Eh

Catchy title, huh. I'm back again. Feeling a cold coming on, which is just peachy.
I should be getting my auction wins on either Friday or Saturday.
Woo-hoo, glad the Florida Marlins fought back last night to force a Game 7 tonight. I've got a feeling that the Marlins will pull out the win, just because these are the damn Cubs. Their mission in life is to lose. I want the Red Sox to win in the American League series, just because I hate the Yankees.
Just some thoughts about the new Tarzan series. I caught some of the first episode between innings of the Cubs/Braves Game 5. First off, Tarzan in no way shape or form should be breaking out kung fu moves in his fighting style. I saw him do a freaking legsweep, following by a quick punch to the face and to top the entire first fight off he hit a spinning kick to surprise the lead redshirt. Second, the guy playing Tarzan is too damn good-looking. I know he's a former model, but I couldn't buy him being from the jungle at all. I guess he should just a bit more rough or something. I should've known the WB would screw Tarzan up. They've done a fairly good job with Smallville, but they completely messed up Birds of Prey from the get-go and I think that this won't last for than a couple of seasons at best. Sarah Wayne Callies as Jane and Lucy Lawless both deserve better.
Slowly but surely, I'm working on my fanfiction. I was in a funk regarding it, but now it's going to be fine.
I got the third and final installment of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel trilogy. If you ignore everything else I write in this space, don't ignore this. Go out and buy this trilogy, you won't be disappointed. The world Carey made is awesome and the lead heroine is one of the most original female heroes that I've read.
Glad that the WB is deciding to put the Teen Titans on the Kids WB lineup on Nov. 1. Now I can see what the hype is about. I know that the new comic series and hell the old series was a lot more serious than this cartoon version. If nothing else, the show has a kick ass theme song.
I'm tapped out. Peace.

Rolling in Dough

I'm back and better than ever. (Right) Since my last entry, I found that Amazon.com said that they had my check for the textbook. However, for some reason the billing department can't FIND the damn thing. That And as for the report, well I did just like I thought I would. F.
In point of fact, I'm going to just cut my losses now and withdraw from the Lit class now. There's no point in staying in a class that's going to hurt my GPA the way I'm going. Besides the fact that I don't have a textbook, I just can't make myself care about the class. Too much boring reading. The Puritans should've never been given pen and paper. I've also decided that writing isn't going to be my career. I've been writing fanfiction and I like doing it. People who have reviewed my stuff liked it. But I'll never be good enough to write for a living. Hence, I'm going to listen to my mom and go into teaching, probably elementary since kids actually like me for some odd reason. I figure I can do teaching for a while and use that to branch into something else later. I remember a old high school english who teacher did that. He stayed at my school for a year and then left to work for a computer company.
I'm going to be rolling in dough because I'm going to sell my complementary passes to Universal to a co-worker tomorrow. I'll get 60 or 70 dollars for the tickets. We're not supposed to do that, but I'm a rebel, :) I'll use some of the money to pay for my latest Ebay wins. I'm going to get the second episode of the Venus 5 saga and Angel of Darkness 2&3. I really wanted Ruin Explorers Vol 1 and 2, but I got outbid by 2 frigging cents. I could've probably beat the person if my computer would've loaded up faster since it was showing that I was winning when I was losing. I might use a bit of this money to buy some Jpop as well.
The Terminator is the governor of California. Goodie.
Not in the mood to put down any more thoughts right now. I think my next run will talk about the WB's Tarzan, The Florida Marlins, and maybe yammering about the manga for Marmalade Boy.
I'm out.

