JOURNAL: Spyral (Spyral Rainboe)

  • Been gone a while. 2002-09-30 02:11:49 Haven't been around the AMV.org community much lately. Not being able to go to AWA after planning it for weeks was a real bummer. So I've been busying myself with school and video games. Got a good deal on Okage at Fry's Electronics and played that last week, and yesterday Gina was over and we went out and bought Kingdom Hearts because one of her friends had been spoiling it for her all week. So we played it and found out that it's worth all the hype about it. Well, mostly.

At any rate, congrats to all those who won the AWA Pro awards. They were all great vids.

Might have Juicy! up online sometime this week, we have to put a suitable intro on it first. Hope we get some reviews from people who saw it or judged it. It was nominated for three categories, so it seems to have been a favorite.

Hopefully I'll be around a little more often and yes, I'll get to the reviews I've promised some of you.... hopefully. ;)

  • Ants and Anniversaries 2002-08-12 17:47:50 The ants were back.

I saw one on Thursday night and didn't think much of it, it probably had come in on my shoe - one had bitten me earlier in the week. Grr. Friday was a different story. I gathered up the laundry and put it in the washer and saw another ant on the machine. No more were outside. Back inside, however, there were some trails in the hallway and in the guest bathroom. Tracking them led me to the master bedroom's bathroom, and they were swarming in there. Most were crawling into the shower from a crack under the wall, probably looking for water.

Sadly, I had battled with ants for weeks last summer. That was the worst - they were going from the kitchen (from another crack under the wall, this apartment has bad seals) through the living room and down the hallway into the two bathrooms. That time I tried all sorts of "natural" and non-killing measures to get rid of them. Mopping the floors, letting no crumb settle on any surface, using cinnamon as a deterrant. All that did was make the ants look in other places for food, and the cinnamon just irritated them so that they were more likely to bite.

So after a few weeks last time of trying to live with Nature's creatures invading my home, I couldn't stand it anymore and bought some poisoned bait traps. I refuse to get sprays. In a few days, the ants were gone. And they've been gone until Thursday. So I decided it was in everyone's best interest to get the traps early. I talked to the ants, told them that it was poison and they needed to get out of my house before their own greed led to their destruction, just like with humans.

    They're gone now.

In other news on Saturday we went to Kazz's grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. We were late, there was an accident on one of the freeways leading to the highway out of town so we lost an hour being stuck and then trying to find another route. We snuck into the church ceremony an hour late but still in time to see them renew their vows and then some folks participated in the ritual cannibalism and then it was off to the party a few blocks away. Gotta love Flagstaff, it's such a small town.

It was at the Elk's Lodge and it was all spruced up with streamers and ballons. Minus the elk heads on the wall, it was a nice place for 200 people. So we talked to a lot of Kazz's relatives and friends of the family, me not being able to remember names or faces I had to just smile and nod at everyone and try to come up with some sort of chit-chat appropriate for the occaision, which is very hard and I'm not a huge fan of family gatherings. His grandparents are really great so I'm glad I went.

The vegetarian meal consisted of the roast beef dinner but replacing the meat with an under-cooked rice pilaf and adding more sauted mushy veggies. I've had worse. It wasn't so bad, there was salad and brownies also. They showed a video presentation of pics and video of his grandparents and their life together. It was really sweet. Then there was dancing to music that I wasn't fond of so I didn't participate. Gotta have the right kinda music in order for me to go and make a fool of myself in front of a crowd.

All in all it was fun, I guess, for that sorta thing. The next day there was a lunch with a few of the family and friends still hanging around and Kazz and I hung out with them a little, although my allergies were in full swing and Kazz was tired and, of course, dehydrated because he doesn't drink water. Left around 2pm and got home around 5, had to stop and pick up a present for me mum, it was her birthday yesterday and I needed to hop on over there for dinner and cake. Mmm, cake. My mom got a nice outfit, some collectable dolls, a trip to see Cher with my aunt and cousin, and a bath pillow and soaps (from me!). She's going to see Cher tonite, luckily my aunt didn't get me a ticket so I told her not to feel bad about it... I don't really want to go see Cher. But she's my cousin's favorite singer. So they can go have fun tonite.

Two weeks until school starts! I need to get my books and parking pass and pay off my credit card and other things. Phew. But at least I'm getting the spare bedroom cleaned out so it will be a comfy place to study. Wee!
  • Sunday Sluggish Sunday 2002-08-04 17:11:34 Well, I'm not in Productive Mode at all today. But I am awake earlier than I expected to be. Now to actually go do stuff.

We saw Road to Perdition last nite, it was really good. Then we came home and watched the Cowboy Bebop movie. THAT was great! It makes so much of the other stuff out there look mediocre by comparison. I want more stuff like Bebop, NTHT, Crest of Stars and Niea_7...

I should really watch and review those vids from AX....

The last deadline of the year (hopefully) is the AWA Exposition in September. We've got two great ideas, but will probably only get one finished. We submitted Juicy! and Mea Culpa to Pro... we'll see how that goes.

I'm getting some good financial aid $$ when school starts. Yippee! That will pay for the AWA trip and getting the HD replaced with our other vids on them. Can't forget to do that. The Fushigi Yuugi video would have been great for Shoujo-con... but then there's next year. We'll have it up for download before that, 'tho. It sucks not to have some of our better videos up for the general public. Our first three are not our best. Still love them. We just need to be patient, I guess. Not my best talent. ;)

Going to Flagstaff next weekend for Kazz's grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. Dunno if we'll have time to get together to work on our videos or watch Eva. Sunday is a possibility, but we'll prolly be tired from getting up early and driving back home.

There's nothing much worth note. Forums are kinda dead and the same questions keep getting resurrected with same conclusions. Ah well, at least there's Neopets. :)

  • Tick tick tick 2002-08-01 20:51:22 Not a bomb or a bug, but Time is ticking away...

Gotta get the two vids, "Juicy" and "Mea Culpa" uploaded tonite.

I'm so out of touch with the dinosaur that is VHS tapes that I went to three stores before I figured out that these specially labelled "6 hour" and "8 hour" tapes were still the normal 2 hour dealies. So I got the special T-120 things and sent them off to AWA so we can judge our competition. Sounds like fun, but that was like $20+ of tapes and packaging. Whew, luckily my mom, the Ebay Queen, paid for it.

She doesn't want to sell my Cabbage Patch Kids. She's more attached to them than I am. Heck, they've been around longer than a lot of the people on the .org! That makes me feel really really old.

Pass the chocolate. Might as well be old and fat.
  • Blah blah blah stuff. 2002-07-27 02:30:28 One of my birds hung himself today. One-legged Unkie was picking up pieces of straw for his industrious nest-building and apparently got stuck. Now the incestuous pair will have to raise their retarded mutant babies by themselves. :(

Lots of strange family stuff going on that I don't really want to talk about but is nevertheless putting the damper on the day.

Along with my car having a burnt out headlight, bad tires and a cracked windshield.

I got the new videos to list the anime and music, but the LINKS option was still greyed out and I'm too annoyed to mess with it again since it will probably screw it up like it did the 20 other times I tried to get it right.

Tomorrow we get to work on videos for AWA... last weekend until the Professional deadline.

I need to catch up with some buddies' journal entries... post more whenever.
