JOURNAL: Xereul (Steven )

  • Well, I've started. 2006-10-14 03:46:15 Ok, I've started with the Death Note AMV. Still using Kosheen's "Catch".
I've completed the first 2 seconds with six cuts. The first cut is Light opening his eyes the beginning of the opening, in which his eye will be opening in synch with the beat. The next two cuts are of Light's eyes. The fourth cut is Light writing scribbling something down. The fifth cut goes back to the Light with the red eyes in the beginning of the opening sequence. The sixth cut is 'Kira', which is Light's alias. Although it hasn't been shown in the anime, I used the 'Kira' that Misa drew which went onto tv. I went into photoshop and cut out the word "Kira' from volume three of the raw manga that I acquired then converted it to a .png file then imported it to Adobe Aftereffects and made it into a 1 second film. I then imported the movie file into Sony Vegas and just gave it the tv effect.

The next 2 seconds with be of clips of L. It will follow the same pattern as Light's, with his alias being shown in the last two frames. Since Death Note is only up to episode 2, there is very very limited footage of L. I'm going to have to wait until ~ep6-7 to get sufficient eye shots of L, since the opening video is riddled with credits.

Ok, the next cut shows the clock hitting the next second. Then it cuts to the name 'Lind L. Taylor'. The next cut shows Lind L. Taylor collapsing due a heart attack caused by a cardiac arrest. As he falls, the words "Catch you" appear on the screen in the Cloister Black font, which is in synch with the lyrics being sung. Cloister Black is the font that L uses as he shows himself to the world. Since I can't find any free font packs for Cloister Black, I used this website: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/cloister-black/cloister-black/ and typed in the words that I wanted and then copied the image, went into photoshop, and then cut out the section that I wanted and converted it to film via aftereffects, such as before. The words "Catch you" are using the same media fx as the Kira, but the horizontal synchronisation is off, to give it a more 'hacker'-esque look.

With this in place, the first 4 seconds introduce the two main figures of this AMV: Kira (Light) and L. If you haven't read the Death Note manga or are new to the anime, the story is this: Yagami Light is a genius and is bored with school. Ryuk is a Death God (shinigami) and is bored with his life. Ryuk decides to drop his Death Note, which is a notebook of death. A Death Note is capable of killing anybody within 40 seconds if you have a picture of their face in your mind. However, you can specify when you want somebody to die and what their cause is, so it's only limited to 40 seconds if you just write their name.
Ok, as the Death Note falls into the human realm, Light spots it. After class, he goes and picks up the Death Note. However, as he reads the instructions of the Death Note, he believes that it is some kind of sick prank, like those stupid chain letters. Nonetheless, he takes the Death Note.
Light experiments with the Death Note, and before you know it he goes on a killing spree, in the view that he will become the new God of this world and cleanse the world of evil.
However, the ICPO have assigned L, a genius teenager detective, to track down Kira (Light's alias that commits the murders) in the hope that theey will catch him and sentence him to death.
Light's first conflict with L begins when L announces on television that he will catch Light and sentence him to death. Funnily enough, L uses a a decoy and Light is tricked as he kills the person that announced it, who was Lind L.Taylor. Due to Light killing Lind, L has now found out where Light is since the television broadcast was set only in the Kantou region of Japan. L invites Light to try and kill him. And so the fun begins. Whoever is caught first will be the first to die. Genius vs Genius. Both believe they are justice. Yeah, since the anime is only up to episode two, I'll stop summarising here.

Back to brainstorming, I will have to definitely use aftereffects in this clip. In the chorus, there's a synthesised beat that only appears in the chorus and towards the end. I want to his this as a heart beat monitor. >_> Yeah. If you have read the manga, you should be able to piece it together. <_< The synthesised beat ends at the end of the song. Yeah. Whatever.

I have a slight fear about this song...it may become slightly redundant for some peolpe who dislike techno. However, it is perfect for Death Note. Both Light and L are obsessed in catching the other, since the words "Catch You" appear so frequently in this song. Another thing is the singer's enunciation of words. If you are watching the AMV, you are watching what I am hearing, and not the intended lyrics. If I followed the lyrics 100%, then it would be much more difficult to match the image with the lyrics. You'll see in due time.