Opinions, opinions, everybody's got one.
2003-09-29 11:21:21
Sup, ya'll. Back again to bitch and moan and review stuff.
Talked to a classmate Friday about borrowing his book and making some copies of the articles I need to do the damn American Lit essay. Nice of him to not show up today, which means that he better be there on Wednesday or I'm just going to have to pick someone at random and hope he or she will let me copy crap. Damn teacher won't let me use the internet as a primary source. I have a pretty good feeling that the Pima and Iriqouis origin stories are probably the same damn thing as in the book.
On a whim, I decided to watch the live action Scooby Doo movie. Despite myself, I actually liked the movie. Scrappy as the main villain was funny as hell. Linda Cardenelli (Velma) and Matthew Lillard (Shaggy) did great as their respective characters. I wasn't quite as thrilled with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr as Daphne and Fred. I especially had problems with Prinze's performance. He was just too wooden to me. Fred isn't that hard of a character to do. He's basically a cut-rate Dudley Do Right.
Time to switch into CPM for a minute. Linda Cardenelli is hot as hell. I saw some outtakes after the credits to the movie that they should've put into the movie, specifically the locker room segment involving Linda and another scene involving her in which she breaks out the lounge torch singer act while tipsy. I believe they're going to drop a sequel to this sometime next year and I might check it out. Overall, Scooby-Doo gets a C-.
Now to continue on the opinion bit, I bought the second issue in the 4-issue Magdalena mini-series. The plot so far is like this, Patience (the Magdalena) runs away from the convent that she's lived her entire life in to experience life outside the convent. Patience runs into a wild woman named Rowan and they bond and all. A mysterious group takes Rowan away. A man named Kristof comes and said he could help her save her friend if she came back with him to Malta to repair the Spear of Longinus and save the world from destruction. (I can't help but think about Eva whenver I see those words).
Characters-C-, Patience is pretty cool and I like her innocence and everything. CPM, I especially love her looks. However, I'm not feeling Kristof (who looks a lot like a younger Jonathan Frakes to me) and the Legolas-ripoff Brother Mathias.
Art-A-This was the reason I dropped money for this in the first place. The artwork in this is gorgeous. I especially liked the scene that showed Patience's happiness at putting the Spear back together and the last page with Rowan.
Plot-C-, We got some backstory about the Spear of Longinus and another important weapon, the Spear of Lugh in the beginning, but the betrayal by Mathias could be seen a mile away. The battle with Patience and Kristof versus the cannon fodder of the Brothers was nice and all, but that wasn't enough to make me really get into it.
Overall-C-Unbelievable artwork can't overcome a mediocre story. This thing is only going to be 4 issues, so I'd think that more should've went down. I'll be on the lookout for the next issue in this, but I won't be too disappointed if I miss it.
Next up is the Harlem Beat Manga Vol 1 and 2. The deal is like so. Nate Torres dreams of being a big time high school basketball player, but he's stuck on the pine. So Mr. Torres blows his shot of making the team and takes his dream to the streets.
Characters-B- Nate is a likable guy, Mizzy right now is your stereotypical plucky female character who inspires Nate to be better, Kyle (OZ) is an tough gangbanger who's crude but has a heart of gold in there. The supporting characters are cool as well, especially Shurman.
Plot-B-This is mostly about showing how Nate is slowly learning to be a better baller since he's got NO game to speak of and thus be more confident in himself but we also see potential angst with Mizzt's mom not being around a lot and Kyle stealing money from his family to get better gear. However, this is shown in a humorous manner.
Art-B+ The detail Ms. Nishiyama put into the basketball scenes were awesome. I'm a basketball fan, so I was glad to see that she spent a lot of time on this aspect.
Overall B I enjoyed this manga a lot. Harlem Beat gives off a feel-good kind of vibe. I cheered whenever Nate would learn how to hit a layup or play better defense. I actually plan on buying as much of this manga as possible. I want to know how these characters do in the tough world of streetball. However, I will say that I hate the Mizzy nickname for the main female protangnist. I know her Japanese name is Mizuki and dammit to all hell, I refuse to recognize Mizzy as her nickname. I don't care if it's probably what her name translates into to, it's crap.
That was a long diary entry. Take what I written in the reviews with a grain of salt, after all it's just my humble opinion. Since I'm in the mood, I'll probably ramble on with some more reviews on the stuff I read Labor Day weekend in the next diary entry.
I'm out.

My two cents on various stuff
2003-09-24 12:35:45
I"M BACK! It's been over a week now, so I finally decided to ramble off at the keyboard as it were.
Lost my cell phone and got it back. Umm, sent off an ACE Money Order last week to pay for a textbook I REALLY need for my American Literature class. I need to read the stuff in the book so I can have an idea of what the fuck I'm doing since I have an essay due next week. I just missed passing the first quiz I took in the class. Amazon said it was the trifling textbook is supposed to be sent sometime between now and Friday if they recieved the money order. They should've gotten it and the order should've been processed by now.
Turned 25 on Sunday and got nothing, which was expected since Mom was short on money. I'm hoping that she gets me a walkman or CD player since both are out of commission.
My brain is brimming with the urge to work on my mediocre fanfiction instead of my essay.
Watched Shaman King the past couple of Saturday's. I can't speak on how much Fox has cut out of the series since I've only seen the first two Japanese episodes. However, I can say for certain that at least they didn't screw up the voices for the spirit warriors. I also can tolerate the main kid's voice now that I've actually heard it more than in a sound clip. It's still crappy, but it's not the worst dubbed voice ever. I think Shaman King will do well for the Fox Box. I'm interested in the whole premise, although I'd probably be better served finding it uncut somewhere. Besides, it's going against Pokemon and that little yellow rat will never be shown on my television set again at least until they finish with Master Quest. I watched the preview episodes of the new season for Pokemon and I actually couldn't hate it. Brock and Misty weren't with Ash and the new girl (May) that's going to be with Ash is actually cool for the simple fact that she's not really into Pokemon. May only wants to get out of town and explore. Going with Ash is a good bet for that. Also, more gangs besides Team Rocket will be introduced as well. Gangs that are actually competent.
Sonic X is tight and they've got Knuckles' anti-social attitude down to a tee. I'm not pleased by the pet humans, Chris and his grandfather. However, as long as they are only seen sparingly I can tolerate them. I also hate the names for the Chao and the girl. Cream (girl) and Cheese. That's crap and the pun isn't funny. I actually like Amy more in this than I did in the games. That's probably because she's a bit older.
Just a note, Disney's Fillmore is the best cartoon TV show they've done in a long time. Now if they could only work on breaking off an original movie instead of remakes or sequels I'd be happy.
I was going give my opinion on Magdalena #2 and the Harlem Beat mangas but I'm not in the mood right now.
I'm done.

Life Sure is *FUN*
2003-09-10 11:05:44
Back again to deliver more goodness to the masses. Hey, I got 19 hits so far. I know for a fact that I'm not the only person who checks this out.
Since my last entry, I was happy that I'd finally gotten my short-term loan. Of course, by this point I should've had my book right. Well, boys and girls you'd be WRONG!
That's right, after a week I still have absolutely NOTHING. The bookstore is out of the damn textbook, which means I have to go to Amazon.com and wait a couple of weeks, give or take. But hey, at least the estimated shipping date is on my birthday, September 21st. I'll be a quarter of a century old, by the way. I'm already behind in the class as it is since I added it when the first week went by.
Oh, and I'm getting over a cold and Mom's on my case about how I'm screwing up my life. She didn't say it so crudely, but I know that she's right. Yeah, this is going down real smooth.
My grandmother is in the early stages of Alzheimzer's. I always remember how I could never get anything past her when I was a little Showstoppa, but now.
Hell, I can't even try and be happy right now.
Next entry won't be as angsty. I needed to get some of this off my chest.
I'm out
