What's the PC version/equivalant of Soundtrack Pro

Post by stangace20 » Thu May 14, 2009 4:02 am

I used it in a class at school a while back along with Final Cut Pro on a Mac. But I mainly use a PC and while I know that that Adobe Premiere is pretty much the exact same as Final Cut, I don't know what the euqivalant audio editing program is. I learned to use ST Pro so the more alike they are the better.

I'm going to assume Soundtrack Pro is an audio editing program (if it's made by Apple, then it can't be a DAW, because they already have Logic for that). Have you checked the appropriate post on the Software List sticky for similar programs?

Somebody might want to make a similar sticky in this board for just the audio apps...

yes STP is an audio editing program for MAC, but I'd like to know specifically which ones are the most like it on a PC

Well, Soundbooth is Adobe's audio editing app. Sony has Sound Forge.

I haven't spent much time with Soundtrack Pro, so I don't know what's more similar. If I were to guess though, it'd be Soundbooth, so you might check that out.
... yea ...

Fixed.

well anyone know where I can get a good FREE copy of SoundBooth or Audition? I know as a student I can get Soundbooth CS4 for like $70 but of course being a student spending money is a last resort.

If you're taking classes in a related field, you could see if the school has any grants that could cover the cost. Some of them have equipment clauses, but whether 'equipment' would include relevant software, I don't know.

Ah, I was blissfully unaware that Audition was still in existence. I just knew what had been coming in the Creative Suites. :P
I'll still stick to my guess that Adobe's products would be more similar to Apple's, though.

And outside of Qyot's suggestion, you're only chance of getting it free would be getting it as a gift from somebody.

If you just need it for a short time, or just want to try them out, you could always get the free trials off of the developer's site.

Audacity might work for you, and it's free.

A more sophisticated alternative if you don't mind a DAW (still with full editing capabilities) would be Reaper
It's effectively free. There's only one version so the evaluation version is exactly the same as the full (personal or commercial) version. They simply ask for $60 if you use it past 30 days.
