JOURNAL: Resop2 (Craig Roll)

  • A new AMV in the works 2002-09-01 00:10:14 Actually two at once. It just took one day back to remind myself how buggy and hard to use Premiere is. But, so far, I have remembered how to whoop the bugs.

I would like to thank all the people who have been d/l-ing my AMVs.
Almost 2000 for "Anime girls on film" and 1300 for "It's all about the Anime, Baby". I'm sure there are tons of titles that have been d/l-ed more, but just in a general sense of making art, many artist's work are never seen by that many people!

For those interested, the new ones, targeted towards Katsucon 2002 (but will screen at exibition at Anime USA 2002 if finished) are:

Ayeka's Samurai (Little Butterfly from DDR mix 3)

Angel Mask (The sequal to Slayer Moon. Yeah, I eventually will finish what I promised at Katsuncon 2002)
  • what ya gonna do? 2002-03-23 07:34:09 When lip synch mannia runs wild on you?

I was able to come up with another "way cool" effect that I haven't
seen be used before. This one involves using a partially transparent
clip in motion that lip synchs.

Today I get a processor upgrade (from 266 to 500 MHZ).

I wonder if I'll be able to publish my vids in MPEG (as opposed to
    the current MOV and RM)?
  • lip synch-o-rama 2002-02-27 23:58:08 Or is it lip synch-o-ranma?

Just got done putting together the first (of many) lip synch segment
for my new video. Since it's all to the same sample, I guess the
theory is that the other segments show have the same "timing".

So, can I exploit this? Yes, because I used a spreadsheet to
"map" out where the lips should (open, closed or half) at
    each point of the sample.

A lot of work and a lot of guessing, but if I can get the
different segments to look good side by side, that might be
a trick that NO ONE has done before.
  • Getting started 2002-02-18 23:10:33 I am struck that the planning for an AMV creation is so completely different from movie making.

In making a movie, you have a script.
In making an AMV, you have a song.

In making a movie you have a shooting schedual.
In making an AMV you have tons of pre shot footage to edit together.

What tools would make AMV making easier?

What tools would make it easier to PLAN an AMV so that one could
try to invision "plot threads" ahead of time instead of having them
    happen by luck?

    Points to ponder.
  • What does it all mean? 2002-02-07 00:49:21 Well the Katsucon entry came out okay.

Lessons learned: 1st generation, no subtitles!!!

Anyway, time to start working on an Otakon Entry.

Have been saving stuff to CD-rom to free up space.
The previous project has been saved and restored
    and verified.

So what lies ahead? What ideas from the 150 some
    AMV's that I have seen can I steal ... I mean appropriate.

Lip synch has been done to death, but it is useful in
small doses. (Must minimize lip flapage otherwise, unless
    it's in the background.

One technique that isn't often used is moving matte (having
most of the screen blank except for a rectangle that moves
back and forth with the action.

But, above ALL else, the effect must fit the song/mode.

    Too many thoughts!
