So forgetful...
2002-08-08 04:07:36
Please read the immediately following entry before this one. It is a new and current entry, but I forgot to add something to it...
I just realized that I forgot to add Lynn's second good point.
The second good point was that we wouldn't be feeling too sad to leave. It took us a week or two to get used to the routine, now we're all getting sick of it, and we'll be glad to have some daily variety and no more boring seminars, etc. I think she's absolutely right - I'm looking forward to getting away from some of the people and from some of the rut and routine. I'm definately looking forward to some variety in my breakfast, even if a croissant every morning is a luxury I don't get at home.
Everyone is ready to just go home or on their travels and start seeing people and such again. München and Rothenberg are going to be difficult because I'll be used to people - people I'm familiar with - and I won't be seeing them. Of course keeping up with Sandra's Saxon dialect in Dresden won't be so easy either, but there'll be PEOPLE - familiar people.
I also checked the train schedules last night. All trains from Dresden to Munich are ICE trains (express ones). The trip is about 5 hours from Dresden to Nuremberg, and then 1.5 hours to Munich from there. My plan is to hop the train to Nuremberg in the morning, stop and get lunch in Nuremberg, and then hop back on the train an hour later.
Davis from Albania is asking me how to send email to multiple addresses at once. The fact that this man is getting a degree in psychology is scaring the hell out of me. Of course, that is also accentuated by his semi-racist and anti-semetic views, as well as his "everyone has always and always will fuck over albania" attitue.
As stated at the top, read the entry below. It's part 1.

Come together, Just think of tomorrow!
2002-08-08 03:54:06
This has been a great morning for music. The full ELO "Time" album followed by some of my favorite anime tracks like the Hana Yori Dango opening, the Tylor TV themes, and currently the Rayearth Opening. It's a good mix of happy and semi-upbeat but not overkill hyper music...which is good as it's raining for the third day in a row.
I didn't study too much after I got back from the net last night. I did a little bit, translated an article we were supposed to know about Coffee in Vienna (though I shudder to think of what would happen if you went somewhere in the USA and asked for a "Großer Schwarzer" (lit. a big black, in coffee terms it means a hugeass cup of coffee made strong with no milk). Looked over a couple of the handouts again as well. I really, really hope that I don't fuck this exam up.
That said, I'm going to go over a couple things before Workshop. Workshop 1 today will be on subjunctive stuff so it'll be a nice review, and 2 is just a movie meaning I can go off to the corner and look over notes, etc. Then there's sport time to go over things as well.
Tomorrow better fucking be sunny. I want to take pictures from the lake and of Strobl. This will probably finish film roll 5 for those keeping track.
As always, my pictures have very few PEOPLE in them. I don't think I'll take many pictures tomorrow night of people, maybe a couple but that's it.
I also need to call the hostel tomorrow and let them know that I will be late getting there on Saturday. If the presentations end at noon and we get to the bus station by 1, the first bus to Salzburg will get us there at 3. Trains leave for München at the half, which means leave at 3:30 and arrive in the city at 6 - when I need to be at the Hostel by - then get my S-Bahn ticket and get to the hostel. The S-Bahn also doesn't run like Metrorail does, aka the trains run every 15-30 min. instead of every 6-15. I also have no idea how far off the hostel is from the Hbf. I should really look that up...
----
The computer room has been remarkably quiet this morning. Usually it's filled up by now, and the people who are in the class in the next room over are on break and filtering in being loud and trying to hop on a computer for a few minutes before they have to get back to their class. This is fine with me, as the current song is Anata no Ichiban Yo (I think that's the proper name...it's the song Ruri sings) from Nadesico. I really need to buy the imports of this show...I've had crappy realvideo fansubs from the beginning of when I collected anime and just can't buy the ADV version. It's got all the overlays from hell on it as well as the TV version episode 1. I don't care that it's the same animation in the TV and LD edition, the way it's paced and set up makes a big dramatic difference. I also ned to start buying Blue Gender and KareKano on DVD...the former I'm still holding out for a price break on, the latter I have no more excuse, really. I should just give in that the subs freeze a couple times and get over it.
