  • lines 2007-01-02 02:18:27 I don't know if people still do line fic challlenges anymore, but I did one once. It's where someone gives a number of lines that have to be used in the fic. I ran across a file I made after doing that challenge. It must be a few years old by now, but it's a hilarious read. Most of the lines have to do with Gundam Wing or YYH, or memorable movie quotes. Some of them you had to have been there to really get. I thought I'd post them on here for the fun of it. I laughed quite a few times reading through it. ^^ Just think like a pervert and most of them make sense.

    What's great is that I don't remember writing half of this. I recognize some of the movie quotes, Interview with a Vampire, Lake Placid, Fifth Element, Bring it On, Tremors 2, etc. And some of the lines I think India gave me. A few from my own fics, too. But that leaves a *lot* that I don't remember ever hearing before. It's amazing what you dig up when you randomly open txt files on your computer. This one was named "lines-266.txt" Like I was going to remember what that file was. Go figure. ;p

    I think #083 is sig-worthy. I may end up using it. ^^; 
  • re: 2006 2007-01-01 19:30:03 Looking back. Last year was a wash. I went to Yaoi-con in October, so the year pretty much ended then for me. It's one of those things where you build up to something and once it's over (and a disappointment) you just sort of float around looking for the restart button. Or maybe I've been playing too many games. That's what I did for the last part of the year, bounce from one game to the next. Luckily I got around to fanfiction at the very last second so I might be doing more righting this year than I did last.

    Videos. I made 7 videos last year. I know. Let's put this into perspective, shall we?

    2003 - I made 73 videos.
    2004 - I made 24 videos.
    2005 - I made 11 videos.
    2006 - I made 7 videos.

    Can you guess how many I'll make in 2007? No, stop, okay. Guess how many I'll make in 2009. Yeah. Zip, zero, nada. And it's not because I have less free time each year. I had more freetime last year than I did in 2003 (when I was graduating from college and maintaining a 4.0 average - finals, final projects, etc). And it's not because videos take longer to make - I still like simple vids and they're much quicker to put together now that I know what I'm doing. It's just the end of a hobby, too much too soon, and now I don't make crap. The numbers speak for themselves.

    I made this to play with the song and try out one of those "how to edit action vids" guides. Turns out I liked the editing style, sortof, but I didn't stick with it through the entire video. I have to con people to even download this vid, let alone review it. So much for making a booby vid for attention. ;p

    This vid was liked by the GetBackers fans. I made it because of the song and the pairing, neither of which I'd seen in an amv so far. Turns out there are quite a few Kazuki fans around who wanted an amv featuring him (minor character). Having the minor het pairing with Ren in there wasn't a bad thing, either. It's in the anime, after all. ^^

    Way too simple as far as the editing goes, but it gets some downloads. It's a remake of one of my 2003 videos, so it's something I'd been meaning to do for years. Hopefully now people will stop downloading the original and complaining about the capture quality. Capture is one of the few things I can promise and deliver these days, even if it means overfiltering illigitimate sources. ;p

    An unknown anime with an unknown song. Trying to get feedback on this one was a bitch. It turns out I'm the only one who remembered this song from its radio days - even my brother doesn't remember it, and I could swear we listened to it on a tape for the entire 6hr drive to Ohio at least once. I was trying out some effects in this video that were very tedious to do. I really like this video. And it turns out there are a few fans of the anime besides myself - I just had to wait a while for them to find the vid and I got that feedback I'd been trying to get in the op exchange, free of charge and everything. ^^;

    More unused sources, though the song was well known. I'd originally thought about doing two versions of this video - one featuring the pale haired characters and one featuring the dark. I think if I'd done the dark haired guys first, the video would get a lot more downloads. Half the problem is that the characters I featured aren't known, and it's just not as much fun to watch a multi vid if you don't know the people. The dark-haired vid would have included charatcters like Sasuke and Hiei, so you can bet it would have gotten downloads just for them. It's okay, though. I watch this vid all the time because I love the characters (know them all, of course), and the editing is FUN. I did all sorts of little color and blur effects, the transform filter, and even shaking to try and make my bright anime sources look a little darker and more actiony. It even has Tokyo Mew Mew in it. How could I not love this vid? ^^

