Manga, Comics, and Money-Combo of the Ages, :)
2003-08-30 12:09:06
Back again for more inane writing.
After 10 days, finally got my short term loan in the mail. UCF sure took their sweet time.
In a miracle, I managed to drop my C Programming class and add American Lit instead. The reason this kicks ass is now I don't have to come to school on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, I'm still going to have to go the cashier's office next Saturday to pay for my classes and all. Me thinks they wouldn't be pleased if there's no money in their hands.
Also, because I changed classes my books didn't cost as much, so I have some leftover money. Ergo, I went to the comic book store and bought some stuff, specifically The Magdalena #2 and JLA 41-50 (Giffen/Dematteis version). Time to slip into CPM (Chauvinist Pig Mode) for a second and say that the latest sister (Patience) who's taking on the Magladena mantle is HOT. You can't lose with a warrior nun that wears tight leather. The comic version of Teen Titans is worthy of the hype. I read the first issue and liked the characterization of the characters and the disharmony already brewing in the team. I wish that DC didn't have to take out Young Justice to bring this about, but as long as they have good stuff like this I can deal. Hopefully, it'll still be there when I have money to spare next Friday.
But wait, there's more.
I'm currently typing this in the Orlando Public Library Computer Lab. But before I logged on, I decided to go to the Young Adult section and check to see if there was anything new. After all, that's where all the comic and manga selections are located.
Jackpot!
I've got the Harlem Beat-Vol 1 and 2, Marmalade Boy-Vol 2, Ranma 1/2-Vol 2 and 3, Nausicaa-Valley of the Wind-Vol 2, Kurt Busiek's Astro City-Life in the Big City, Spider-Man's Tangled Web, Usagi Yojimbo, AND the hardcover version of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again. They also had Cardcaptor Sakura 1-2 and FY 1-2. Maybe I'll give CCS a shot, but I'll never pick up FY. The anime went too long and was too sappy for my tastes. I'll take a shot and say that the manga wouldn't be much better. I'd like to thank Tokyopop and Viz for bringing manga over and thus giving me a lot to read over the Labor Day weekend. When I really have some money, I'm going to buy the first or second volume of Ice Blade. The main character is a icy cool cop who's described as a modern day Bond. I checked out the preview and liked the drawing style. I'm probably going to get either the director's cut of KITE or the first volume of Ruin Explorers someday and if I can find One Piece somewhere, that's on the list too. Bish has been pushing this series and I'm a believer now.
As for Harlem Beat, I like basketball so I'll give it a shot. I already liked the first volume of Nausicaa, so I know I'll enjoy the next installment. Ranma 1/2 is cool, so that'll be tight as well.
I'll probably also pick up a big fantasy novel and maybe a video or something to complete my reading.
Maybe I'll work on some of my fiction over the weekend, but I don't if I will now. I usually write when I'm in the mood and at this moment, I'm not really in the mood for it.
Mom is going to stop the foster kid deal after November. I'm glad she is, not only because I won't be bothered anymore but my mom will be happier. Most of the kids we had got on my mom's nerves. The only one I really liked was the first kid we had. She was 9 and was a good luck charm for me when I was playing Yu-Gi-Oh on my Playstation. When she was there, I beat Bakura without him pulling out the Milennium Shield and Labyrinth cards like he usually did. Of course, now Pegasus is kicking my ass but those are the breaks.
Sometimes I thought that mom was going to snap. One kid named Fantasia wouldn't give mom respect and talked back to her constantly. (Who the hell names their kid after a Disney movie?) Fantasia's little sister would come into my room when I had the door closed and wake me up. Mom told her that when the room was closed, you couldn't come in. The little brat would cry and raise a fuss, a lot of times for no good reason except she had to be the center of attention. I know it can't be easy to be in the foster system and move from place to place, but those two especially pissed me off. Let's see, I had a feeling that if I was younger a foster girl would've tried to do something with me. No, that's not my male ego talking there. Joy.
I'm out like shout.

