I'm just starting out, I hope to release some quality amvs onto the internet, and this seems like a good place to get them noticed. I actually have rules for my editing:
Either try something original or try something that you think can improve an AMV you thought had the right song and anime, but wasn't perfect
Use anime footage, no manga or fan art
Match the cuts with the music and vocal beats
Look through as much footage as you can/hold on to footage in editing
Listen to the song your using and listen to it A LOT
 Pace yourself
Cutting and Editing: The most important tool at your disposal, more than any effect or filter, smart editing will save your video more than any other post-editing effect you may use. This is what’ll match your shots, what will make your video flow, what will match your song with your video and vice versa, it is the way to make a good AMV, it seems a ton of people have forgotten about that, but don’t you forget, smart editing will save you more than any other tool you have, so use it smart, and use it well.
