Busy Busy
2001-10-30 11:32:34
Ah, I finally have some time to sit down and do a proper post here, now that my latest big exam is out of the way and I'm not working on anything of note or import.
Not to complain (really, I'm not complaining), but I'm a little bit in dispair that I have only had 2 comments on my Lain video (but 125 or so downloads), one of which is by a friend of mine. It's no big deal, but I'd just like to know if there's anything I did in it that doesn't quite work. At this point, I've seen it so many times that even the tiniest little thing sticks out, and I really can't tell what's good and what isn't. It's probably because my friend's server was going icky slow (because the fool set his subnet to 255.0.0.0 instead of the assigned 255.255.255.128 like it's SUPPOSED to be), and it took people a damn long time to download. It's possible some people gave up. ^_^;; In any case, that's fixed now. Unfortunately AFTER that first two days when a vid is high on the New list. Oh well.
I'm thinking about going back and fixing all those little things with my Lain vid that didn't quite sit with me. When I have time, of course. Probably this weekend. I'd like to get ahold of discs 3 and 4 to see if there's anything on those that I can use (I would only need about 6 seconds of footage max). It really amazed me when I managed to do the entire thing with just the first two DVDs and not have any source problems. All the 'normal' Lain stuff is on those first two discs.
I was having a really shitty time last week, but after 24 hours of nothing but video editing followed by two viewings of Episode I, my mind is cleared and I feel much better. A pity I don't have anything of interest to do for Halloween. I need a girlfriend or something. :P
Hrm. I have 4 dollars or so in my wallet. It's my entire savings at the moment, until I can actually find a bank to cash my work-study checks. Another 3 weeks or so and I may even be able to afford the Pioneer 606D.
Speaking of Pioneer, who else prefers their old logo? I always loved that thing. Made a capture of it, even. I suppose it's a nostalgia thing, but there's nothing quite like putting in a tape or DVD and that super-cool Pioneer logo coming up just before you jump into whatever anime you're watching. Ah well. Times change. Like ADV. They used to not suck. I think...
I need more anime... I think I'll order some fansubs when I have money to do so.
It incredible to me that so many people are interested in reading all about others' lives. Of course, I do it too.
*shrug*

It Is Done

Just wasted several hours dinking with getting my
damn Lain video uploaded. Anyway, if you care,
go download it. Comment on it. Rate it. Give
me feedback!
I have nothing more to say, I'm tired.

New AMV finished...
2001-10-28 06:31:08
Around 6 hours ago (midnight, mountain time) I finished up my
latest AMV, after 24 pure hours of editing. I am quite
pleased with the results. I am currently re-rendering
at 640x480 into Indeo 5.1 (for quality's sake), and after that is
done (i.e. when I wake up from sleeping), I will re-render
again into 320x240 Divx for upload.
I sleep now.

The World Is My Playground Yet I Am a Swing
2001-10-25 11:46:37
Stuff happening today. I'm finally getting in the radeon, so I'll finally be able to get back to AMV creations, thank god. I plan on starting and finishing my next video by saturday night at the latest. So quickly because it happens to use a Beatles song and I'm a little worried Kusoyaro may have a similar idea, what with the whole Beatles thing he's going on right now. ^_^ So I'll pump that one out quick-like and see what happens.
I'm also dealing with some personal issues, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to care to read about those, so I shall spare you that.
Hrm. Brain muddled today. I imagine this is kinda what the Gumbys felt like. "Myh BWRAIN 'Erts..." (if you don't get it, go watch all of Flying Circus)
Some good mindless AMV creation is just what I need right now.
For some reason the Pres. of the USA's song "Froggy" just entered my mind. I always liked that song. "His brain explodes his eyes implode his tiny heart goes puny-pop and his shiny legs refuse to hop and he floats on down..."
One of my fav Pres. songs. Very dark, very fun. ^_^
Yes I know I'm rambling.
I'll stop now.

Adding an Entry for no other reason than to Add and Entry
2001-10-23 13:03:57
Because I'm bored. I just now took a glance at the forums... and got
scared and remembered why I'd never delved into that before. Too many people. I have enough of a time with the Tenchi Muyo! ML to deal with
yet another hideously large messaging atmosphere. Ma, ika.
One of the biggest things I've had on my mind of late is the problem
of originality in AMVs. It's my greatest fear that I'll toil away at a
video, then when I'm ready to release it... damn, someone else just
did the same thing. Or that someone will get to it before I do, or
whatever. It's kinda like what happened at AX this last year; three
Lost in Space vids were submitted, and all three made it to the
final 30. Given, they were good, especially Maboroshi's. But when
you're the third video in a series to use the same loud song, there's
to be a loss of effect.
On the other hand, if it's good, then it's good. Hopefully people
will see it that way. For instance, a while back I had aquired the
Mononoke-hime video set to Mummer's Dance. It's pretty nice, has
a good feel. Then at AX we have Memories Dance. At first I was
thinking "great, another Miyazaki Mummer's Dance vid," but by the
end I was almost in tears. 'Can't really complain when the song
goes so damn well with his work.
So I guess my point is that I'm worried largely about originality and
my own talent, if it even exists. If it's not altogether original,
it has to be really damn good to stand out. Perhaps it's just my
competetive nature pointing out here. I don't know.
And of course, there's always the problem of a good song carrying a
mediocre video, which is another of my fears. If the music is really
great, then it can make up for the video such that one might not work
so hard on the really creative aspects. On the other hand, bias towards
a song could bring a great video down in some people's eyes. An example
I can think of is Maboroshi's "Fly" video. I adore it. I can't stand
Celine Dion, but I love that video. My friend, however, did not like the
music at all, and so he doesn't really care for the video. Of course,
one could argue that an AMV from a music video isn't very creative, but
BAH. I guess I just have a thing for Nausicaa with angel wings.
In any case, one of many thoughts that enters my mind while working on
a vid is that the majority of the coolness comes from the song, not
from the editing of the video.
Maybe I should just focus on making the video instead of fretting
over whether it will be good or not. That old adage, ya know. Practice.
I'm really hoping to submit a vid to the next big con. Last year I missed
the deadlines for Project A-Kon (my hometown con) and AX by a day. Didn't
have any work to submit to other cons, because I was dealing with a lack
of ideas. Now I have ideas but no time, but by GOD I will have something
cool ready to put into AX + A-Kon and any of the other big ones in the
coming year. Oh well.
I'm gonna stop writing now, before these stupid macs crash again and I
lose all of this.
