- Profile: Well folks apparently I am the infamous "You Know Who", Creator of the AMVs "Dirty Pair: Girls With Guns", Hair, Be Forever Yamato, Macross, Project A-ko & Time Stranger.
Here’s my story….
Way back in 1985 ( 1 year out of high school) I got an entry level position at a post production video editing facility. Over the years I taught myself to edit by creating music videos using Anime, which I was very much into (I like to say that I was into Anime before it was COOL). My first video was Hair. (I transferred a bunch on Nth generation anime that I had to 1inch video tape and edited it using a CMX editor and Grass Valley Switcher.) Next, I did the infamous "Girls with Guns" video ( I must say this one has always been my favorite and apparently has been yours as well).
Next came the subtitling of several of my favorite Anime movies for friends (Macross, Time Stranger, Be Forever Yamato & Project A-ko among them). I noticed at the end of the Macross video there was a great song with white text over black. I thought it would be cool to make a music video of the song and "key" the text over it. It looked pretty cool. So I got in the habit of creating a music videos of the credit songs (even if I couldn't key the credits over them).
I had fun making the vids and gave them to some of my anime fan buddies, and that was the end of it... or so I thought.
Flash forward to 2015, I have not really followed Anime for the last 15 years or so. I am old school and love the old stuff. Ive watched a few things of the new but I haven't been to a CON in a LOOOOOOONG time. I had posted a few of my old vids on my youtube channel a few years ago and thought nothing of it until recently when I was surfing youtube and found one of my videos…. posted by someone else. Plus it had the slate on it which I know I didn't include on my original upload. Then I started reading the comments...wow...I didn't know it was so popular. I did some more research and found out that I am apparently one of the great "mysteries" of the AMV world?! Thanks!!!
I was famous and apparently didn't even know it.
For all of you old school editors, I still have my videos on 1 inch tape (Good luck finding a 1" machine) and on Beta-cam. So if you like I can post them again.
Also there is one Dirty Pair Vid that I started but never finished. It was to the song "Killer Queen". I could post that in its current condition if you want.
So there you have…Mystery Solved
Thanks
