AMVs in others language than English or Japanese

Post by Melina-chan » Mon Mar 28, 2005 11:22 am

I'm now building my first AMV ever.I can't wait to show it to you.It will be "so so" but anyway I'm really proud of it X-D
I'm using a French song for making it...
So I would like to know if I'm the only ones for making AMV's with songs from others languages than english or japanese.
Do you like watch AMV with a "Foreign" song???
For originilaty,I am sure to win some points.
What I am so bored,it is to watch AMV with the song "Bring me to life" of Evanescende....I think I saw like 9 AMVs with this song O_o

You're not the only one. Look for instance, at the famous Engel AMV by Kevin Caldwell back in 1999. 8)

Just look at the top10%, you've got AMVs with french or german songs on the top of it. I guess it proves people don't really mind about the language of the song if the video is good ;)

Yeah, there are some really popular AMVs to German music (Engel, Mitternacht, etc). I'm not sure if any other languages (besides Japanese) are as popular. . . can't think of any off the top of my head. . . but so what? Use the song you want. I like watching AMVs in other languages too.

I like foreign language AMVs. Even if I do not speak the language. As long as the music is upbeat.

My second AMV is in a foreign language. Technically it is Romany/Gitane/Calo. But to me it sounds just like Spanish and I can understand everything in it. The song was originally written in Italian, but the Gipsy Kings changed it to the language of their songs.

Non-English/japanese AMV's are awesome because you get to treat the voice as an instrument and foucus on tone and emotion without all that pesky meaning getting in the way.

I've seen German (lots of these), French, Finnish (I think), Choral, Made up languages (Adiemus), and last but not least Spanish Techno (ATTENCION!!!).

Now I take it that you are a native French speaker. If so, a few guidelines: Be careful with the lyric synching, most english speakers will probly be able to figure out what the title means or get the general gist of the song if it's not to complicated, but not indevidual lines. So it's fine to make a love song into a romance video, but don't make something that has tons of explicit lyric synching if you want most people to get it. Mood synching is especially effective.

My Blue Sub No. 6 video uses a song in Russian. So that represents another language and I've confirmed the following at least here. . .

English
Chinese
Japanese
French
Spanish
German
