Honestly, why am I still watching this show? It's so awful.
Sure it has some of my favourite elements, pretty bishies(:D), romance, history and supernatural but it's so badly done. For example.
Narration: Hijikata goes to fight enemy XYZ at ABC place. They lost x amount of soldiers.
What we see: clips of cannonballs flying, soldiers dying, for about half a minute.
Next we see: some negotiation about the next war
.....
Also why does everybody die in this?! I thought it was a shoujo?! Or at least targeted at girls since it was based on an otome game? So where's all the romancey stuff?! And if it's not shoujo but action then where are the fights?! Pretty guys slashing at some random enemy dudes do not count. Not action but history? But all we get are dates and narration....
And supernatural? Ok, we have humans, oni(demons) and rasetsu(which are basically vampires - I mean they turn to dust, what more proof do we need?) but these are never elaborated. So we KNOW they are there but they don't actually play much of a role.
In order words - pointless and unnecessary.
So to sum it up, it has all the elements needed for a great show but it's so poorly done that it's not even worth the time watching.
But it's one of those damn annoying shows that you can't stop watching despite it being crappy. (I only have 2 episodes left of HH)
And don't get me started on the main heroine. One word - annoying as fuck.
Hang on, that's three. >__> My bad.
Though seriously, she might be caring, kind, and willing to sacrifice herself for the people she love but god...I couldn't help but cringe. She's just so...weak. It's mentioned in the show that she was trained to use her short sword but every single time she's in danger IT NEVER GETS USED. Ohwait, she might have used it ONCE but most the time she doesn't even pull it out to DEFEND herself instead choosing to close her eyes waiting for one of the bishies to save her.So why is it there exactly?