Berserk vol. 2 comes before both of these though. It's also so damn tempting right now to make a bid on eBay - someone's got up a full set of Macross 7 LD's for only $150. Plus shipping from Peru. I can't afford it, but if someone would like to donate that set to an AMV creator for their 21st birthday (less than a month away), I wouldn't complain.
Shit, it really is less than a month, isn't it? I hate birthdays, I always get reminded of how little I've accomplished. I may have to see my mother on this one too. She makes a bigger deal out of it than I do. What's worst is that I couldn't even get a beer if we went out to dinner or something - not only would it be piss water but my driver's license is still screwed up.
Now is the time to send emails telling me where to go in Munich. The rules are that it has to be in the city proper and open Sundays or Mondays (Monday is the traditional closing day for museums. I'm looking forward to raiding a laundromat with it.)
Lynn actually brought up two good points last night as I was visiting her to borrow her scissors to do a good job bandaging my foot last night. The first was that we as americans wash and change our clothes a hell of a lot more than Europeans do. This is a very valid and accurate point. I'd be tempted to not bother washing my clothes in Munich except that 1)Most of what I wear ends up rather sweat covered and stinky. While this isn't too much of a problem in hostels (where everyone else is also sweat covered and stinky...as are the rooms), 2)I should be presentable when I get to Dresden. This means clean clothes. I'm debating wearing my Otakon shirt then (it'd be easy enough to find me that way), but part of me would rather save it for when in München so that I can wear it when I buy manga. On the other hand they already know that I'm an Ausländer with money...
"Follow Your Dream" just came up on Winamp. Great song. I need to buy Project A-Ko on DVD. Will probably get the box set even though I've never watched A-Ko 4 or Blue Side/Grey Side (and have no real desire to...) For those who don't know, A-Ko was the first anime I ever saw. And I think I just got a great AMV idea. Oh this could be vicious. So, so, so, so evil.
I could keep ranting and babbling, but I think you've gotten enough of that for now. Tomorrow will be a regular post and possibly an early one on Saturday. After that all internet goes into sporadic mode as I don't know when I can find (and afford) webcafes, but updates will come with them, especially as the prices are cheaper there (usually EUR2.50-3 for 30-60 minutes), and there's even a cafe where if you go during lunchtime and get a meal the surfing is free. Hey, it works for me.
Bis morgen!

Aw man....
2002-08-07 14:51:34
Alex (romania) just got on the next computer. He loked at me and said "You've gained weight since you've gotten here. Lucky. Can I have 10 of your kilos?"
If only it were that simple. I'm not surprised that I've gained weight. I'm not jogging or swimming every day, laziness saw to it a bit at first, and the foot and orders not to get it wet (that I violate only to take a shower every night) have taken care of the rest of the time. The fact that I've been eating three very solid meals and a chocolate bar every day haven't helped either...though I *am* making sure to keep up with my water.
It's still raining. It's been raining all day and now is no exception.
So right now I'm here filling my hour up before going back to the room to study more, but I wanted the music hour so I came for my signed up hour. Tonight's choice was the DDR megamix..well, most of it. To play the whole thing would take up more time than I have for it.
Have I really gained weight here? I look at my hands and I see the veins still...and my jeans don't feel tighter...even the ones I got washed...mebbe it really is my clothes that shrunk. Dammit, I've gotten vain.
German exam is tomorrow. Most of the grammar is really pretty easy. It's things like um...zu constructions (Ich fliege nach Österreich, um Deutsch zu lernen), both types of passive voice (Das Fenster ist geöffnet, Die Hausaufgaben wird von der Lehrerin Korregieren), Subjunctive basics (Ich hätte gerne Viel Geld., Wenn ich ein Millionär wäre, würde ich eine lange Reise haben), and things like that. The hardest part will be the story reconstruction - We'll get sentences out of order and we have to put them back together. This is hard with a vocabulary as small as mine and I don't think we get to use our dictionaries during the section.
