Can I Use That For An AMV?

Post by allmostanyone » Sat Jun 28, 2014 5:20 pm

Hellooooo!
I've been around for many years but this is the first year I've made an effort to participate and so this is my first topic here! Apologies if this is the incorrect place for this question, I wasn't sure if it was suitable for this forum, Video & Audio Help, or Opinion Exchange.

I was thinking up new AMVs when I thought of doing a spoof of Dos Equis beer commercials. Ya know, the "I don't always drink beer but when I do ..." and then thought is that even legal? The idea would be to use the same style as the commercial and the product itself. I recall reading an article a few years ago, I think it was fan writing, about if AMV could be considered copyright infringement and such, I haven't followed up on the issue since.
So I wondering, seriously, could it be could it be considered illegal in any way? It's fan made, no profit involved, and nothing offensive about it. it is my understanding that parodies are protected as fair use so would this count as one? Or am I just overthinking the whole issue

if you want to get technical, most forms of AMVs are copyright infringement so I really wouldn't worry
