Trapped in a lift

I used to laugh in dramas whenever someone got trapped in a lift because I always thought to myself, "surely it can't be that frightening?"
Boy was I so wrong. It's fucking terrifying. I'm not even exaggerating. How do I know?
Because I was trapped in a lift today. That horrible moment when the recorded voice says: "Level 1, main entrance. Doors opening." AND THE DOORS DO NOT OPEN. Then the lift started shuddering and jumping up and down while constantly repeating the same line with the doors CLOSED despite us spamming the open door button.
To top it off, it decided to repeat this scenario for about 5-6 times, scaring the living daylights out of us before the door finally opened and we were freed from this nightmare.
And the really ironic thing? Just earlier that day my friend was talking about an email she sent to the department about the lifts being dodgy (since she's the student rep) and the department had replied that the lift had only undergone maintenance recently and was tested to be working just fine.
AHEM HELLO? WORKING FINE? YOU KIDDING ME? I don't know how much of my time has been wasted so far just waiting on the damn things everyday because despite having four "working" lifts, only ONE is ever truly working. The other three either don't move or are stuck on a certain floor. There's congestion on the first floor every day on the hour when classes change because too many people are waiting on a lift, it's ridiculous! Stop refurbishing the tower and focus on fixing those lifts first! D<
