I loved your entry (not to mention it was the only drama video with a story)! I voted for you for Drama.Perfect-Blue wrote:Drama Category Winner:

I've only seen the first 8 or so episodes of the first season of Clannad (when the Fuuko storyline ended I felt like the series should have been over and I stopped watching), and since After Story is apparently quite a bit more dramatic than the first season, I didn't believe it was Clannad until after it was over and my friend told me so. My thoughts the whole time: "Is this Clannad? Naw, it can't be. But they really look like Tomoya and Nagisa... this isn't anything like Clannad though... maybe it's just something with a similar art style"

As for community judges, I don't really see how that would be a problem. I've actually been talking with Ben about it and I feel that bringing him, along with Pwolf and Castor Troy would be excellent judges. They've got an eye for quality and diverse tastes among the three of them to offer an excellent opinion on the videos for the contest during the judging process. I don't really see the need to DQ them from the contest or make them ineligible to judge based on whether or not they entered. As long as they vote unbiasedly then there shouldn't be a problem. Kisanzi and I do the same thing for NDK and I've entered the past two years, we have friends entering and he's even trying for a submission this year. Hell, most of the time I give my videos a ranking of 4/10 because, even though their mine, I feel that's what they honestly deserve. Besides, I don't see those 3 guys stamping their feet and whooping like idiots every time their own video plays so they would probably be the best choices ;p
Ben has already said he'd be down for it, same with Scott and I don't Ryan would have a problem
Or if anything, just don't let them judge their own videos. As long as the final judging is done off a general average based system and not adding up scores, it would be fine.
On this one I have to disagree strongly. No matter how hard we try to make it unbiased all it would take is one or two people to cry bias and the drama would rise to fever pitch yet again. Even perceived bias is just as bad as actual bias in the credibility of a contest in my mind. I would love to have Ben back in the judging pool. However he would not be allowed to enter that year. We will just have to agree to disagree on that one. I agree with you in concept but in practice its not that simple. I have deliberately kept the judges list private both out of respect for the judges and to prevent anyone trying to curry favor from them. Not that 90% of the folks on this board would even think of such a thing but not a year goes by where I don't get people trying to sweet talk their way into the contest, usually its folks who miss the deadline. Is that a misguided thought? Maybe.
The other problem with knowing who all the judges are is that you can learn their preferences and then people just start to make videos they think will fit the judges tastes not their true vision for how they want their video to be. That, in my mind, has the strong potential to limit and or stifle creativity even if only a small amount.
Troy outed himself. To be 100% honest about this, I am of mixed feelings on his having done so. But, whats done is done. To date it has not proven a hindrance so I am not overly worried about it.
Lastly,on this reply, the number of judges. The number I try for is 10. Its a nice diverse sampling while not proving too unwieldy when it comes time for averaging the ballots.
my.02 for now.

not yet. there is a minor technical glitch stopping that.Cyrix wrote:Whew this thread has gotten long. Has DP posted the preshow list yet?
The power supply for the external drive which holds the premier project file apparently didn't make it home from con. The drive did, but not the power supply. so I need to move the drive to a new external enclosure to get at the content. I get paid Friday.
Sorry for the delay guys.

uh.
I don't think I'd ever want to consider being an actual AX AMV Contest judge. Having to sit through 300+ entries would rot my brain.
When I judged the 60+ videos for CSUN's AMV Contest in 2002, I couldn't even look at an amv without immediately putting my head down. I also couldn't even feel the front part of my brain for a week.
Thanks for considering me, but I'd rather stick to being an AMV Chef judge where I only have to judge 2 videos.
