Vegas Video Codecs

Post by gungrave1919 » Fri Aug 11, 2006 12:12 pm

Hi, havent been on inawhile, but I'm requesting some assistance.

Vegas Video isnt opening certain anime episodes off my harddrive... mainly all the new stuff, like eureka seven, ergo proxy, air gear, that sort of stuff.

Why is this? also at the same time, do I need an updated codec for vegas video 5.0? Or can it just not open them? Also, is there an option for more advanced editing I'm not aware of?

Anything to help me get this figured out would help, because my music video editing has gone away because of this.

I'm also using vegas because I "BOUGHT" an actual copy and it was expensive, I have alot of practice with it, I would also like to continue using it.

Thanks guys.

Your problem stems mainly from the fact that the episodes that you are trying to open are encoded with a codec not meant for editing (h.264 or yes, even XviD). It is also possible that the container that the episodes are in aren't compatible or openable with Vegas (like .MKV).

I'm not advocating the use of downloaded anime for footage, but your best recourse is to convert the episodes into a different format/codec for editing. You'll need to use AviSynth and create a script that loads the video (DirectShowSource()) for use in VirtualDub/Mod. Then convert into Uncompressed RGB, Huffyuv or Lagarith AVI. These codecs make large files so you'd better just make clips of the parts you need instead of converting the entire episodes (unless you have tons of HDD space).

HDD space is not a prob, considering its a EDITING only machine. THANKYOU so much for the help, I'm just glad with all of the people on this site there are still some good tip givers.

Thankyou once again and I will go ahead and convert the eps I need.

we can close this now, I'm fine, this was an EXTREME help. Case closed!
