  • Woot! Videos! 2009-03-18 14:18:02 Just as I put a new one up, I get a request for another. One more for the Backburner. And I'm still tackling this tricky one regarding Warcraft Commercials.... Hmm....
Still, better than having no ideas. Just figuring how and when is the hard part. And if anyone is actually reading these, feel free to bless me with your vaulted wisdom/experience/whatever.
'Til then... New Vid! At least I got SOMETHING!

  • Look at me - I got a video! 2009-02-24 02:50:48 I've been trolling through entries, stunned by how many AMV's are made. I can't image watching them all - let alone forming an opinion on every single one. Still, it makes me feel a little better when I notice how little my own videos are seen. With erratic connections and Real Life Issues, trying to keep up is enough of a problem.

I'll take a moment here to note: I was somewhat rude when I mentioned a harsh critique given on one of my vids. I do not apologize for the heat behind the words, but more how they may have been interpreted. Having someone go down a video line by line - even citing timecode - and listed flaws that could be corrected, I see as constructive, even helpful. Someone did that on that video. Reflexively, another basically wrote, "Next time try actually making an AMV." That is not only NOT helpful, it was childish, rude, and put me in the funk that caused that rant.

These videos are fun; they're SUPPOSED to be fun; but I don't slap them together. If I did, I'd crank out more. And I assume people go to the same length and effort I do. I may not always appreciate someone else's AMV. Heck, after a week, I might not appreciate my own. But I will always be kind in my critiques, honest, and generous in praise. And I think that anyone who doesn't has never tried it, and should. There is nothing more humbling and inspiring than trying to walk in another's path.

So, to wrap up an entry that ended up far too long, there is a lot out there. I surf Youtube, here, and a few other spots, and I still miss dozens I know. But communities are by definition, larger than a person can get to know in one sitting, or one lifetime. So I guess all I can do is make my place in it, and hope it helps. "Now in the community - 1 tired guy seeking knowledge that neighbors exist. Critics and Haters need not apply."
  • Polite Opinions 2008-07-07 03:35:51 Recently, I got maligned for Riku Thinks Daisuke's Complicated. I appreciate all constructive comments. But if you want to tell me how much I suck, I politely tell you to SHOVE IT.
  • Word Association 2008-01-08 20:12:09 I've got those AMV complete, and they'll be out soon. A new one is in the works, with others possibly forthcoming. The idea goes like this: my friends and I have a musical game to the effect of word association. We start with a song, and sing as much as we can remember until we forget the lines. The next person, or team, or whatever, is supposed to come up with another song and sing it before that person forgets the words. As you can imagine, the longer the game goes, the tricker this gets, especially since we make it a rule not to repeat songs.
So, I'm thinking of doing this with AMV's, by using one anime's opening or closing theme music as the song for a different anime. And see how long I can keep it going. I'll post this in the forum and see if anyone has thought of it as well, and if they have any bright ideas.
  • URL not found?! 2007-08-22 15:36:57 My connections is making an exodus of its own, so I won't be able to put new videos up for a bit. (A shame, really, since I have 4 I need to put up, not counting any I'm holding until contest time.) Until then I'll be working on vids without connection. Also looking to do a Kingdom Hearts vid, so if anyone knows where to acquire footage, give me a yell (domo arigato.) I could get footage for KH2 (which, IMHO, rocks), but I'm also looking for footage from KH1, which I'm not sure I could acquire.
In the meantime, I'm plagarizing one person's idea. A YouTube friend has a Fruits Basket AMV to "Who I Am," and I've asked to remake one using the same concept. Since its from scratch, I guess it's not QUITE plagarism, but I like my work to be original.
