JOURNAL: showstoppa (Darryl Hampton)

  • Back in the House 2004-03-08 15:57:41 Hey ya'll. I know it's been a long time since I've updated in here, but there's good reason for it. I have my own journal on Livejournal (Username-blackone Running Off At The Keyboard)and I post there now.

However, I still will pop in here once in a while. Since my last post, nothing much has gone on with me. Still screwing around with life in general. I'm typing this with a cold that I apparently got from one of the foster kids. I'm glad that I wasn't messed up for MegaCon last weekend. I'd been looking forward to it for a month at least and it was fun being with friends that I hadn't seen for a long time.

I didn't even see any anime this time, but that wasn't a big deal really. As for stuff that I bought, I got 6 back issues of Robin, JLA, Teen Titans/Outsiders Secret Files, and Losers for like a total of 6 dollars. I picked up the trade paperbacks of Outsiders a week ago and I really liked it. Hell, I think I like it better than the Teen Titans even though I like Geoff's Johns work on Hawkman and JSA respectively.

Also got hentai anime 4 for 10 dollars since it was cheap although at the next Megacon I check out I'm going to make sure that I get some anime that I don't have to hide so kids won't watch it. I did buy Magic User's Club 2 from Media Blasters and it was actually respectable. La Blue Girl-Live Action deserves to be MST'd. I hadn't watched Tales of Sintillation and Tales of Misbehavior yet, but both have gotten decent reviews and were made by the same group that did the Ogenki Clinic series so it'll be funny.

Oh, I'll soon be using a computer at home for the first time in about 11 years. The Dell computer came in today, hell yeah. I can't remember the specs for it right now since my brain isn't tracking that well, but I do know that it's pretty fast. It's damn sure faster than the library computer I'm typing this on now and maybe can rival what UCF has.

That's all I got right now to say.

    Peace.
  • The Return 2003-12-27 13:47:12 Hello all. Since my last entry, not much has happened to me really. School was eh. Christmas was good. I got a DVD player and a portable CD/Radio Player, 20 bucks and a Miami Hurricanes sweatshirt that only cost 8 dollars. You better believe I'll be going to that store in the future to buy a sports windbreaker for that price. If I knew Mom was going to get me a DVD player, I would've told her to spring for a PS2. The only thing is that I'm going to have to buy a converter thing for the DVD since I don't have the open jack things on my TV. All I have is the cable output in the back.

I also bought myself some new shoes since the one's I had were D.O.A.

If you've read this journal by now, you know that I watch cartoons and all on Saturday. Here's some thoughts. I said earlier that the new Turtles series was tripe, well I'll take that back. As much as I hate to say it now, it's better than the old series was for three reasons, tighter plots, better character development and more action. However, I still think that the series could throw in some humor now and then instead of staying completely dark.

I also thought Sonic X would be a lot better than it is. It's just not watchable anymore. It was dumbed down too much for the kids. Oh and Xiaolin Showdown is also decent, mostly for the main villain and Kimiko. As I look forward to the new season of the WB mainly, I'm praying that they don't screw up Astro Boy. I've read a couple of volume of the manga and enjoyed it.

Umm, the WB has also decided to bring Static Shock back in X-Men:Evolution's time slot at 11:30. I'm hoping they bring back Evo later in the year, but if they canceled it I'm not going to be pleased. They ended it fine last season, but they still could've at least done another season before they pushed it out the door.

Power Rangers don't die, they just move to ABC. Since I don't have cable, I'd be curious to see how it plays on Disney.

Not much else to say. Have a good New Year's all.

  • I'm back in the house, mofos! 2003-11-26 09:12:08 Catchy title huh? Hello all. Since my last entry, I finished Shaman King and now I can say for certain that it's among my favorite anime series. Hao was a bad ass protangnist when he finally got going and all of the main characters growed, changed and went through a lot of pathos and all. I need to start reading the manga of this though because I'm sure that certain groups were fleshed out a lot more like the Lily 5 and the X-Laws.

