JOURNAL: MindBug (P H)

  • What is MindBug? 2007-09-18 09:22:36 I wanted to take a moment to explain the meaning behind the name MindBug. To me it is more than just a screen name. It is a metaphor about the way the mind works.

When I was young, my parents and teachers started noticing I had developed head ticks and "twitches". There was concern that something was physically wrong with me and I visited numerous doctors in an attempt to pin down why I experienced these ticks. Years went by without anyone being able to give an explanation as to this behavior.

When I was about 8 years old they took me to a doctor who diagnosed me with Tourette’s syndrome. The common misconception of tourette's is that people who have it are unable to control screaming profanities. This is only the case in a very small percentage of people. The most common behavior linked to TS is physical ticks and obsessive/compulsive behavior.

My entire life I have always been an obsessive personality and this has lead to me always being involved in some type of project. Over the years I learned to control the physical ticks I used to experience but I have always had a spot in my mind that feels the need to constantly be doing something.

To me this is what the MindBug is. It is an obsessive need to always be creating or involved in something. It is a mental itch that pushes me to learn new things, and ask why. I feel that almost anything in life can be a blessing and a curse. The goal is to find the benefit in both and to make it work for you.

The MindBug is the spot in my mind that drives me nuts, and keeps me sane all at the same time. It seems that to some extent everyone has their own MindBug. Which leads me to ask... "Where's your head at¿" ^_^

  • Woot! Today is my Birthday!! 2007-09-09 02:31:58 I turn 27 today! ^_^

Almost finished up on my, long time in the making, AMV. Hope to have something posted to the site by early this week!
  • Talk about taking a break! ^O^ 2007-09-06 13:10:55 Hold on a sec... Did someone say "mental vacation"? Talk about taking a break, LOL. We'll I'm back. It has been a LONG time and I am finally back. It's crazy how much life catches you off guard and before you know it several years have gone by.

I do plan on finishing this damn video, hehe. I realized that although I do not have the original project files I have an MPEG file I can use to complete the project. It will be a little bit ghetto that way, but at least it will finally get done. ;)

Oh yeah, my job... I'm Project Manager now. ^O^ It's pretty funny considering I started here as the receiver / kit picker, and worked my way up to support technician, commercial artist, web designer, and now I'm the Project Manager for the company.

I ended up building my new PC also. Actually I have built several since I started working here in 2002. The two I currently have and do all my work on are an Athlon64 4000 on an A8N-SLI Deluxe, with 2GB of memory and a 6800GT 256mb video card. [A little dated] I also built a new server very recently with an Intel 975XBX2KR motherboard, Intel Q6600 Quad core processor, 4gb of memory, an MSI 7600GS 256mb Diamond Plus with HDMI and a redundant 1.5 terabyte storage system. ^_^

The Dell is going to get sold off so if you know anyone that wants to buy a great Intel Xeon 2.2ghz dual processor [only 1 installed atm] system with 512mb of RD-Ram and about 250gb+ hard drive space then drop me a line. Local buyers preferred because it's one heavy workstation.

I have been trying my best in the past few weeks to organize the anime on my PCs as much as possible. I am currently using a little over half a terabyte of my server for storage. I have also been watching a lot of anime in the process!

The xbox never got moded. I actually bought a second one with the intention of modding it, but ended up trading it to my sister for her gamecube along with a couple of her games. The main systems I have are an xBox, Gamecube, PS2, xBox360 and a Wii, but the two main ones I play are my Wii and 360. I can't wait for Eternal Sonata to come out for the 360. *woot*

I am still looking into getting a video camera. My GF and I are planning a trip along with my parents to go to Disney in February and I would like to have one by then. I'm looking into getting a really nice compact camera [size not brand], and have a few different ones in mind.

That's pretty much the update. I will hopefully be getting a video ready for upload soon along with squaring away some profiles I am setting up on other sites. I also was able to add an indirect link to "Battousai Fatali", a video I had not been able to link for the longest time. The internet it great!

Anyway.. Long time no see. Hope everyone is well. It's great to be getting back into a community of creative, like minded people. I look forward to making and watching some great music videos and sharing my thoughts and ideas with others in the community. Feel free to check out my other profiles and drop me a line or send me a friend invite. Hope to hear from ya. ^_^

  • Been on Vacation... 2003-07-06 14:32:55 Well not really, more like a mental vacation. I needed to take a break from all the guide I had been going through and all the new stuff I had been working with in video editing. I have to motivate myself to come back to the video I had been working on and finish that up, and then start working on my second video which I had been planning for a little while now.