Progress: ~30 seconds done in a 3 minute 21 second song. This will definitely be my first video and hopefully it will be showned at next year's Manifest. Yeah, my posts are long.
  • Already made a plan on the Death Note Anime. 2006-09-28 14:23:24 Well, my Berserk AMV has been postponed due to ugh...better concepts. Too many emo AMVs out there.
Ok, I've already got the plan for the Death Note AMV. I'm going to use Kosheen's 'Catch' song. It will suit it perfect. I'm going to make it follow L's point of view. It will be awesome. Trust me, after I learn how to use Aftereffects efficiently (which should be by Death Note's end), the AMV should be nothing short of brilliant.
  • Fireman 2006-09-19 14:39:47 When I grow up, I'm gonna be a fireman!! Choo choo.

Anyway... This will be a long rant and I'm not even half-way completing it.

After lurking here for a few months, holidays have finally arrived in Australia O/. This should be a time of mass studying, but I can't be bothered. Instead, I've started on a project that I've been ambitious on for a long while; ever since I saw 'jihaku' from Tyler_yj. I was considering of making the AMV before Manifest (Melbourne Anime Festival) but with workload at school, it wasn't possible.

I've chosen to use Placebo's 'Song to say goodbye' as well as segments from the Berserk anime adaptation to compose my AMV. For the time being, I'm just going to try to lip synch and match beats and lyrics together with the animation. This may be the only project I will work on for this year, since next year will be hell.

The anime for Berserk was centralised around the friendship between Guts and Grffith, as well as blood, fighting, war, blood, sex, tentacle rape, etc. Although this may be the case for the anime, the manga is more based around the supernatural and explicit rape/sex scenes.

Long story short: Griffith is a leader of the Band of the Hawks; a mercenary group known as the Grim Reaper on the warfield since they are seemingly invincible in battle under Griffith's leadership. Griffith and Guts fight after a few of Griffith's men were killed whilst fighting Guts. Griffith sees a massive potential in Guts and wins him over after suceeding in the duel.

Years go by, their friendship grows, and when all is well and Griffith is on the verge of fulfilling his dream of becoming the King of Midland....Guts leaves him after winning back his freedom in another duel. Griffith feels that Guts is a traitor but all that Guts wanted to do was to seek his own path. Grifffith does some hokey-pokey with the princess and gets caught the next morning. He is sent to a torture chamber where he is on the verge of death.

So, Guts procrastinates and hears the news that the Band of the Hawks is now lead by Big Sister Caska, who is the second in command and was rescued by Griffith after almost getting molested by a Noble when she was still a young girl. So, Guts rejoins the Band of the Hawks and seeks out to find Griffith. They retrieve Griffith, who is now practically skin and bone from the torture chamber.

So, with Griffith back, Berserk really turns around. I swear, the last three episodes of this series made me go 'Wtf'out loud at 3 a.m. when I was watching it. It was a waffle roffler. Anyway, Griffith possesses the Crimson Behelit, which is a freaky egg with features of the human face scattered around. Supposedly, in exchange for your blood and flesh, you will become King due ot the Crimson Behelit. So, in his near paralysed state, Griffith offers his flesh and blood the ritual begins. The Four Angels of hell come out and take Griffith and transform him into Yami no Tsubasa (Wings of Darkness) 'Femto'! lol, when I was watching it, it was so cool. >_>

Anyway, in the process of this, there was lots of bosom grabbing and explicitly violent scenes. Not for little girls who are squemish. Serously.

A stupidly short summary and spoiler heavy summary of the anime.

With that being said, it is pretty obvious for why I chose 'Song to say goodbye', since showing the separation between Guts and Griffith. Mainly Griffith. Some of the parts of this anime fit the song perfectly. I'm having some laughs while making this, since my perception of God and Mother Nature are quite absurd. I'm trying to keep out the bloody violence from this. Hopefully, if this turns out well and not into a pile of steaming crap and I don't get shunned from the community, I would make more...

Anyway, if you read this, you're a psycho.