    Old fashioned pron vid, of the gay variety. Yeah. You'd be surprised how many downloads this vid gets. I had to ask for all three of the ops - exchanges, because no one downloading it on my site left any feedback. But it gets the downloads. My server can attest to that. ;p This was the vid where I finally got around to using the actual sex scenes of my various yaoi anime. It's also the one where I realized how easy and fun it is to use manga/dj sources with Premiere 6.0 - it's easy! I know, everyone said it was when I made Dark Half, but that transform filter is just NICE for manga sources. This vid and Almost Golden really pounded that into my head and cemented my love of that one little filter in Premiere. Plus it's a dirty eyecandy vid set to a slutty pronesque song that is so PERFECT for this sort of vid. I love it. ^^

    Now here's my favorite of the year, just because it's so short when I watch it I end up watching it on loop for an hour at least. I threw this together in about 6 hours. As soon as I got the idea I immediately started going through the Tsubasa manga and picking out the scenes I wanted to use. It took about 2 hours to get every frame available for the chapters I needed, another hour or two to color and edit them so I could use that handy transform filter to make them mobile. And another hour to prep the anime footage I was using for color (and filler - natural motion). I edited the video in the last hour or so and voila. Done. I watched it for like 5 hours on loop as soon as it was exported. I can still do that. I swear, if I put this vid in right now I'll be watching it for at least an hour on loop. Love this vidlet. It's so short and angsty. And for some reason the editing is notable to critics. That sort of bothers me since I have those other vids I made last year that took forever and a day and they're called "average and forgettable". This thing I put together in one heated rush (and love to death despite/because of that) gets praise. Okay. But I should have guessed some of that - it's a Fay-centric video, after all. What fangirl doesn't like Fay and Kurogane? And the song is just plain addictive - it would fit any anime and probably still be as loop-worthy as it is with this one. Lucky find. As long as I can keep watching it on loop, I'm happy. This vid makes me want to do another manga vid. I should probably do that before 2009 rolls around and I've reached my vid quota for the year. ^.^ 
  • sad laugh 2006-12-28 22:13:45 So I noticed someone's sig the other day, right? And I'm reading it and smiling a little. Then I laugh at the end. Then I stop for a moment to think about it and I realize only a total nerd or an amv editor would laugh at that 'joke'. It's kinda sad.

    The sig was Nessephanie's, a name I recognize, but not someone I've seen post a lot on the forum. Here's the quote used in the sig:

    I ended up trying to explain the lameness of the joke to my mother, to see if she thought it was funny or sad. By the time I stumbled my way through the differences between dvds encoded in one and the other (which I did poorly - never ask a student to teach something they only have a minor grasp of), she was looking at me funny. then I got back to the punchline and she just...kept looking at me funny. I've come to the conclusion that it's very sad I laughed the first time I read that sig. Not because the joke is lame. Because I understood the lame joke and laughed because it was so lame.

    I never thought of myself as a nerd. I did the goth thing, the bookworm thing, the teacher's pet thing, but I never got into the geeky computer thing because that side of my brain doesn't function as well. Math, yeah, biology, sure, science, absolutely not. To me computers are science, editing is science. Hell, just trimming clips in Premiere 6.0 is more 'science' than anything I did in my tech classes. I'd put myself on the outskirts of nerdness, but I guess I still qualify. It's kinda neat, and kinda sad, but I got a laugh out of it. ^^; 
  • fresh music! 2006-12-26 17:44:39 I don't get that often. At least, not in hardcopy. Friends will send me mp3s, sure, but I don't actually borrow cds often. My brother has a huge cd collection, which I listen to on the rare occassion I ride in his truck. I asked for one in particular I recognized from a movie soundtrack and he came over with his newest cd case and gave me a handful he thought would be good for amvs. It turns out he is the only family member I have that hasn't seen my amvs. Hadn't seen them. I was shocked that his girlfriend had seen some and he never had. So I sat him down and had him pick vids out of my org profile (by song, since he doesn't watch anime). Now I'm ripping cds. ^^ Fresh music!

    It's funny, though. I so rarely get new cds that I never remember which cd ripper to use. I have like 6 of them from before I came here and read the guides. I can never remember which one is the one I got from the all things guide. EAC. EAC. You'd think I could remember that, but, no, I can't.

    One drawback with the EAC program is that I've been told, consistently, that the songs get quiet about halfway through. I never got that with my trial shareware cd rippers. EAC must do something differently - probably something good that my computer just can't handle properly. Maybe it's my sound card or something stupid like that and this whole "exact audio copy" reproduces the glitch my computer has by default. While those bad rippers cover up the glitch so you never notice it. All I know is, using the good program is faster but it ends up with that particular complaint when I use one of the songs in a vid.

