Is there some reason that they don't split drama down into sub-categories? It would make sense to do romance/sentimental and drama/serious or something along those lines...I seem to remember a number of other cons doing this, and I suspect it would make the contest a little more interesting. Grouping by category would have been nice as well...Brakus wrote:That's what I always suggest... it's just that the drama entries (21) outnumbered the action AND comedy entries combined (14)! If I had my druthers I'd present it the same way, by category.

There's also the tactic of limiting all categories to the same number of entries, determined either by the category receiving the fewest qualified entries or by time considerations. For example, ACen does this (but they also have 5 categories plus the theme).dragonrider622 wrote:Is there some reason that they don't split drama down into sub-categories? Most contests have a romance category. Some of the drama videos would have fit into this...and made the contest much easier to judge.LunaAislin wrote:Yeah I agree completely. This was the plan for Katsucon orginally is to have the same number of entries in each catagory. Drama is always entirely too heavy on submissions you guys need to start making more comedy and action videos!

Tell me about it 21 drama videos. Meaning 21 creators were going up against each other for one award. Where in action it was 5 videos and in comdey it was 9.
I really prefer the Otakon set up for an amv contest. Having 5 categories and 5-7 videos, depending on length, in each category. For it breaks up the judging and makes it easier on the auidence to choose. Plus then there are better odds at winning your category too.

That's exactly what happened on Friday after the DVD player started to act up. Once the PC was hooked up, the DVDs played through it with no problems whatsoever. For the Saturday showing, all the DVDs were played through the PC, and the showing was by leaps and bounds much better.Mroni wrote:The videos should have been on a pc attached to a digital projector. I remember last year katsucon took an hour to get the contest going.