Yet More Ramblings
2003-08-23 12:41:49
Back again to ramble on.
Have to admit that I'm getting paranoid about my short term loan. Through a miracle I still have a C average, so there's no reason that it shouldn't be approved. Hell, I'm going to have to pay the trifiling thing back at the end of the semester. I need the damn money to pay for my books and all. Considering the track record of the financial aid office at UCF, my paranoia is justified.
Since my last posting, the demon kids that raised my blood pressure are back with their daddy. *happy dance* Now we've got two new kids, but they're fine. They're quiet and stay out of trouble. Although the oldest one about 13 or so has had notions of running away before.
Caught the sneak peek of Sonic X this morning and I have to say that I'm definitely down with this series. The animation's tight and it's going to be more serious than the ABC/Syndicated version a while back. The only drawback could be the pet human introduced right at the end. I hope that he or any friends of his aren't stupid. The original Transformers series and that piece of crap series Transformers Armada was afflicted by this.
Also saw a promo for Shaman King and I hate the voice for the lead character. I know he's a kid, but his voice is too whiny for my tastes.
Bish, glad you got the manga of One Piece. Still haven't checked out any episodes, but maybe I'll get a chance one day. You've been pushing that series relentlessly whenever we've talked.
Last manga I read was the first volume of Ranma 1/2, which was fun. Umm, another manga I checked out was Naucissa: Valley of the Wind (I know I probably spelled that wrong). Naucissa is what Relena was supposed to be in Gundam Wing, strong, regal, charismatic and most important not annoying. I might have to get the rest of the series in the future.
Managed to break through my writer's block. Aww yeah.
Peace, love, and hair grease ya'll, ;)

People actually read this shiznit.

*waves back at Bishounen Stalker* I figured what the hell. I'm sending Phade his payment via mail either tomorrow or Monday.
Damn Florida weather. I was walking onto campus so I could print out some stuff. Would've done it at the Orlando library, but it's a lot cheaper here at UCF. Anyways, got caught in a freaking deluge and now everything is fine now. Grrh.
Happy that I found a website that has some Hikaru Utada music videos that I can download and also happy that I found a streaming jpop station that I'll be wasting my school time listening to.
Bish, if you were in my family, you wouldn't have to worry about harping on the anime obsession. Nobody in my immediate family bothers me about it. I think they figure that as long as I'm not going off like a homicidal maniac everything's all good.
Umm, continuing on the online tip. Found an episode of Full Moon wo Sagashite and liked it. Basically, the series is about a young girl who wants to be a singer, but her throat cancer is an obstacle. Two visiting shinigami come and tell her she only has a year to live, so she decides to go for her dream. It's really cute, but I liked it because of the upbeat songs and the heroine is likable. I'd buy it.
I have now offically declared my candidacy for governor of California. Hell, everybody and their mom's getting in there why not. I'll damn sure run the state better.
Been reading a lot of fantasy novels this summer. I recommend any fantasy fan check out Kushiel's Dart and Kushiel's Chosen by Jacqueline Carey, The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon, Planet Pirates by Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Moon, and Jodi Lynn Nye, The Barbed Coil by J.V. Jones and any book in the Vorkosigan Saga series by Lois McMaster Bujold.
I'm out for now.

God Help You All
2003-08-13 14:10:12
Time to ramble about anything I can think of in my head.
Job sucks, yeppers.
Demon seeds (aka foster kids) raising my blood pressure and making me older than my time, check.
Looking forward to going back to school. Dear God I must be a masochist.
SPOILER for Order of The Phoenix-Wanted to kick somebody in the neck for Sirius getting killed off in Order Of The Phoenix. Dammit to hell. He's not my favorite character, but why the flying frell couldn't Ron die? I don't ask for much in life, J.K. Make my dream come true and kill the annoying little punk off before the series is finished.
Hope the Fox Box doesn't screw up Shaman King and that Sonic X is respectable. Funky Cops might be decent. Can't believe they pulled that crappy WMAC Masters out to fill programming. What's with them pulling out crappy stuff like that? They should somehow find a way to show the old Turtles cartoon series, not that tripe they're calling a remake. What the hell is with Casey having anime hair and why couldn't he kept his Clint-Eastwood voice? Why is Baxter Stockman so confident instead of being the toe-licking lackey that I know and love?
On a complete lark, I decided to watch some episodes of the old Nancy Drew series and despite myself I liked it. Kind of sad when stuff from before I was born and mediocre stuff at that is better than most of what's on network television now.
Last movie I saw was X-Men 2: United. That was tight and had everything a X-Men fanboy like me could want.
I've seen the previews for The Rundown and Peter Pan at work constantly. I think I might actually check out The Rundown. I'm not expecting a magnum opus, but I think The Rock is decent as an actor and he's got a good cast around him (Rosario Dawson, Seann William Scott, and Christopher Walken).
Live action Eva movie? No way in hell they can compress the entire series in 3 hours. They have to do it like a trilogy, or at least 2 movies. They better get the casting right or I'm going to have to tap the keg of whoop ass on someone.
Hikaru Utada is a goddess and I can't wait until her US album drops.
Popular music today makes me sick, especially rap. It's not rap anymore, it's eight people yelling out "YEAH, YEAH!" behind a beat and talking about their money, whores, and blunts. 50 Cent and Eminem especially can jump off a cliff.
I hate when I have writer's block. It's almost like you're never going to write anything again, especially when you have ideas in your heads waiting to get out.
On that happy note, I bid you adieu.
