I have been doing Anime Music Vids for a while though rather sporadicaly. My first piece was done while learning to edit in college. I entered it into the Anime Expo MV contest that year and it flopped( too much live action) Live and learn. My second piece (Robo Impossible)was entered into the Anime Expo MVC in 98 and it took 2nd in its division (that was the year Kevin Caldwell swept the entire event and all categories) I have done a few since and am working on a couple curently and hope to renter the competition some year (when the current organizers have been replaced).
The videos I entered were done on a linear system using Panasonic A570's with a known 4 frame slip.
What I used for a while were Matrox Rainbow Runner Studio and G-Series (one is my machine the other is my Fiance's) And a combination of Adobe Premiere 5.1 and Ulead Media studio Pro 5.0.
I have since upgraded to Premiere Pro 2.0, After Effects 7 Pro and the rest of the Adobe Video Poduction suite.
Most of what I do in the AMV genre of late has consisted of GOH Intro Videos. Myself and my mate have done the GOH vids for several years for AX except for 2005. We have done the GOH intro vids for PMX since its first yea and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
