  • Sleep dammit! 2002-10-10 03:20:00 There are times when life just isn't fair. Tonight is one of them.

Rules meeting was supposed to start at 10. Between Yasha running off to study for an exam (understandable except we notified him of this over a week ago) and Kenny having to make rounds (also understandable but he got on them late), the meeting didn't even start until almost midnight. It was done around 1:30ish, then I took a shower and got into bed to toss and turn for a bit.

At 2:15 I hear knocking on my door. It's Kenny telling me that I have to get out of the building and over to Ritchie Coliseum (an indoor basketball/volleyball court) within 15 minutes. As I throw jeans and socks and shoes on and grab some manga, and head out the door, I see that the entire section of apartments is being cordoned off and everyone evacuated by police lines.

We stay at Ritchie until 4:15. Someone in a nearby building was playing with amateur explosive chemistry and the police were called in to take whatever it was, detonate it safely, and probably arrest the guy who made it.

I'm still awake though. I'm not too tired. That being said, my alarm is set for 11. I'm ditching Brit History, will copy notes from someone, and will just show up at 224 still fairly out of it since sleeping until 11 will, at this point in time, probably net me six hours of sleep at the most. And, just to top it off, Vic arrives tomorrow night and it's an early wakeup Friday for the long weekend of the con. Fuck.

    Ich will schlafen.
  • 2 days to go... 2002-10-08 22:45:10 It's countdown time for the con and everything is coming down to the wire. German quiz tomorrow right after class, I am definately not prepared, but getting a 50 on the quiz is better than getting a 0. I'm confident on maybe half of it, so we'll have to see overall. Got no reading done today, will do it tomorrow. Will also scan some more pictures, look into american studies grade, and talk to Sumida about where the hell to apply to Grad school. Then 1950's seminar and coming home to bake and clean and do prep and stuff.

3 eps left of Aquarian Age. WATCH THIS SHOW. I want the music so bad, but my usual MP3 source is still having connection problems, and no one online seems to have it. Buying the music would be an expensive expenditure - there's a shitload of it, 2 OSTs, 5 character singles, and singles for OP/ED. Ouch.

New keyboard came yesterday, getting very used to it. It'll be fun to bring this weekend.

Dresden flood pictures are now on the FTP, as are zips of the foldes (except for the flood...).
  • For those who are interested... 2002-10-08 14:59:07 ftp://euro:fotos@iserlohn.student.umd.edu:314

Highlights from 2 of the 10 or so rolls of pictures I took overseas. Due to time restrictions I don't feel like scanning everything, so you guys just get the best of what's there. Sorry. Now enjoy!
  • Listen to my song! 2002-10-07 15:19:57 It's Monday once again.

German was OK today, a grammar day. I'm not a big fan of grammar days, usually because we don't do anything interesting. We just sit there and do exercises the whole hour. It's importnat, but not fun. The teacher doesn't seem to like my weekly sentences either. I think she's expecting us to take them all out of the assigned readings, but I find myself taking about half from the assignments and half from whatever manga I'm reading that week (this week's list will probably come partly from Berserk - that should be interesting to say the least.) It's also hard to take some of these things out of context.

Reading is...moving along. I'm not going to do well on this week's Sumida quiz, sped read the chapters for this week and will do the same for the first chapter of next week's reading. Brit History reading is..dull. Very dull. ROTC I'm on target for AFAIK, and 1950's doesn't have reading for at least another week, and it's all documents so it's quick reading.

Just have to do all this German. Barb is kind of pissing me off again. She's been in my classes since 101 (well, sort of. She wasn't in my 102 or 201 but we had the same teacher and kept in touch). She's nice and all, but she has the annoying habit of not being able to understand the homework assignments and not bothering to translate them (the instructions). Therefore she pesters me every fucking night about what we're supposed to do for the assignment. She gets better grades than I do, too. Suck.

4 episodes left on Aquarian Age. This show is kicking it into high gear and I'm loving it. It's weird like Eva, has a groovy soundtrack, and the plot is actually entertaining and worth paying attention to. It's definately at the "worth a rental, possibly a used purchase" level on the anime value scale. Speaking of anime to pick up, I'm hoping to get the next 2 volumes of Berserk for $20 at the con. Maybe I'll start getting Blue Gender soon as well. I've got the first Japanese LD but haven't seen past episode 6 ever, and since vol. 7 is now out it's a good time to start getting the series.

Once again, a reminder to all: UPS sucks. Majorly. It's 4:30 on a Monday (not even a holiday Monday), and the tracking number for my new keyboard doesn't even show it as leaving the distribution center yet. WTF?! Lazyasses...watch it show up at 9PM or something stupid.

Tonight for dinner is going to be Red Beans and Rice. It's (mostly) healthy, tastes good, is filling, and is highly fragrant which has the added advantage of pissing the hell out of Yasha. Oh, it usually lasts me 2 days when I make it too.

I think I'm going to end up making cookies for the con. I haven't done that since Otakon 2001 but it's a nice gesture to have sugar on hand, especially when panelling all day Saturday. Will probably bring the makeshift cookie jar (a scorched up pot) as well and just leave it on the table.

On hold with OIT now. I don't trust them to call me back, and I want to know where I can find a scanner that's open to the student body to use. Got some cool pics from overseas that I'd like to put online and don't want to have to shell out for a SCSI unit of my own. This shouldn't even be hard. It's just going to be annoying to sit on hold.

The current AMV project is going sort of well. I really need a couple of fill tapes for source and well, when I get them is sort of out of my control, but I need to have this video done for Katsucon. Time ticks.
  • It's always something... 2002-10-06 00:38:37 Forgot two things.

1)I've started using ICQNotes again. The regular homework flow and everything else I'm working on has scattered my brain enough that I need something to keep track of it all, and a big yellow thing on the computer desktop is a good place to look.

2)Got the last roll of Germany pictures back. The final one before random camera fill was taken at the airport in München. The windows were really weird, but you can see that it was really just a gray, drizzly day. The day before was so sunny and perfect, walking around the Marienplatz, taking pictures, having an Almdudler (anyone know where to get this here?), cool people at the hostel (when they weren't throwing up). *sigh*

I don't think I've ever been this nostalgic about a trip somewhere. I want to go back.
