Nothin' Much...
2002-05-31 02:36:02
No word on what it's going to cost to get the data off the HD. Hopefully, it's possible to do. Then it's just a matter of when, depending on cost.
AX will still be a possibility if we don't pay for it sooner (rather than later), but that means that only our Gasaraki (maybe) video and possibly the super secret hush hush comedy one if we bust our butts to get that one done. But the Fushigi Yuugi video was going SO WELL. So fricken well. 2/3 done, full of beautiful melodrama and girlish feelings. *sigh*
Kazz might reluctantly submit our Gasaraki vid to AX. It just needed a tinge more work. Good enough for the one chance of the year to see it at a con, anyways. But sadly, the FY vid for Shoujo Con would take a miracle. Sorry Gina! :( I really wish this hadn't happened. It was just a perfect idea for an entry. Please, please let the miracle happen!!!
Everyone, your mantra forever will be:
"Every hard drive will fail, it's just a matter of WHEN."
Chant it always, and maybe yer videos will be saved. Learn from the mistakes of others like ourselves. The possibility of losing stuff you've spent so much time on... not to mention the emotional attachments we all have to our creations..... it's just something that will always be there unless you obsessively back up your work.
To end on a happier, yet unrelated note, I've finished the first Otherland novel (again) and am 1/3 of the way through the second. Books: a good way to drown my sorrows....

OMFG
2002-05-28 19:48:29
It's a true nightmare.
We worked ALL weekend on our video. We got about 2/3 of it finished, when all of a sudden, the hard drive started making a noise like a buzz-saw. Quickly we rebooted, but it still made the sound. After fiddling with stuff and blowing out a lot of linty dust, we concluded that it was the hard drive and not the fan or any other less insidious problems.
This is the same model of HD that we had replaced after a few months of use last September. Same noise, too. Live and learn.
If it was just game data and porn, I'd say fuck it and just get it replaced - it's still under manufacturer warranty. But it has 3 of our unfinished videos on it. At *least* 200 hours worth of work total. It's irreplacable in that sense. And nobody wants to start over...
We can be comforted that it will only cost up to $5000 to retrieve the data.
I think this could mean no AX this year unless we get a free room. It can also mean no ANYTHING for a long time - it's definitely going to max out my credit cards.
I'd be a lot more shaken up, I guess, if I wasn't a constant worry-wort and always expect something like this to happen. Dooooomed.... we're all doooomed.....

I hope you regret the curse you put on Kazz.

The PAIN
2002-05-21 15:35:27
I had to goto the dentist yesterday to get my teeth drilled. It HURT. It took about an hour and half for my back teeth to get numb, and even then there was some pain. Maybe long tooth roots? Dunno. I was a walking numb head for the next few hours.
Got to watch a few good movies on Sunday night. A friend gets free rentals at the vid store she works at, and we watched "M", "Vanilla Sky" and "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" All were pretty good. I was very disturbed by a cow getting shot and run over in "Brother". :|
Today I'm going to re-read Tad William's "Otherland: City of Golden Shadow". I read it back in 1997, and finished the second volume sometime later, but school struck and I never got to read the others. (This was before the paperback was out and at this point in time I couldn't afford hardcovers. Now I don't care and just buy the books in both hardcover and paperback) I have all the books now and want to start afresh. I've been trying to re-read CoGS for about a year and a half but things kept getting in the way. I also got hooked on another series, George R R Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. It's REALLY spectacular. I'm still a huge Tad Williams fan, but if anyone were to... maybe... be better than him it would be GRRM. Martin has excellent character development. Williams has great concepts and descriptions. Too hard to choose, they are BOTH my top fav authors.
So I advise all of you to step away from your computers and read some good books. That is all.

Awake and Delirous
2002-05-19 07:25:22
We've been working on our video since around 4pm; it's now about 4:30am. It's taking forever to grab the clips, but we've got most of the vid planned out. Once we plop in this footage and look at it, we're going to call it quits for the night. Finish it up next weekend... we'd better, the deadline for Shoujo Con is June 1st.
Silvercat wants everyone to know she's really tired, with a long drive home, and that Kazz and I are evil for making her stay.
"Yeah... it's just crashing...." <_< >_>
"I don't know why it's doing that...." <_< >_>
Yep. It's our evil plot.
Maybe we'll keep her here until 5am...
Muahahahahah.

Cleaning Day
2002-05-17 15:02:47
Today, I will clean the kitchen!!! *battlecry*
I got new sponges yesterday, isn't that terribly exciting? Armed with new cleaning supplies, I will conquer all.
I am very upset that I left my butter over at my family's house. : Mac'n'cheese last night had to be made with milk and oil. ;( It actually didn't turn out that bad, a little bit too watery and shiney. Like those really sucky, fake, individually-wrapped cheese slices. I much prefer the real deal.
It's hot. But what do you expect from Arizona? Next week I get to paint the trunks of our citrus trees white to keep them from sunburning. For some reason the name "Corky Romano" (from the movie I haven't seen and not sure I want to) keeps popping into my head. Everything is now "Corky Romano". At least it's better than having that damned Sheryl Crow song stuck in my head. But only marginally.
