Detective Story in a New York MInute
2004-04-11 11:38:53
I did this video simply because I love my home state of New York and everything about it. When you go into the city, you can find every single nationality in the world in New York city. You can have the best chinese food and pizza that you've ever eaten in your life and see the best baseball team in the world, the New York Yankees, play at the legendary Yankee Stadium and have a great time while eating a hot dog and drinking a beer. Of course, that hot dog and beer will cost you about $20.00 plus tax.
Aside from that, New York is my inspiration for this vid. Aside from the devastation that 9/11 caused, New Yorkers hold their head up high and there's one saying that is all together true: "anything can happen in a New York minute."
The song New York Minute by Don Henley was perfect for this vid. It had a sad sweet tone to it at the same time reeked of that classy old style "man caught up in bad situation and can't get out." feel. When I saw the Animatrix, I loved it. I thought it was fantastic. Not just for the animation but the stories as well. The skit I loved the most out of all the collections of stories in the Animatrix was a Detective Story. I loved how they combined an old fashioned detective story with modern influences and tied that story into the whole Matrix scenario. When I saw it, I could immediatly see and hear New York minute playing in my head and so I atttempted this vid shortly after Inuyasha: Rest in Pieces was completed.
I can honestly say that this vid has been another secret project, aside from the just released Nazo vid. While Nazo's focus is to combined effects with direction. New York Minute's focus is to just go solidly on direction with some mild effects and nothing eye popping or blinding. My intention here was to tell you a story about a man who got caught up in soemthing that he might not be able to get out of.
For the making of this vid, I used once again a variety of tools at my disposal. Adobe Premiere for most of the major editing, wmm2 for the credits and what not, tmpgenic to make it into mpeg forma and ulead videostudio 7.0 for some additional shots and angles that I wanted to try out. I personally feel that if you have a multitude of tools at your disposal it can only help you to be a better vid creator and produce something really spectacular. In this medium, its important to evolve and learn as much as possible so as I've said before, as this medium grows and changes, I too, shall evolve with it.
See ya on the next vid.

Reflections on a New Vid coming & other stuff
2004-03-28 20:19:17
Well, I see that I havne't made a journal entry in a while so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Right now its about 8:17 Eastern time and I am waiting for the Sopranos to come on. I thought that since I had a little time I'd check email and say hello to friends, make a few calls. Not much for going out tonight. I had a busy day.
Well I am happy to announce that the new vid is done. It took six months to complete and was the toughest project I ever embarked on. If it wasn't for Zarxrax's pep talks and help I don't think I could have ever done it. I used a total of five programs to create it. Adobe Premiere, Wmm2, Ulead, Videowave, Snagit, Adobe Photoshop. It was a tough project from start to finish.
I don't think people who are used to seeing my work are going to see this one coming from me. It definately was an evolving step for me as a vid creator and for my studio J&P Productions.
Last year we started to stray from making only Dragonball Z music videos and got into more anime like Runrouni Kenshin, The Transformers, Guyver, Naruto, StreetFrighter, the Animatrix and others. I am really proud of that move into more anime, it means more ways to improve.
All though the new video is a DBZ video, it is not all about DBZ as it is about emotions and feelings, thoughts and projections.
I just hope you all like it.
Take care
See ya on the next vid
Best Regards
J
Oh by the way, drop a line to Pacman121 he just had his second child with his wife! Yay Pac!

The Start of a New Year
2004-01-01 21:13:41
Well, its the start of a new year. I always like New Year's its almost as if you are being given a fresh new start to get things done. Its a new beginning and sometimes, new perspecitves come in order.
For me it was almost losing my grandfather, a man I admire and respect, more then anything. That has made me take stock of the people and things I cherish in life and the new direction my life has taken.
It makes me grateful for the people and things I have in life and to think of better ways to improve myself both as a vid creator and a person and really do better in all that I do.
I am also extremely proud of the people in my studio. They have worked so hard this past year and truly proven themselves a credit to the word "team."
So to all of you I say may you have a wonderful year too and may you find success and joy in all that you do.
See ya on the next vid.
Best Regards,
J

Vids and Perspectives
2003-12-23 00:05:36
So much for taking a vid vacation. No matter how much I try to grip the lyrics of the Huey Lewis song "all I need is a COUPLE DAYS OFF." That never comes to pass. Why? Well, I guess its because my website is in full swing. You might have seen it www.jpproductionsonline.cjb.net. Right now we're running at 35% capacity but its enough to get things jump started. We have major plans for the first of the year, or more or less, the second or third week of the the new year i.e. January but that's only because my personal life has become much more complicated.
I'm not one for telling the world all about my inner most secrets and desires, I like to keep those private but I can tell you I am proud as hell about the new video I put out. For three months I have been training myself on a lot of new programs and the new version of Adobe Premiere that I just got. I think the training has paid off.
Just goes to show, whenever I say I'm gonna take a break, run amuck for a while to catch up on leisure time, I never do. I like to work. I like to push myself beyond my limits. Lately though I've found something in another person who has made me reach inside of myself and really pull out what's buried and explore that further.
Crazy? Heh. Maybe.
Why not take a risk though? Isn't that a joy in life? To take risks and explore.
Now I'm going to bed.
Good night all :D
