That actually needs to get corrected and I've emailed Nikki and Michael.
When i did my paper submission, i had the wrong song written on due to my own personal mix up of artist and song titles.
Its not Inception i can assure you that.

Don't worry, I never took it that way. hahaha just trying to offer explanation just in case there was a mis-understanding. You are offering help and at least from me, it is appreciated.

It really depends on perception and interpretation. I've had discussions with people all the time about videos making it into categories they don't believe should be there, but to me, it's still fitting. So it really depends on what the judges think of the video. I also know first hand (currently judging IC4 and previous contests) how judges tastes and interpretations differ. What I think of a video can be vastly different than someone else.
That said, and what i mentioned earlier and in my rant many moons ago, the addition of the new category really screws all this up because it's not judged and awarded the same. There's always going to be a contest where people disagree about what videos belong where, but AX has a category that doesn't get judged and awarded the same as the rest, and that's the heart of the issue. It's not about wither or not the video is in the wrong category, it's that the video can win something that the other videos can't. That's what makes it unfair and potentially damaging.
If you went to the contest in the past three years you'd understand where I'm coming from, or if you've seen the AMVs at least. A video in the past that was mis-categorized for drama wins best in show, a contestant managed to sneak in straight cut videos twice, a drama video that consisted of some 3D anime/game that had no correlation to drama gets in, etc.
Of course no one would perceive a video the same way but considering the cash prize this year, there should be no room for mistakes in terms of categorization or in terms of the corresponding rules. Its ironic because the fun category contradicts one of the rules that regulates whether or not a parody type video gets in or not, yet videos that do not get into the category, despite following the guidlines of actually belongoing into that category, don't and they aren't dqed despite not following the rules. This was a partial issue with Bohemeniam Rapshody, it was a comedy video in drama, and again it won best in show. It wouldn't have been barred from entering the contest but I'm sure everyone was running in circles trying to understand how that happened. We never even got a definitive answer to why it got in. Not everyone is going to see a video in the same way but there has to be some common ground established.
I'd think twice about trusting the judges with an error like that. If you'd like to trust that type of judgement then I have nothing against you but there has to be a line illustrated somewhere, and judges need to pick out videos based on their competitive quality and nothing else.
I agree it's very frustrating when the rules get broken (I had no entry that year, but the video that won best in show in 2006 was 33 seconds over the maximum time limit). The categorization has always been iffy. My friends and I used to joke that the AMTV-"Pro" category, despite the description, is where they dump subpar videos that don't fit well in other categories. There were a few videos that didn't belong in their categories last year (Michael pointed one of them out during the show, IIRC), and yes it's worse when there is money involved.

I'm really not trying to be a bitch, both videos are of great quality....but...Kevin got disqualified, and yet this video gets in with the same rule in place?
I'm not trying to get him DQ'd I'm just trying to point out the lack of categorization by judges and coordinators.

You're comparing apples and oranges...
because....Kevin got DQ'ed when James and Katy were still running the contest.
With Michael and Nikki running the contest is it COMPLETELY different. Not only is this a different year but the contest is run by different people.
Any questions or reasoning you might have or want to ask about why Kevin's video didn't make it way back in the day, but others did/vice versa, needs to directed towards James and Katy.
Micahel and Nikki weren't running the AMV show at that point in time.
My point is the fact that while it's their contest now, they kept the rule. Hell, they amended it to fit the new category! It was a basic rule that wasn't followed by the judges. Everyone keeps thinking this is a personal attack, but it really wasn't :/ I was simply pointing out a basic rule.

In defense of my own video ...
I believe I edited my video in such a way that the focus is the relation between the music and video.
Keep in mind, the whole point of the 'parody' video rules section is to stop from 'parodies'. Meaning, slapping "The Hangover 2" Trailer track to Golden Boy should NOT be submitted to Comedy, but Fun category. The rules are not there to discourage creation of original work that might fall on the fine lines. It is there to discourage blatant parody videos from being in Comedy. (not even removal from contest, just re-category shuffling).

Lord of the Rings Trailer music to Totoro. The video was made not to MOCK the original but to make something NEW.

But regardless of how you feel you edited your video, would you call it a trailer in any way, shape or form? The rule specifically states that trailers should go into the Fun/OVA category. It's what it was made for. Hell, I'd say that's where the Totoro video should go :/ Regardless of what it was trying to do, audio from a trailer was used! As far as I'm concerned, unless they're syncing to the music IN the trailer and ignoring the spoken dialogue completely, it's still a trailer/parody.

I understand that the rules are old. That's pretty damn obvious. My beef is the fact that the rules weren't just left alone, they were altered. Attention was brought to these specific set of rules and then they were changed to suit the new category and give a place for these videos.
And then the rule was ignored.
To clarify on the whole trailer belonging in fun/ova idea.
The way I personally view the amended rule.
If you take the complete soundtrack from a trailer...sayyyyy the star trek movie trailer, then use that as your audio bed and edit your video to fit it. To fun/ova it goes.
If you edit your video in such a way that it looks like a trailer/promotion for the series in question but isn't using an actual trailer track...well, isn't that one of the points of an AMV? To promote the piece you are editing around? Using the argument that if it looks like a trailer it must belong in fun/ova then any video which drops the name of the anime being used during it qualifies potentially as a trailer and should be shuffled. It wasn't the intent to be that draconian about it.
In my mind the whole point of an amv was to promote interest in the title being used. If you can make something look like it actually belonged in the series, be it an opener or trailer, especially with just music? You have done exactly what a majority of amvs are supposed to do. In my opinion anyway.

I try very hard not to take your comments as personal attacks. It isn't the method more the delivery that gets my ire. Its a difference in personalities. While I can respect being direct with minimal fluff. There are ways to get your point across and be direct while not making it sound like a personal attack. And no, I am not saying become a sycophant. BTW fyi, your video got the highest score in it's category.
