enjoying making this Rei video, I think Rei fans will really enjoy it when I finish it. I've just reached the chorus of "Frozen" and have some cool stuff planned, getting to some parts of the video that will be more upbeat because until this point it's been very mellow. Not that this is going to be an action video by any means, but it's just so exciting for me.
Gotta go to class, didn't have the homework for today finished since I had to come up with a group proposal for what our sound project is going to be when my group is one of those groups that's forced together because everyone else is already taken, I hate this type of situation.

Started new video
2001-10-28 08:47:39
I started my Rei video, I've captured footage from the first 5 DVDs (about 43 minutes worth) and I'm going to capture the rest today which will probably be a lot since there's so much more about Rei in the later episodes. Half of me wishes that I had footage from End of EVA but I hate switching from full screen to letterboxed so this is just going to be from the series.
I'm using Madonna's "Frozen" which has a great mood and tone to it which I think will work for my purposes. I hadn't stumbled upon any other songs or received any other suggestions better so hopefully all will go well. I've only done a little bit, haven't even got to the lyrics yet but I'd almost forgotten how much fun it is editing to music and getting all your cuts exactly how you want them and being nit-picky about two or three frames, fun stuff.
I've been dead tired lately because of the film shoot I was helping on but today I had work so I couldn't go, luckily too because today's the hardest day 'cause they're indoors with lights and stuff (not that they have much room at their location).
Last night I watched "Shaolin Soccer" and holy crap it's the most exhilirating film I've EVER SEEN!!! I don't ever recall watching a movie and then almost needing to pause because it was so overwhelmingly badass and just GAAAH!!!!! There's sensory overload of one kind like Moulin Rouge, but this film is like Dragonball Z characters playing soccer. Imagine a Hong Kong film where the film print doesn't look like crap because it was processed badly and where there are real special effects and wire-removal and synched sound! Aahhhhhh, sooooo goood!!!!! I feel so inspired too, and I think I better understand the type of film I'm going for with the screenplay I'm writing now. I so have to watch it a couple more times with more friends it's so incredible.

can you say abuse of power?
2001-10-23 20:44:06
Well I certainly can. Right now I'm at work, only two people in the lab which means 10 computers not being used, 8 of which have DVD drives which I can use to rip DVDs to make my Rei video which I decided to start capturing for. I'll start editing as soon as I get a really good song but meanwhile I'll store the footage on a DV tape. Right now I'm converting video tracks on five computers, yes abuse of power and I suck.
But hey, otherwise all these computers are going to waste. And I'm not being a complete hog since there's barely anyone here. But if only the macintosh software for dvd ripping were more versatile 'cause I have to rip the entire chapter and don't even know which ones are which, I have to really guess.
So far I have about five minutes of footage I could potentially use for the video but I'll have to go through the entire series to get everything, damn that's a lot of hours of ripping time, especially the speed these things seem to be going. I can only imagine how fast it would be if these were dual 800 mhz quicksilver G4s *drooooooooollllll* But I ain't really complaining 'cause I don't have sufficient grounds to.
Ah well, working on another film shoot this weekend should be lots of fun, get to see friends again and have good food.