    I use it anyway. ;p I don't notice the songs getting quieter halfway through. Reviewers do, but I don't. So...as long as it sounds good to me why would I stop doing what works for me? Yeah, just an excuse to keep using the recommended program because it *is* easier than the others I have, and it doesn't pop up stupid "buy now" reminders ever ten seconds. Plus the songs sound better to my ears than with the other programs. It's not my fault if they sound worse to everyone else.

    Anyway, lots of humor songs and action songs, even a few country (oldschool country, I'm talking Hank Williams not that crappy new stuff). I doubt I'll ever use half of the songs but I look forward to listening to them.

    I'm playing Chrono Cross while I rip cds. I just discovered the fourth Revive in the Viper Manor basement (Home World). It's not in my guide, or in any of the online walkthroughs I've look at. It's very convenient to have 3 of them this early in the game, but I'm annoyed that I never explored the sewers before - just because no guide ever mentioned them. I wondered where that "Witchetty" monster was - it's in the bestiary but I'd never encountered it no matter how often I played the game. It's in the sewers of that ruined manor. Go figure. ;p

    I started a new game trying to get everything once so I could duplicate it a few times in a Continue+ game. And I got sick of trying to trap Carnivore (they never use it) and Deluge (it's always Iceberg when I use that trap) so I'm hunting down monsters I can steal them from instead. Funny thing, the bestiary says you can steal Carnivore from the Loch Nest monsters (Viper Bluffs, Home World). But you can't. The monsters on that bluff alternate. One will have all the stats and items of a monster from Another World, the next will have stats from Home World, and if you're looking for one you always hit the other. I swear, it's not consistent at all. I ran from one Loch Nest monster 10 times and wrote down the items I stole from it:
    3 times it was a common Home World item
    2 times it was a rare Another World item
    4 times it was a common Another World item
    1 time it was a rare Home World item dropped by an entirely different monster!

    The last one blew my mind. I stole a Medicine from a Loch Nest monster. That's just not possible, no matter what world the thing is in. I think I'm going to have to try something else to get those Carnvore spells. I can trap a few in a New Game+ if I yank the Green Dragon around for an hour or two. Other than that...I guess I don't really need them when I have Tornados. It's just the principle of it. Don't tell me I can steal something if I can't. It's in the official bestiary and all the online bestiaries I've found. They're all wrong! Damn their eyes. ;p 
  • Christmas is over 2006-12-24 20:01:51 Whoot.

    I know for most of the country, Chrismas isn't till tomorrow. My family has been celebrating on Chrismas eve since we moved to this state. First we all meet up for service at church, 6pm, and then we go back to Mom's to exchange presents, have some fingerfood, and socialize for a few hours till we all disperse. When we were younger we did have to wait till Christmas morning to get our stockings of candy, but that was years ago. This year we skipped the church thing - so sad not to see Santa this year, really I am - and just met at the cabin. I handed out my crappy impersonal presents first to get that over with. I still find it annoying that the most expensive and personalized present I bought was for my brother's girlfriend. Don't know how that happened. I got to torture the baby with her present. I got her a whole bag of toys, but I only wrapped and brought one with me. Turns out she's terrified of christmas presents because she got caught trying to unwrap them at home. I can imagine what my sister did to discipline her that made her scream and run from the room when I tried to hand her a little colorful package. Hah. I ended up opening it myself - she's not afraid of pretty little dolls if they're not wrapped up.

    I got some good stuff this year. Not that I'm picky, or that I would mind not having gotten anything. Just compared to past years I didn't get anything I can't/won't use. Well, I did get a wallet I'll never carry around with me, but it came with money in it, so I'm not complaining. Got some gift certificates for my favorite take out places, food is always a welcome gift with me. And then my mom really shocked me. It turns out she asked my brother what to get for me and he mentioned that I borrowed his daughter's playstation for a week - because mine stopped playing ps2 games. So Mom got me one. It's one of the slim versions, but it's a ps2. That's great because I decided I wasn't going to upgrade, and I wouldn't have boughten myself a new one until my old one stopped playing ps1 games (I have more ps1 games than ps2 so I could still use it). Now I'll give my half-broken one to my sister since she wanted to borrow a few ps1 games (girl needs a hobby). It's good all around.

    Now I'm gonna take that little wallet of cash and get myself a fresh memory card for my new ps2. ;p I won't leave my apartment for the rest of the year with that.
