In contrast to my pro work i like to take a very "low tech" narrative route when making AMVs. I dont use any effects besides simple fades and maybe the odd strobe at a push. I believe that telling a story is more important than using cheesy effects to float an otherwise bad AMV. Shot selection that suits the music is more effective and often alot better than using effects to trace the beat of the music.
I prefer clever choices of anime, shot selection and music, allowing the viewer to be guided through the AMV by their own intuition and emotion. The only downfall to this metod is that often my AMVs are mis interpreted unless the viwer has seen the anime (sometimes even know where the original song is from)