Oh and the X-Laws are tight just for the simple fact that their little theme song reminded me of Sephiroth's music from FF7. They have freaking mechas and BFG of mass destruction at their disposal, so that get's some cool points. However, I know I'm going to cringe when the Fox Box actually gets to the Shaman Fight stuff, which will start up in late December if I remember right.

Let's see, currently reading Ann Coulter's latest disgrace to writing in general Slander. I'm only like 90+ pages in and she's annoying me. I picked it up on a whim to laugh at her conspiracy theories, but just because you through in millions of facts doesn't mean the arguement is sound. From what I can gather, she's saying Senator McCarthy was God, liberals are the anti-christ and republicans can do no wrong. I think I'm actually going to check out the audio book, just so I can hear her emphasis her arguement and yell, "Shut up, you receptacle!"

The Magic STILL haven't won. They fired Rivers and nothing's changed. I'm not amused by this. Also not amused that I have to work on Thanksgiving. The company is basically saying that you could only get one holiday off, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. I'm going to make damn sure I don't work on Christmas but I hate that I even had to make a choice. Last year they wanted me to come in on New Years when I was sick as a dog. Knowing my luck I'll get sick again and have to drag myself in.

I've just been thinking of something. I've read a lot of Piers Anthony's Xanth novels and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Anthony constantly pokes at his critics for bitching about his style and while I like his work I can see why. When you read Anthony you can expect romance, stupid humor and some reference to a woman's undergarments. I wonder about that fetish of his. I guess I like Pratchett better because beneath the Monty Python style, you can really identify with the situations the characters deal with. Hell, Feet of Clay was actually pretty damn dark but then that always seems to happen whenever Vimes is involved.

Oh, my local comic book store is having an After Thanksgiving sale, 8-9 am 20% off, 10-11 15% off, 11-12 pm 10% off. It doesn't cover new books, but that doesn't matter all too much to me because the only things I pick up besides back issues are Teen Titans, Batgirl, and FKATJL. Although I might have to check out Hawkman after I read a throw in issue of the series. I really wish I had more money, but I'm poor.

Tis all for now. To everyone who reads this, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
  • Running off at the Keyboard 2003-11-10 09:38:23 Salutations all. I'm back in the house and running off at the keyboard.

I got my Shaman King tapes on Friday and I'm up to Episode 37. For the record, I spent most of the weekend watching this so that's why I'm more than halfway through the series. As for what I think of Shaman King, I'm definitely down with this. In fact, this might turn into one of my favorite series. I'm not pleased what the person I got this from though. On the 16-30 episode tapes, he taped 16-18 twice and the tape stopped at 20 with Jun and jumped all the way to episode 24. I heard stuff happening but I didn't SEE it. He also recorded Episode 27 twice and I think he skipped another episode somewhere because I didn't see where the group was attacked.

As for the characters, I pretty much like everybody except Lyserg. He's whiny as hell to me and is soft. Yeah, he wants vengeance against the main bad guy but he doesn't have confidence in himself. I see three things happening to him in the manga, which I believe is still running in Japan. He sees the error of his ways and goes with Yoh, He stays with the group he's with now and dies with them or his quest for vengeance overwhelms him and he dies trying to destroy his enemy. (I'm trying to keep spoilers to a minimum for anyone reading this)

Anna's awesome as a character and I can't help but think that she's a lot like Rika from Digimon and Yoh's one of the most laid back characters in history although when he gets mad, he gets MAD. I'm also interested in seeing how Fox is going to tapdance around Ryu's one-sided relationship with Lyserg and even Billy. I didn't see the episode that introduced Anna and I'm sure they didn't say that Anna was Yoh's fiancee and all.

Oh and since I'm on the subject, now I can speak on the voices for Shaman King. Fox Box really messed up Ryu's voice. In the Japanese version, his voice is manly not a crappy Don Carnage knockoff. The voice they pretty much nailed was Anna's. I can deal with Morty (they REALLY couldn't find another name for him?) and Yoh's voices although both are better in the Japanese version. Hell, Fox Box even annoyed me with the voices of Ryu's gang.

