  • A couple fast replies (true post below) 2002-08-02 03:44:45 Kyburg - Thanks. I'm crazy enough right now to risk it with the doctor here. I already know what he'd say if it were a doctor back home - it's infected, take an antibiotic, try not to walk on it, and make an appointment to have the source cut off (the source being a nail getting ingrown). I'm just ticked that I had this done to the same damn nail LAST YEAR.

Gambitt - Lola Rennt is an awesome movie. We actually watched it here in two of my classes (regular German and then the supplemental workshop...) I need to get the DVD as well...and a copy of the soundtrack.

Netscape 6.3 is still downloading. It's at 53% with...ah shit, just got a network failure error. Crap, gotta wait until tomorrow and just use the cybercafe in the Mozartplatz.
  • Pain... 2002-08-02 03:08:48 It hurts to take a step. I think I'm dragging myself to the doctor in Strobl when I get done here (actually a bit after - I wouldn't be surprised if this guy lived in his office and I don't want to wake him up at 9am).

Played some Uno last night, which was fun, and started reading Foley is Good. This book kicks ass. I was up until 1:30 reading it, and am now 342 pages through a 544 page book. It will be finished by the end of the weekend, guaranteed.

It's funny. Netscape here can launch the AIM express software, but it's still got the port blocked so it did no good.

What pisses me off, though, is the fact that the computers here don't have new enough software to let me check my bank balance online, and when you pull cash here from an ATM you don't get a receipt. I know about how much money I should have, but no clue about an actual number. Shit. Netscape upgrading is going to take an hour as well. Dammit.

There hasn't been chocolate musli at breakfast for a week now. Sadness.
  • About that time... 2002-08-01 12:41:09 I know it's about 3/4 of the way in when I get the mandatory "you know everyone hates you and thinks you're a moron, even for an american" talk from someone that I can't stand. Yeah, this is a blast.

Dozing this afternoon was quite nice, as was going to the police station to get an interview for german class (no, I didn't get in trouble, it was an assignment.)

Of course, the fact that when the infected area on my left foot popped, it left a rather large hole that hasn't closed yet and is still living is sucking. It hurts to walk now, but going to the doctor is useless - the infected stuff will continue to drain, and all he'll tell me is not to walk on it until I get home and someone can operate on the nail to get it out since I can't get it on my own.

Nothing going on tonight, transcribed some hedwig lyrics to translate during tutorial.

Salzburg is confirmed for Saturday. Mebbe going to some castles will be a cheerup.
  • ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER, SPRICHST DU DA?? 2002-08-01 03:35:17 Ooooooh. When you caps lock on the German keyboard it caps locks EVERYTHING. How I wish that would work when I needed to do stars and fun stuff on the keyboard back home.

Yesterday morning was a dead time, went to workshop, it was OK and all, told the teacher I wanted to drop workshop 2 as I couldn't keep up with the conversation level and she asked me to hang on for a couple days, so I gave in. I do that far too easily. I don't get a grade for it so it really doesn't matter but still, no use sitting there confused out of my mind for over an hour, especially as class always goes over as well.

During sport time I watched Nadia (ep 3), part of DoReMi (I love this show, but jumping from ep 2 to ep 79 was a bit of a problem as I hadn't seen past 2...) Commercials here are awesome, lots of fun, and usually for chocolate. They also had puppets playing with a waffle maker between the shows.

Went to the Tabakkiosk, got a Donald Duck comic. Here Scrooge is called something I can't remember, but it's not scrooge. Huey, Dewey, and Louie are called Tick, Trick, and Track here as well. Weird but easy enough to adjust to.

Also found out yesterday that One Piece is coming to the US shounen jump. That's ALMOST enough to get a subscription from me, but I think I'll just wait for the tanks. Oh wait, this is Viz...better just go with the original plan and import 'em from Germany.

German class was OK, didn't do my homework tho...tutorial didn't have time and I wasn't 100% clear on what the assignment was anyways. Something like write a summary of a story or a short version or something like that. We also did some interaction with the German 4 class to set up questions for role played job interviews which are going to happen today. Sadly the question of "do you like donuts and coffee" was lost on everyone else as I was the only american out of the 4 of us in the group, let alone the other 30 people in the room.

Dinner was OK. The food the last couple days has been incredbly heavy, I haven't really wanted to eat as much which is odd. Live to eat, and all that. The beer I had last nite was also a bit odd tasting...not as good as I remembered, still Stiegl tho. Ah well.

After some fast net time and watching David (at) and Anton (by) bicker on the docks, it was time for some hanging out. Juan (mx) brought his laptop and after about 20 min. of realizing that divx sucks nuts by not letting us show it on the 2nd monitor (aka the tv) we gathered around the laptop to watch Pulp Fiction. Sadly, though, it got late and everyone took off before the ending. not wanting to keep Juan there just so I could finish the film, I once again ditched before the last 10 minutes or so. This is the second time that's happened - I have never seen the end of this movie.

I actaully slept well last night. Really well. If I didn't have workshop in an hour I'd consider taking a nap - gotta go to the office first and tell them I'll be gone Saturday. Then I should try and work this thing out for German...

It's probably going to rain today. Always on the day I want to go swimming...
  • Tired. So Very Tired. 2002-07-31 02:41:31 Another night of almost no sleep for no discernable reason, but at least I can rule out alcohol as the cause - had none last night, though I *DID* watch jackass with a couple people and that seems to have the same level of brain cell murdering capabilities.

I am ready to murder Facil (Ukraine). Why the fuck couldn't Stalin have murdered EVERYONE there during collectivization? It's to the point where I'm ready to move tutorial groups just to get the hell away from him. I think I told him to go away/leave me alone some 30 times last night and he just didn't get it. Fucking prick, I swear he's getting off on driving me nuts.

Today is Wednesday. I may go swimming later if the weather stays nice, or take a walk into town and get some fun foodstuffs, or something. Right now I'm wondering why it's taking me so much less time every morning to read the LJ's and the forums and all that good stuff, and why everyone bolts from breakfast so much earlier now as well - last term most people left 5 min. before their classes, now they leave 30 min. early. Weird.

Friday night is the Vienna Philharmonic, Saturday is daytripping.....somewhere.

Some AMV news, I'm absolutely unsure of if I want to bother continuing the one I started before I left. Ditto goes for the group project I'm coordinating. I've got one good idea left in me if nothing else that deserves to be made. Otherwise, it may be time for retirement. It's not like anyone would miss it if I wasn't still around...
