JOURNAL: KittyPryde87 (Ashley Roach)

  • Hmmm.. 2009-01-16 13:37:00 So, I recently uploaded my most recent video, and as the video has not been up long, I have one quick comment.

    * 2009-01-16 13:00:18Plz read the guides and try harder next time!

At first, I was naturally indignant. "Try harder next time?!" I said, my irritation extreme. "You try editing a music video when your house is being foreclosed and you have 100 students to worry about!"

I read the guides years ago, and I've been editing for eight years. Surely, by now I've figured things out.

Then I realized, I was making excuses. I thought the video was good. I thought I had competently executed my idea, even used some effects I am not familiar with. But somehow, I must have mis-executed my idea, for the viewer to see me as a beginner.

So, if you read this, and watch my video, please, tell me where I am going wrong. It is either here on AMV.org, or at the following youtube link, if you would rather not download.

And just tell me where I messed up.
  • There's a Journal?! 2009-01-08 19:09:59 So, I just realized that this site has a journal option. I doubt anyone will read it, so this will probably be my only entry.

If you're looking at this, you somehow stumbled on it through viewing or looking for one of my AMV's (obviously). I use Sony Vegas 6.0, although I am considering moving over to Premiere, as Vegas has shown to be a bit limited. I've been editing since I was 14, and I am getting ready to turn 22. You do the math, as I refuse to. I am an English teacher, it would be undignified.

With the nature of my job, I don't edit as often as I once did. I actually have in my possession dozens of mediocre efforts that I simply have not uploaded. Lately, I only edit when I have time, or if there is a competition (at the time of this blog, I only participate in the MegaCon AMV contest, although I was recently contacted to show at the Broward Anime Festival). I suppose I should expand my horizons a bit, but there simply is no time. Right now I am only a student teacher, so my job and education comes first.

I fell into the anime crowd through the internet when I was a preteen. This was just before the anime explosion that occurred. I love anime and manga- they are a fascinating reflection of Japanese culture. I am a big proponent of the use of graphic novels and manga in the classroom, as they are an excellent way to bridge the gap. Also, the culture is wacky and fun. While I am not as active as I once was, it has led to some very interesting experiences in my lifetime.