Foot hurt a lot today. As soon as I get home I'm taking my shower and changing the bandage on it. Studying can wait for this to be over. I'm pretty awake and have half of a Milka bar on the desk to keep me up anyways...and a faucet which can keep me full of enough water that I have to keep going to the bathroom and staying awake. Add to this workshop in the morning (Yes, I am a sucker like Yang, yes I went) and Sport to study during and I think I'll be OK. I hope I'll be OK. Cheer me on everyone, I'm gonna need it.
And the next person to read the journal is 4100. Yay. Let's see if we can break 5000 before I get home.

Morning...
2002-08-07 03:16:20
Tried to help Lynn get a file off her mac onto the PC. Unfortunately the disc got messed up somehow and every file but the one she needed worked. She just ran in to try and see if I got it working, which I didn't...of course she had a backup on the hard drive and didn't tell me about it...
And I was severely panicking too - the computer had been locking up and I had to dig out a 10 Eurocent coin to unlock the battery just to make sure it powered down...and what genius at apple made the power on button the F12/Eject?
Ah well. She loaded the backup and will be presenting off her monitor. I'd rather present that way myself, but that's just me.
It's still raining. It was coming down in sheets last night, now it's just a steady stream. I think sport today will be watching Nadia and surfing. I'm online a lot lately, mostly because it's the only thing to do...well, actually I have to study today for my German final.
I also feel like Yang right now - I'm going to quit workshop 2, I'm going to quit workshop 2....and of course I'll end up going anyways.
This morning's music was a couple tracks from Hedwig and right now anime music...currently the Blue Gender ending. Now that the show is coming out at a decent rate I need to start getting the DVDs. Damn.

Allein....
2002-08-06 14:27:40
I've heard the German version of "Another Day" from RENT some 500 times and I *STILL* can't transcribe it on my own.
Right now in the computer of the computer room is perhaps not the happiest place that I can be, but it's the most convenient. It's the safest. It's insulated and thanks to a pair of headphones isolated. Tonight's music is tracks from RENT, TTB, Joseph, and, of course, Hedwig. I don't want to be near anyone here right now, but I also don't really want to be sitting in College Park either. Sadly enough I'm doing the same thing either way.
I'm still pulling hits, but not as many replies, be they in journal or by e- or forum mail as I was. I guess that four weeks of class reports get boring, even if they ARE from another country. That or no one cares anymore. Neither would surprise me.
Tonight is going to be an early turn in. It's been cloudy and rainy all day, and I just don't feel like staying up to do anything, even watching TV. Especially since there's a dance course (and I can't dance on this foot...) and people will be going in and out the whole time. I need to get Damir's DVD back to him...and Sabine's laptop.
Tomorrow...I don't want to think about tomorrow. I don't want to think about ditching workshop and tutorial (I ditched the latter tonight rather than deal with Vasyl and his winking, share the love bullshit.) and having to write excuse letters and all that. I just want to be bathed in music and a warm blanket and fade into nothingness. I want to do that until Saturday when I get to Munich. Then the touring can begin and the odd feeling that there should be more people around will set it. It's a bitch of a cycle.
I used this quote in an email to a friend of mine (which ironically included the URL to the journal), but I recall an issue of X-Factor (it's somewhere in the 90's when Madox was getting ready to die) and Quicksilver is sitting in a room playing with some clay. He keeps making models of all the teams that he had been with and is reflecting on things and comments that "no matter how many of these groups I find myself in, I can never become part of them." I think that's how I feel most of the time. Perhaps there's something to be said for being a loner. I wonder if Pietro and Logan ever had good drinking sessions...
Speaking of X-Men, I saw the sketches of Asamiya's designs. I think I'll pick up an issue just to see them in action, but overall...they're...odd. Nightcrawler looks a lot more brash than he used to, even in the physical demonification of the past couple redesigns. I wonder how the writing will be.
Reply time:
Kyburg: what's Heil's Armee? I should really know, shouldn't I? I hope Jim recovers well - read your LJ. You don't need a mental health day, you need a mental health lifetime. Maybe in the next one...
Gambitt: Berserk is awesome. If you were coming to AnimeUSA you could read my manga and have someone on hand to translate/explain...now to get you to watch One Piece. If you're still in NC, smack Nathan and remind him that people like email replies...
AD: You're just an editing machine...now get back to subbing Kodocha!
I think that's all for now...
