JOURNAL: serDouglass (Gabriel Pitt)

  • Ops ops and more ops 2002-03-04 07:12:01 Well I was just tooling around, checking out the new videos, leaving opinions, seeing what responses to my previous opinions had been, when I realized that the last three opinions I had left had totaled about two pages of written text apiece. Then, because it had been a while since I'd last done it, I sorted through the (few) reviews that my stuff had gotten, and despite the general ingratitude it shows to bitch at people who have been kind enough to watch my work and rate (note I _did not_ say comment) it, I'm going to do so anyway.
C'mon people, really, I don't really give a fig and a half about the actual numbers, i want to know what you THINK! With really only two noteable exceptions, the reviews I've gotten have tallied one average thirty words or less, and for a couple its obvious that they only bothered to put the words in its required for the review to count, or just gave the video arbitrarily high scores across the board because they liked the amv (I know this sounds like a really petualant thing to say, but when I get an 8 on the capture score when the sourse is a third generation vhs off of japanese television, with a great deal of picture break up... I'd like to know what people honestly think.
When I got started, I left inflated ratings with very little in the way of words, but with practice, and an effort to be informative, I now like to leave at least a couple hundred words per review, so not that I thought their projects rocked/stunk, but precisley why I thought so.
So in summaary, yes, I know that I'm being an ungrateful git, but good, informative feedback is better than a bunch of high numbers.
  • Addendum to industriousness 2002-02-03 21:18:11 I just realized that Sanguinary Derangement is my thirteenth completed video. That means I've done one a month since acquiring my capture card and editing software. If I was this consistant in writing (or at least in using the loo), my life would be a much easier thing.

Hrm... AMVs as intellectual fiber... maybe I should end this train of thought right here.
  • What does one do with one of these anyway? 2002-02-03 21:10:59 Well, I have access to one of these, so I might as well write something down...

Well I've finally gotten time to work on an amv again, but I'm not sure whether that is a fact to be lauded or bemoaned, since now that I had the oppurtunity, I went and blew it on a *shudder* Linkin Park video.

Okay, all melodramatics aside, I'm actually rather pleased with how it turned out. I'm not a big fan of Linkin Park, but I agree that a portion of their stuff is at least listenable, if not down right enjoyable. I also agree that it's been horrendously overused, especially with Dragonball, as evidenced by the fact that both are number 1 in the usage list, by more than three times the number of entries of the number 2 spot. Of course, the mere fact that it's been run into the ground has never discouraged me before (just ask anyone who's ever heard me tell a joke - again and again and again)if I think I can do something marginally original with it.

So... I guess I had more to say than I thought. Please, do me a favor, ask for a copy of one of my videos (contact information is contained within each set of video comments), leave an opinion, pop a couple of my delusions of adequacy, whatever.
