Er... Hi.
Ain't a lot to say. Hmmmm.
Anime came into my life one day. What a good day that was. Years ago now... I watched "El-Hazard" with my awesome brother James (currently president of Ithaca's rockin' anime society!) and thought to myself: "Self... this is great stuff!" It was all downhill/uphill from there....
Actually, anime came into our lives way earlier, when we were in grade school and would get up every morning at 6 to tape the daily episode of "Mysterious Cities Of Gold" and then rush home after classes were over to watch it. Of course we had barely heard of Japan at the time, all we knew was that this was the best stuff showing on TV. Hey, if anyone knows where to get some of those old episodes, we'd be very very grateful... all our tapes got co-opted later for episodes of "Mystery" and "Star Trek" which is a damn shame.
Ah, and presently I'm in Germany for a year. "Engel" has come in handy. The Germans have big manga sections in all their bookstores. Pretty sweet.
Seeing and thinking about all these videos has really changed the way I approach music (I've studied classical viola all my life and am just about to start going professional) which is all good with me ;) They're an acquired taste for sure, as has been driven home to me from time to time, but I think the crafting of a really effective video is one of the trickiest and loveliest ways to look at art and find out what animates it. Ach, scheisse, I really did not intend for that to be a pun. Ouch! I really didn't! Hey!
Someone on this site said at one point "If a picture is worth a thousand words, an AMV is worth a million." Whoever you are, you're right on the money.
It would be fun to try to make one at some point. Maybe next lifetime. In the meantime, all I can contribute is a list of the 100 niftiest videos I've run across so far. I'll keep updating this as I come across progressively niftier and niftier ones. Ah, and anyone who's interested in an opinion is welcome to send me an email.
Greetings to all who happen to come this way.