Man, the Orlando Magic suck right now. Against the Pistons last week, they shot my age for field goal percentage (25). Then they score over 100, which in today's NBA should be a cause for celebration but they manage to lose to the Bulls because they can't stop anybody. Then on Friday, the Magic lay down like bitches to the Timberwolves in a disgrace of a game. I've followed them since they came here in 1988 and I'd never seen them quit like that. Then on Saturday, they finally show some life but the Rockets were better because they couldn't play defense late. I'm sounding like a broken record with the fact that the Magic can't play defense, but it's true. It was just like this last year and I can see that they'll make the playoffs and lose in the first round AGAIN, which will make my want to kick my foot through the television screen.

I've watched Teen Titans and I like it. A lot of the old-school fans hate the show because it's not as serious as the original series and because DC canceled two decent books (Young Justice and Titans (3rd version) to bring the Teen Titans back. In the end of the day, DC is all about getting money like any other company. At least they made a series that isn't a disgrace to cartoons everyone. I would've liked for the series to really explain why the teens decided to form the Titans in the first place and show a episode with them off duty like the original series. Maybe they'll do that in season 2.

Work's annoying me. I walk into the lunch area and a bunch of people just laugh at me for no good reason. I know I'm not Denzel or anything, but I make an effort to look presentable at work. More than the bastards deserve, but I do have a level of professionalism. I had to deal with this bullshit in high school and it pisses me off. I can't help it if I really don't want to associate with stupid people who like things that I don't like I.E. most mainstream rap, drag racing and drugs.

And on that happy note, I bid you adieu.
  • Slogging Along 2003-10-27 11:01:34 Hey everybody. Back to ramble some more about whatever comes to mind.

Since I last graced this journal, I got my ebay items and it was exactly what I thought it would be going in. The person who sold them to me did send my items fairly fast, so that was good.

The Sailor Moon knockoff girls in Venus 5 have potty mouths. Every other word out of their mouths were cursewords. Not that I'm a paragon of virtue myself, but it was interesting. Sailor Moon might've been a lot better if you heard Ami drop some F bombs once in a while, ;)

Glad that the WB is pushing Scooby Doo and Ozzy and Drix aside for Teen Titans and Shaolin Showdown respectively, although I wish that Titans would've replaced Mucha Lucha. God I hate that show. It's not even trying to be about luchadore wrestling and don't give me that it's just a funny show stop being so critical crap because it doesn't even do that right. The Flea is a cut-rate Spanish Rock and if I was the Rock I'd beat the creators of that show senseless for screwing up his character. I'm not sure I'm going to be into Shaolin Showdown much. It may be an "Anime-Inspired" Sensation and all, but the promos aren't doing it for me.

Just another note, I'm anxious to see the season finale for X-Men:Evolution. I'm pretty sure that they'll be touching on the Phoenix saga then and I'm curious as to how that's going to play out. In the old cartoon series, they played it pretty much by the letter to what the comics did.

I'm actually getting some non hentai related anime. I'll be getting the entire Shaman King series/movie for 30 dollars. I put the money order in the mail late on Friday and I know it was picked up on Saturday. Since he's in Gainesville I expect that I'll be seeing it on Friday or Saturday of this week. I won't be spending any more money until Christmas and I've need some new anime titles that I could show to the foster kids. All I own is Tenchi Muyo, all of Flame of Recca, X The Movie, and like 6 adult titles.

I currently like the Tao family in Shaman King, especially Jun and Jeanne (I think that's how her name is spelled). Green haired females are always fun.

The Florida Marlins won! I'm just glad to see that the Yankees got punked out.

To Bish, I checked out your blog and read through most of the discussion on that thread. All I have to say is what the mod did was crap. Too tired to really dish out my special brand of sarcasm on that subject.

    I'm out
