How did this get started?

I would consider some of the first animated music videos to be the original Warner Bros. and MGM Animated shorts. Specifically, Rhapsody in Rivets is a classic that I always look to to renew my belief in the medium. It's such an absolutely fantastic cartoon. I highly recommend seeking it out - there were a series of Laserdiscs out a while ago with all the old MGM/WB cartoons, and I think there's also a DVD release of it but I'm not sure.

Of course, I had to dig out the Fan2000 DVD and watch that last video again. Beautiful stuff.

Oh yeah.... I totally forgot. I love that movie. Hehe my parents took me out of school one afternoon when I was in elementary or middle school to take me to see it in a movie theater when it was released a few years back. That was great.

Have there been AMV contests at cons for a long time?

I'd like to know the content of that purported 1982 video... would tie in nicely with the first Grafitti of Otaku Generation.

I got started in 1989, and Matt Murray of Corn Pone Flicks had maybe a year before me... but before that I just don't know.
