I sent in the video that I simply enjoyed and had fun with. I wanted to do something a little different from what I am used to and also an different take on the materials I used.
I do agree with Asyukun that one of the benefits of pro is being able to make categories that are different from every contest even if it isn't as large as you main categories. However it lets us editors have fun with our work and compete how we see ourselves as artists.
I mean heck now we have a pet focus category. Never would exist anywhere else and is funny as all heck to toss out there.

Being the dumb n00b that I am, I sent in the one that I thought best showed that while I may be making bad videos, I'm less cluess about how to do it.
<shrugs> Of course, the fact remains that even I myself don't know how I'd categorize it.

There isn't enough comedies to really suffice seperating it into parody though. Heck even with lighthearted and fun videos there was a severe lacking. If there were an abundance of videos I could see splitting it but with the entries there are it would be very redundant.

I sent in a video I made specifically for the Pro contest. I like having contest deadlines to keep me working on a video so I don't forget the origional reason I started it. It helps keep me on my toes.
I figured rather then send in my more recent deviation from my normal creatorns, I'd stick to what I seem to do best (but that's only because it's all I ever seem to churn out). And since I like to think that each new video I make is better then the one before because I've learned more and have more experience, I like to think I submitted my best work so far.

I guess it depends on what you consider "comedy"... My view of whats funny is pretty odd which is why I don't really make comedy videos... I think I'd be the only one who found them funny. IMHO there are several comedy videos and several parody videos.Illia Sadri wrote:There isn't enough comedies to really suffice seperating it into parody though. I think if you run through the videos a second time and relax the category definitions a little, things will start to fit.aoi_neko wrote:There may have been some that could have been *called* instrumental, but none where I think that really fits. I rather wish we had "no award" as a specific voting option. I'm just not nominating or voting for anything in instrumental. Same for dance....
My problems with finding enough candidates are in romance and horror....
For Horror, I thought the Boogiepop Phantom (37) was the only clear fit, but the Paranoia Agent (51) is sufficiently macabre and the Blame! (23) video is certainly dark enough (although it's probably more of an 'art' video than anything else). (45) has a certain "gates of hell" kind of flavor in a different sense. Oh, and (5)....
In Romance, the Gravi, Noir, and Maison Ikkoku videos all seem to fit. Beyond the Clouds perhaps. The Kare Kano (17) is character profile, and the Laputa (21), despite its song, is sentimental.
Instrumental, you got me. (28) counts and I would throw in (37) "la la la" doesn't count.
I was thinking of putting (19) Cromartie HS in Dance because I don't know where else to put it. "Most reminiscent of early 80's MTV style videos"?

Yeah that video I watched and I was just thinking "What did I just watch and does it even have a category in existence?"WalterScott wrote: I was thinking of putting (19) Cromartie HS in Dance because I don't know where else to put it. "Most reminiscent of early 80's MTV style videos"?

Got my DVDs
Well, I received my DVDs in Germany. I actually tried posting to the thread just a bit ago, to say that I couldnt seem to vote, but thats all fixed now.
I noticed the same chapter skipping problems....only a problem if you are skipping chapters, hehehe. That would not have been a problem, but my disks seemed to want to skip a bit, so I kept having to "rewind" to get back to where it had skipped. I watched any video that skipped through again, to give it a full viewing. That means I watched a certain video for an hour and a half, but I got through it, and now I will not be sleeping tonight.
I have to say that I was so amazed by the quality of videos this year, and I am truly proud to be in a contest with such outstanding editors. I can't wait to find out who made what!
Best of luck, everyone!!!
