That's an interesting point. I think that I fall somewhere in between. I like to keep any original work so that I can see how much further I've progressed. However, there are some videos that I would love to rework just because I did not have the skills at the time to implement my ideas. In that case I would find it worth the time and effort to do it. It would make a nice comparison.

If you have the patience to do a remake or remastering, then go for it.

Personally, i think you should do this for your pink floyd azu manga daioh video.

This is actually two separate issues: remasters and remakes.

A remaster is where you take an old video and redo it with better quality video/audio source (for instance if you were to replace a video made with poor quality footage with DVD footage). This kind of thing you should file a delete request for the original video FILE (not the database entry), and then replace.

A remake is where you go back to the same concept as an old video ofyours and redo it with different edits. So, if you use the same idea, but make a new video out of it, then that's a remake. This kind of thing you should create a new, separate database entry for.

Personally I try to avoid going back and tweaking old stuff, because there would be no end to it. That's why I usually archive my completed projects to DVD and delete the VOBs a few days after I've completed a video. For a perfectionist like me it's the only way to stay sane. :|

Although it is tempting to add a bunch of new stuff, the truth is only have trouble with ONE scene to be honest. It was good- but so poorly synced that unless you have watched the show, it would have made no sense to you and be totally shocking and weird.

Otherwise I like the scenes and timing. I may edit a bit better. Don't think I would add special effects.

And what's the link/guide for ripping off a PS2 disk again? I have been successfully ripping off most of the DVD footage (but I'm having trouble with disk 2), and I do not want to combine ripped stuff with captures where there would be a humongous difference in quality.

The only "remaster" I've ever made is my Convention version of Together.

The major changes in that and the original were the fact that my original release of Together had movie style credits in them that made people go 0_0 and the convention version had to remove all credits due to prejudging probabilities. [as in people will see Omni Strata Studios and then think "mark lower, mark lower!"] I also upped the res to something bigger.

Thankfully, I hoped that my convention version could catch people off guard :)

Or not...

I basically refuse to do remakes of videos. Once a video is done and released, I move on. It allows me to look back and see how much progress I've made, and I can be reminded of mistakes to fix in the future. Plus, it's a serious pain redoing things the way I edit.

I recently managed to remaster my Metal Kombat video through some fun filters and such...looks better, though the quality is still somewhat wanting since all I had was a MPEG-1 "master" (the original died long ago, unfortunately). Still need to get it re-uploaded.

I usually just move on for smaller AMVs that I make just for fun because I like the idea of combining the anime I like (but has never been top fave and probably not even fave for that year) with a song I like. I may look at them and try to determine what I would do differently with my current skill level- usually not much for more recent stuff, just removing subtitles and syncing better for 2003 ones.

HOWEVER, when I'm passionate about something, you bet I get OBSESSED with it.

I may have to settle for just a remake of my best AMV. Not only has DVD Decrypter failed to decrypt all the necessary footage- but the one ripped looks no better than the stuff I captured analogously. Which is understandable, given how old this anime is. But since I do want to change a poorly synced scene, switch one where the characters do not look as crisp as usual, and change the resolution of the video (if the file size permits), I still would love to remake it.

hahaha with the advent of affordable fast/large hard drives I've become a bit of a packrat. You're right...if you don't delete the source material...the temptation to rework projects is too strong.
