JOURNAL: MishaGirl (Summer Bradshaw)

  • An updateage and hardware problems.... 2010-03-05 13:44:39 So around christmas Sheila, Kate and I had a little AMV contest of our own in which we had to make like 5 different AMVs.

There had been a song exchange challenge before hand where I got 'Ahab the Arab' from sheila (the devil) and while I think it is possible to make one with One Piece alabaster footage I never completed it in time so that was going to be one of the entries into this contest....

    Then my computer broke.

Sheila let me enter 5 of my older videos instead. We had a bunch of friends over and they judged/voted. I ended up winning two awards, Comedy for 'Free hokage Report' and fun/upbeat/other for "yuri and the magical land of dragons". I think I deserved comedy but I really liked Sheilas One Piece fun/upbeat/other video more than mine.

    Oh well.

The challenge kinda burned us out so even though it was time to really crank on our Anime Boston AMV entries we dragged our feet a bit. I was working on a Skip Beat video for potential entry...and about to start this GTO one when my external hard drive died.

    WTF.

    This happened last year too!!!

    WHATEVER.

I ended up submitting my 'Doing it like the discovery channel' and "Gene Grapher' vids into the Fun/upbeat/other category. I figure at the very least I could judge/witness audience reaction during the overflow.

I SO want to see audience reaction to 'doing it like the discovery channel vid'. Especially since I missed the premiere at CTCon last year in order to go to a wedding.

Considering going to the AMV dinner at Anime Boston. I want to go but A. I'm a little nervous and B. Out of the four of us only two of us AMV seriously and I'm not sure the other two would appreciate us ditching them or coming with. Hmmm.

Anywhoo...new hard drive will be bought next week and more videos will be begun for CTcon and Portcon. Hopefully.
  • Conclusion + 3 more to boot! 2009-10-21 15:02:35 So Attagirljrs gawl/speed grapher was all kinds of epic and used a lot of over laid effects....her concept was more abstract so one or two people prefered my more simple minute video to her OMG epic and longer one. Weird. (Don't forget to check hers out

Regardless...I was super impressed so I called it her win.

The fact that a few people liked mine at all was more than enough for me to be pleased with my result. Her effort was huge and it totally showed where as I kinda slacked off at the end (hacking off audio, not getting picky about lip sync).

The star rating of my vid is over 3 and that is sooo awesome.

Okay so that challenge is over.

Since then there has been 3 challenges.

    WHA?! *head whips aground*

No no...they aren't done yet or anything. Here's how it went.

Our friend Kate (I believe I mentioned her before...a rookie to this fine craft) threw down a one week challenge.

Challenge one: The 2nd Cardcapter Sakura movie, over 2 mins, with a romance theme.

REJECTED! No sorry, the challenge still went on with Attagirljr participating and one of Kates coworkers trying it as well, but to me that is just too limiting. With such little footage it seems to me that all the videos are going to have the exact same footage. Anyway...for whatever reason I had no interest.

Next Attagirl junior and I threw tons of shows and themes in a hat and pulled out 4.

Challange two: You have 3 choices. trigun vid with theme of comedy. Kodocha vid with theme of EMO. OR use both and follow both themes. Audio must be to stand up comedy.

This intrigued me...and I am going to choose a pretty obvious idea and short vid concept to Trigun. I got my audio but that is all I have done so far. Deadline Nov. 5th.

While that is going on the Card capter sakura movie challenge is ending tomorrowish (the deadline keeps getting moved) and the next challenge for everyone had been decided that we each choose a piece of audio or song and we have to pick names out of a hat to see what audio we use. That challenge sounds AWESOME! So I am needing to choose a song by Saturday night.

    HEE!!

I am torn since I want to choose a song that Kate can sink her teeth into and yet someone more advanced (attagirljr) is still challenged by. HMMMM!!!

  • A fresh new challenge between Attagirljr and Myself shall come to ahead tonight 2009-10-10 12:24:00 About a week ago I was talking to Attagirljr and catching up. Looks like the last month or so we have been doing the fanfiction thing. Her reading Smallville and Kyo Kara Maoh and me writing One Piece stuff.

I had been studing awfully hard for the National Massage and Body work test and when it was over visited the boyfriend an awful lot. Now that it was over...relaxing with fanfic was so very nice.

She lamented how fun the AMV challenges with me were and after thinking about it I said I'd be willing to do a challenge. A week long one though. No under 12 hour stress bombs.

We decided the challange was to have a theme, which Attagirl chose.

    Theme: Crossover

We were to each chose a source of footage and then we would both have to intergrate BOTH sets of footage.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if she had been thinking something ala Tainted Donuts.

Anywho we both revealed our picks within seconds of eachother.

    -Speed Grapher (Me)
    -Generatot Gawl (her)

The due date is tonight. I have about 20 seconds to finish up when I get home from work and I'll be ready to export.

I must say a lot of random stuff worked out for me on this challenge, like clips I chose and dropped in worked so well with the beat it required very little tinkering.

She sent me an email thursday morning saying she was almost done and that she was doing a 5 min video. I must say I am a wee bit jelous at her ability to take such long audio sources and make videos so fast...but at the same time I really like the kind of instant satisfaction of my more well crafted short ones too.

Not sure how we are judging this or who is...but I do kinda like mine this time. If only for the timing of one scene.

Be on the look out for the upload.
  • Items of note 2009-09-11 22:18:17 First! My "Doing it like the Discovery" vid went on to WIN best in the Fun, Upbeat, Other Category and was runner up for best in Show. I am so thrilled and honored and happy I made a video so many people liked enough to submit it toward winning! Thanks to all those who voted!

Second! I have a new video up that I did totally for fun. I am a Yaoi fangirl and my slash of choice is Zoro/Sanji from One Piece. I have been meaning to do an epic AMV with them but not yet.

Zoros Chemistry comes from that Chemistry.com advertisement that has a guy ruffling through a Porn mag and confirming his gayness. It was the quickest videos I have done and my first time over laying audio.

I posted the vid on the Livejournal communities I thought appropriate and my veiws on youtube grew incredibly fast and I even learned someone posted and translated my vid into Italian on a Italian fan site. What an honor!

I have a big massage test I need to study for the rest of the week/month and some promised fanfic owed too...so I should be resuming AMVing in October. I am thinking Vampire Knight potentially.
  • I'M IN!!! 2009-07-22 23:52:32 My "Doing it like the Discovery Channel" Video made it to the AMV CTCon finals after all!

    YAY! YAY! YAY!
