JOURNAL: iserlohn

  • Oooh the colours... 2002-11-20 21:36:47 To those who count themselves amongst my loyal readers, I feel as though I owe you an explanation as to why things have been so quiet around here lately.

When I last posted, I felt the need to take some time off from talking to a handful of people in the community. For various reasons these were folks who I needed to figure out where I stood with them and where I wanted them to stand with me. I did figure this out to an extent, and some peoples' ranks in my books have changed for the better, others for the worse, but most stay the same.

After those 5 or so days I still hadn't updated. Why? Stress, being busy, laziness, and all those things. My workload from classes has at least doubled over the last week, serving as a not-so-gentle reminder that the end of the semester is indeed only a month away, that it's 22 days until I retake my GRE, and that I *DO* need to work on a number of papers, presentations, and reading assignments. It's also a reminder that the Katsucon deadline is a month away, and with a certain british editor and fansubber's package not coming through I had to work up a new idea that could be finished to my liking by the time of the con. It is currently about 1/5 finished, to the point where I can put it on hold for a couple days to focus on studying for my German exam on Friday which I desperately need to get a good grade on. My German PRESENTATION is next Wednesday, and that's going semi-well. Getting the notes and the video together shouldn't be too hard, we just have to break up what we're doing/saying and make sure that we'll be at time (15-20 min). Oyeah, I failed my last quiz.

224 is going weirdly. Lectures are absolutely fascinating as we approach the period which enthralls me and a new character to idolize comes on the scene: Frederick the Great. Damn this man kicked a lot of ass. A hero for all who study history. The readings, though, are consistantly holding my attention less and less to the point where I honestly can not recall the important themes of the book for this week. I know that Howard led the Maryland continental armies and that Morgan and Tarleton were the major commanders at Cowpens, but I don't have a firm grasp on the battle and what happened, which is oddly the opposite effect of how I'm used to reading. Ah well, as long as I get a good grade on my quiz...

Brit History...is. We're up to Thatcher now and you can tell that the professor hates her with a passion. The lectures are actually...well...kinda interesting now.

50's is going well, just have to do my paper.

ROTC was a nightmare last week. We were split into groups of 10 or so and everyone had to work on a segment of something for presentations. My group went last Thursday and I foolishly volunteered to be group leader. This meant getting powerpoint slides and outlines from 9 other people and compiling it into one presentation. Some contributions included someone sending me 25 slides for a 3-4 minute segment and two people doing the same subsection, sending me frantically searching for some information on US involvements in Africa at 10:30PM the night before the assignment was due. Got it all done, gave the presentation, still no grade.

In the music front, I've been listening to Synaesthetic a lot. I love this track, it's brilliant. This is about all I wanted to say, really. Those who know what I'm doing for KatsuAMV are not allowed to tell, so this one really should be a surprise for many.

And I'm still not moving to LJ.
  • Dark Globe 2002-11-10 21:03:53 Oh where are you now?
Pussywillow that smiled on my sleeve
When I was alone, you promised a stone from your heart
    My head kissed the ground,
I was half the way down, treading the sand
Please... please lift a hand, I'm only a person
Whose armbands beat on his hands hang tall

Won't you miss me? Why don't you miss me at all?

My head touched the ground, I was half the way down,
    Strumming the sand
Please lift a hand, I'm only a person
With eskimo chain, you tattered my brain all the way

Won't you miss me? Why don't you miss me at all?

  • Feedback... 2002-11-10 11:20:28 Weird. Suck, actually. I got a review about a week ago for Sugar, which was cool, except that it had been 5 months since my last review prior...and I still haven't gotten one on Haru to Ashura. Ah well.
  • Alive... 2002-11-09 13:13:58 I know that I haven't written here for a while. It's not that I died or got ill or moved to livejournal or anything, I just haven't felt like posting anything here...and to be honest, I still don't. So with this post all I'm going to say is that due to unforseen circumstances, I'm working on a backup plan for a Katsucon video, and that grad school apps aren't done and I'm on track with my regular homework.
  • Jenny....I feel old... 2002-11-04 21:21:07 I hate this chair. I swear that it is the reason why my back's been hurting the last few days. I really need to drag myself over to Terrapin Trader on Wednesday and see what I can pick up in terms of furniture that reclines and has arms and wheels.

I haven't worked on my Katsucon video in about 4 days. Still missing some vital source, and about 26.1GB of my 60GB drive is being taken up with DVD rips for Nightowl. With everything combined, I've got 8.18GB free, which is enough that I can work, but not comfortably, especially as I'm still transferring stuff to VCD. So it goes, hopefully it'll get done for deadline...

Also, started my grad school applications. Doing them online is definately easier if not a bit more annoying due to network issues. So it goes.
