At work!
2007-11-08 12:24:12
Because I need to wait for something to be done at work, I'm a bit bored, so I guess this would be a good time to add some more of the nonsense my head has to this journal.
The Iron Chef tournament s pretty interesting, I think there's this one particular underdog that will get pretty far. My next match against Aerialesque is up this Sunday, which is going to be some challenge. I really need to prepare better, because last match I was picking my sources at the last minute and because I already had the source on my disc, ready and ripped, I didn't go through the source until an hour before the actual editing!
I guess I was lucky that time!
I'm about to release ALICE, my second AMV made in August 2007, because I finally installed Premiere Pro on my computer (I now normally edit on my MacBook) with the old AVIsynth on it. I fixed some stuff, added some color corrections, but for the last couple of days I tried encode it properly, but I keep getting errors with my sound, as if it passes the 0dB (while I checked it properly in Premiere) and therefore becomes distorted at some points. And I have no clue why this is, so if anybody has a clue, please tell me!
Hmmm... maybe I should post that question somewhere on the board.
Darn, I really need my MacBook back, because I really like my Windows! Mac OS X is so annoying in its "smoothness" - I really don't like the the animations and the accelerating mouse and most importantly, no taskbar! Instead they have F10 and F12 I think which is "minimize all" and "show all windows" (which shows miniature windows of the application you've on) and even if they look cool, it's really hard to navigate.
Okay, now I maybe should make clear that I traded my MacBook (which has Windows on it) for a MacBook Pro, so I could do some smooth Final Cut Pro editing HD footage for a small project for school. I need to call the guy up and get my MacBook back! And most importantly, put OSx86 on my PC, so I can use Final Cut Pro and Motion without swapping notebooks.
What's more to write?
Not much more...
There's much to do though.
/looks at TODO-list
There are papers to write, assignments to do, more papers to write, papers to read and ...
Gotta get back to work and then hit the library again!

New year, new chances
2007-09-05 14:10:37
So the summer is already over and a new schoolyear is starting again. Can't say I've done much: I've worked almost fulltime, did 2 exams for uni and went to a bungalow for a weekend with some friends. Oh, I can say I've finished 3 AMVs (that's included the one for Chibicon).
Chibicon was quite awful, the 1st and 2nd place went to 2 typical Death Note & Naruto newbie's WMM-made type-of-AMV-but-you-understand-what-I-mean-the-one-with-subtitles-ugh-vids. You catch the drift. There were 10 entries, with 4 decent-to-good ones. Thought the one of Lick (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=148412) was pretty good.
After that I started working on my AMV for AWA Masters, which is quite experimental, but I guess you guys will see that in end September! In the beginning of October I think I'm going to release at least 4 or 5 AMVs with a frequency of one per week. So that one fan of mine who is reading this, be on the look-out then!
I just hope I finish my AMV for Abunai (a local con) on time. I haven't started yet, but hope to put in 40-50 hours this week, now I don't have that much for school. It's just really hectic, I can officially say I'm doing 3 studies (even though only 2 are active): BSc of Media & Knowledge Engineering (Technical Informatics - which I have only one project for to finish), I just started MSc Human-Centered Multimedia (which has too much reading papers I noticed in the first 3 days) and next week I'm starting a part-time half-year course Digital Video Production (the one that Niotex was also doing). On top of that I have two jobs, working 20 hours in a Quality Control team (which is a fancy word for doing testwork, hehe) a week and 8 hours as one of those annoying people that call you asking to participate on a survey. Think I'm going to quit that job though - I just can't believe I already do that for more than 7 years!
Yeah, it's crazy and a lot of people tell me so. Ah well... I do can say that this is gonna be a great year if everything works out fine and me and my brain don't collapse!
Wish me luck!

Damn...
2007-07-07 01:18:48
Today is Chibicon and I need to go within 2 hours, so I need finish up the last 40 seconds (of the 100 seconds total) of my AMV and encode all that crap. My project eventually didn't go on and I switched to another project - a smaller one. I needed to do 1 minute yesterday and fell asleep...
*sigh*
This is never going to work out!
And this is gonna be the worst AMV ever...
But hey, there must be a bright side to this, right?
Right?
Ehhhr...
(just wish me luck)

The start of Project 8b
2007-06-29 17:44:25
I think I'm gonna write down the progress of my current project, which I will call "Project 8b" for now (will be my 8th AMV on the list - with MEPs though), might be handy to check out how long I've been really busy with it, to structure myself and hope to give you guys insight on how one of the many styles of planning and working out AMVs is like. So I hope this will be informative!
What I've done so far: mostly nothing, today (it's already night) is gonna be the major start. I've chosen the anime, chosen the song, listened to it for 2 hours straight last night and made a breakdown of the song, meaning noting how many beats (probably have a minimum of 54 scene changes in 2:30 min) and how much time I have for each section and thinking on how the built-up's gonna be. I've already got some sort of story in my mind and its built-up, but haven't worked it out completely. I need to check out the jokes and where the keypoints in the song are so I know where to put them the most effectively.
Also, the message must be somewhat clear (even though it's a happy vid, it doesn't mean I don't want to say anything with it), but I'll see if I can pull it off. It would be nice to have it in there, because it would add an extra layer - so more depth - to the AMV.
I realised this is the first song I'll be editing to where's there a more traditional built-up as in music - I mostly choose my songs that it can only have one climax (slowly built to that and break down from that), but this has 2x a chorus, so I need to put 2 climaxes. I'm glad it has some nice bridges to the chorus and from the chorus, so yeah, it'll be different to work with.
So my current to do list:
- clean up HDD to make scenes
- check out whether 720p is doable and not to hard for my MacBook
- figure out more story points and jokes
- storyboard the AMV (these will be first in note form and maybe later on be drawn in one way or another)
- check out how 'PX' works and how to do the effects I want
Check out how much I've done this evening/night by reading tommorrow again! (probably only 3 points, because I need to transfer stuff to my external HDD because this stupid MacBook doesn't have a DVD-burner).
Later!
Doug