I FINALLY HAVE A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! This is GREAT!! This was becoming a major source of stress in my life, and finally I don't have worry about how I'm going to pay bills each month. It also means once I have a little more money put away, I will be able to start buying anime DVD's again. [YES!!!] And possibly start working on building my new PC later this fall-winter.

I would also like to look into upgrading my Dell. It's a Pentium Xeon 2.2Ghz, 512MB RAM, right now has a 40GB main drive and a 100GB secondary. It has a TI 4600 card that I would like to replace with a Matrox card for video capture, and would like to replace the hard drives with some bigger/faster ones with more cache, and most likely setup a RAID system, so I don't have to worry about losing my work.

I'm not sure what the computer I'm planning on building will be, but the job I just got has me putting together parts kits people order from our website. So basiclly I can plan all day while I'm looking at what the stats are for each part, and start to get an idea of what I would like to build. I basiclly want a secondary PC I can use, in place of my Dell which I would use exclusivly to edit. I also have my dinky 533Mhz, which I use as a little slave computer, to handle downloads and copying CD's etc.

I had SO much luck last weekend, as a friend of mine let me borrow his Fansub collection to copy. It was sick how much anime he has, two 200+ CD cases full of complete series or fansubs, and various anime movies. I was able to copy it all in one weekend, but now I have the problem of backing it up off my harddrives. :) I like that problem...

I have also been looking into getting a MOD chip for my Xbox. I really don't care at all about being able to copy a game, and I don't ever think I'll use their online service so it's ok if I get blocked. I would just like to be able to ripp the DVD quality video from the games so I could make various *MV's with them. Another thing I have been wanting to do is get a hold of my parents video camera they never use and along with my digital camera that can handle video, start working on some little side projects and small movies I have had ideas for. I really like any kind of video editing, and want to explore many different ways of doing things.

Lately I have been drawing in my sketch books again here and there , and I have been happy that whatever "block" I had for the last few years temporarily lifted. As I was going through some of my old sketchs, and watching various anime I started wondering about what techniques are used to actually animate japanese cartoons, although it seems most books that have that info on the net, are only for sale. [NOT FREE :(]

Well I just felt like I needed to stop into my account to make sure it still works. HOPEFULLY I will get some inspiration/motivation to finish my current work in progress. And hopefully I can refine my concept for my second video, and really pull something together using the new techniques I have been learning from people on this site. Thanks all...

  • Video Planning... 2003-06-20 12:50:38 Lately I have been thinking more and more about going back to school for video editing, or some other type of video/media classes. I had lost interest in editing for a period of time, because of lack of motivation but lately I have been having soo many creative idea's I don't have time to even mentally plan most of them let alone write them all down in my notebook, so I have been making mental notes for the best ones, and have been planning a series of 3 great videos I intend to be working on for about the next 2 - 3 months I'm guessing...

I don't really want to go into any type of detail but will give you a few idea's of the video. One will be a slow song set to NGE, with a great "twist" to it [and many theme possibilities to run with.] This song is not in english although I am sure many people will recognize it. The next video I am planning is going to be a Love Hina video, with a great "unused" song, and last is a toss up between 2 songs & animes that I am trying to plan out. Not to mention the Kenshin video I mentioned in my last journal entry, which is still in the mental planning stage.

I have been so busy lately, I'm trying to make study materials available to myself although our printer is dying on me, so it's not working out. I have been compiling a study guide of the "best" video editing study materials I come across. I am slowely absorbing "A&E's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video", keeping in mind all the suggestions mentioned in "Phades Guide to Good Anime Music Videos" and also browsing through parts of "ErMaC's Guide to All Things Video" [Chap 6 & 7]. Not to mention I am finally trying to read through the majority of the Adobe Premiere User Manual, instead of just relying on what I have taught myself. I also want to start working off some of the video tutorial guides I have for effects with premiere, adobe after effects, etc...

All this on top of trying to still stay motivated to finish the video I am working on. Don't get me wrong I like the one I am working on, but things have been brought to my attention in these guides that in my video cannot be changed at this point so I am basically struggling through, and improving what can still be altered.

After I finish this video I probably will take a small break to do a full format and recovery on my system, experiment with editing VOB's directly in premiere, and work on various action/lip sync issues that have been bothering me. I am planning a great Seriel Experiments Lain video, with a "good" concept, original song and decent amount of planning so far. I will be going for quality, action sync, and basic-midlevel effects practice [working off after effects guides I have] The song has not been used and is very original but will need to be edited down to hit the 3-3:30 min mark.

Well I should probably get back to my video, and tutorials... I feel like I will never get through it all, but it's fun to try. I will post back when I need to more off my mind...
