Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles

Post by angelx03 » Fri Mar 25, 2005 12:18 am

Since I didn't want to start hijacking that Tsubasa/Negima thread that's buried, I decided to create my own.

Ok, as most of us know, the Tsubasa TV series will premiere on April 9. The official website is here as well as the Encyclopedia entry in ANN here if you're wondering about any kind of info.

Now here's something you guys might like. There's a TV trailer floating around in that fansub forum everyone knows about (you know what I'm talking about ). It's not subbed, but you can get it in the Tsubasa thread. I would post it here, but I don't think it's allowed since it's not from the official website.

Judging from the trailer, the visuals looks pretty simplified from the manga (of course that's expected). Syaoran's voice sounds deeper, but of course he looks older than himself in CCS. And the music that's playing in the background sounded like the singer who did the Gravitation songs.

I definetely can't wait for this! :P

I think it looks gorgeous.

And yes, Kotani Kinya is definately in the background (the singer), who did many of the songs on Gravitation.

It looks like Maaya Sakamoto is doing the ending song, and if that's correct and I'm currently listening to the right song, it sounds pretty

I do hope it is available soon, if you know what I mean. I do like the manga quite a bit and would love to see the animated version of Tsubasa's Emeraude.

I really love the lankier, rougher style used in the manga, so I'm not too pleased with the character designs I've seen for the anime. Also...can someone PLEASE tell me why Fai's face is so round?

My computer's acting up and won't let me...ah...acquire the trailer, so hopefully, I'll stumble across someone's who's got it online and they can send it my way. :(

I, too, can't wait for this.

Being a CLAMP fan, I really can't wait to see the alternate Magic Knight Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura characters.
I really love the lankier, rougher style used in the manga, so I'm not too pleased with the character designs I've seen for the anime.
The animation is being produced by Bee Train, so the overall character style is going to look more like .hack//SIGN, Noir, and MADLAX.

I'm curious as to why Bee Train was chosen. I would have thought Madhouse Studios would have gotten this one, since they did much of the previous CLAMP anime projects, including Cardcaptor Sakura, X, and Chobits (and the resulting character and art style was almost true to the original CLAMP art).

I like. I like a LOT.

About the only thing I'm not sure I like is Shaoran's voice; I'm too used to his CCS version's voice. It'll probably take me a few episodes to get used to it. What little of Sakura's I could hear under the announcer sounded very fitting, though.

Of course, the feathers are pink. No other color would fit, except maybe white. ^_^

Kurogane looks excellent, almost exactly the way he does in the manga, though that quick shot of Fai makes his face look much rounder than the manga did. I'll need to see more than that one shot to see if it's just the angle or what. And of course, Mokona utterly rocks (though his ears seem longer than in MKR...)!

I'm also liking how Yuko, Watanuki, and Maru/Moro look. Much potential is there for the xxxHolic movie.

I, too, am looking forward to seeing what the alternate-world analogues look/sound like under Bee Train's animation style, rather than their original studios. And I'm now very relieved that Bee Train's style works for the characters; I was worried that the normal angularity of their work would make the very smooth, curved lines of CLAMP's characters look odd.

Two more weeks, two more weeks...

Oooo, the official website has an update.

http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/tsubasa/yokoku.html

I guess it's a preview of Episode 1. And I believe the people who are talking is Sakura and Syaoran. If that's the case, man, they do sound older.

Ok, due to my impatience of someone fansubbing, I was able to obtain a RAW version of Episode 1.

I have to say that this looks pretty promising, and it seems that Bee Train adapted form the manga pretty well with some few minor changes. The music reminded me a lot of the BG from .hack//SIGN though I sort of expected that; the music was indeed pretty fitting. Animation was very good, but not mind-blowing awesome, but that's also expected from Bee Train. Same goes with the character designs which indeed reminded me of the designs of .hack.

The voice acting is something to get used to especially for people who are used to the original one in other CLAMP series especially for Syaoran's voice. Though I have to say, Yui Makino's debut role as Sakura is actually not too bad. The VA for Kurogane sounds like an absolute badass which is a good thing, and the one for Fai sounds pretty "flowerly."
The first episode ended as I anticipated which where Syaoran and the gang meet up at Yuko's place; I say it's a bit of a good preview of what the upcoming XXXHolic movie will look like.

And yes, Fai's face was indeed round; it was no angle shot. But for some odd reason, he has weird tattoos on his back.
I'll see if I can put up some screencaps of this later.

They are supposed to be in their late teens in this one iirc.
(It would be in keeping with the ending of the Cardcaptor Sakura manga, which also ends with them reuniting many years after the events, sometime in their mid- to late-teens. Even if this is being called a "parallel universe" story, whose to say what really happened to Sayoran and Sakura after the manga ends... just food for thought.)
