A couple more stand outs,
"Feel Alive" by L Pereira. I really enjoyed this one. What did him in from making the finalists was the audio quality. The video was incredible. It totally fit in to AMTVPro. It was fun. I was particularly impressed with how deftly he walked the line with almost but not quite crossing the nudity limits. it was most amusing. Unfortunately the Audio was well above redlining and by the time I got it it was too late to re-submit with better audio.
Which brings me to a minor rant I will probably mention at the AMV panel if Nic lets me.
I have noticed alot of editors don't pay attention to their audio. I literally had one entrant tell me when I asked him to resub for audio as he was one of the early entries and he had time or if he wanted to go as it was, he said something akin to "Oh well I thought you were just going to normalize it all anyway and that would bring it down." Blink blink huh?
Ok, I realize not everyone has a degree in television production such as myself. I realize not everyone has taken sound engineering classes.(I strongly recommend you do if you have the chance you will be amazed at what you learn), but I saw many videos that redlined ALOT. The above mentioned video is one of them. Normalization may bring audio levels down but it won't remove distortion that is already present. In Premiere/Final Cut, Vegas or whatever you are using for your editing, if your Audio meters/indicators hit red its BAD. Once you hit red you introduce distortion and clipping. Normalization of audio is a compression technique. If you have a wide dynamic range in your audio, normalization can potentially fuck that up and make your audio muddy.
It was really obvious in one or two cases who knew what they were doing with audio, there were a couple of entries that when I was checking them in premiere I was watching the meters and they rode the line perfectly. Digital Paradox's "Freedom" in the action category is one example. I was heavily impressed with the quality of the audio in that one.
"But Panther, this is a Video contest. Editing is the focus!" I hear some people say. Well how can I appreciate the video editing if the audio is so crappy or distorted that it is distracting or painfull? And its a Music video contest. Music is audio.
Ok rant over. I apologize I just had to get that out there. There is alot more that I could rant for hours. but I am sure in most cases I am preaching to the choir. [jumps off soap box]
Seriously though, if you can take an audio for video course at your local Community College, do! You will be amazed how you will find that information useful in other areas of your life as well.

Edit: yes I know the rules say that we will be normalizing audio. It will be on a case by case basis and I will be trying to do it by volume adjustments not compression.
