Poetic Ops 1:1

Post by Poetic_Kaos » Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:35 pm

Sorry, it is unlikely any of my opinions will actually rhyme.

My average word count per op is 330, although I normally write more. So, I you want some details come and post here. If there is anything in particular you want be to focus on make note of it in your post and it will be done. I have free time over Easter holiday so your opinion will arrive promptly.

Rules:
1) 1:1 exchange only
2) No video files under 15mb; unless your vid is like a min long

Your opinion has me nearly in tears. It really discouraged me. It was my very first remake- making improvements from the first version, where back then (in January) I knew jack about sync/timing/etc.

I really, really, did not mean for my opinion to bring you to tears. Your video is not by far the worst video I have ever seen. If that was the case your video would have been closer to ones than the grade you got (I have actually give ones across the board on one occasion, and your video was nowhere close to that.)

Now I know my opinion was not all streamers and stars, but it was what I thought, and what I thought was not all bad. This is key, an opinion is just that, an opinion. I am sure there are others on this site that would completely disagree with me, and tout your video as greatness. My first video I believe to be horrible. With that in mind I needed no outside influence to become better. It is important to find your own drive, your own course. My opinion may have put a fork in the road. Now it is up to you whether you stop and look or continue forward.

You are a very harsh grader then. My first 3 videos would probably get all 1's from you- MPEG1, VHS footage, subtitles, little if any sync, etc.

I am glad you do not do it out of spite. I don't think I have ever given all ones. In fact- I don't ever remeber giving a 1 to anyone in any category ever. But I am no lax grader either- I do comment and some people have asked me about the relatively low scores I gave (meaning 6's and 7's when everyone else gave 9's and 10's).

I don't wanna quit making AMVs.

And u shouldn’t you’re a hell of an editor. i don’t know what Poetic_Kaos is talking about but i thought your remake was better than your first and i can see that your footage definitely improved.

Keep up the good work. :D

Some people may have noticed that there are persons hanging around the org that give out 9-10 scores like they'd have their house full of them and need to get rid of the darn numbers. While it's nice to have good scores.. 1) it doesn't help much to see where you'll need to improve 2) you start to think your AMV is better than it really is.* 3) It trashes the whole idea of rating AMVs by opinions.

(* I have got 10s given to crap like Carol of the Cute Ones.. Makes me smile at the tought that those people won't be able to give 11 or 12 scores to AMVs they'll find superior later on. For same reason I very rarely give a 10. Even giving a 9 is something I usually consider more than once and even then I sometimes think I went too easy on the poor AMV-person)

Good! One should keep making AMVs as long as he/she wants to do them, no matter what people say about them. People should keep making AMVs for themself, not other people :) Don't let one opinion discourage you. Just look into the opinion and think how you can improve yourself.

I really would rather have more opinions from persons like Poetic_Kaos who give more thought to their opinions than the generic "10-10-10-10-9-10-10 OH this was SOOO great!"-people.
...which reminds me that I still kinda owe Poetic_Kaos one op ^_^' I'll give one when I have more to say than "ooo.. flashy" ;)

At least Poetic_Kaos explained. Someone else once gave me a really low one and said the video was torture to watch with little if any other explanation.

I only give 9s and 10s if I really like the anime/song/theme combination and/or the aspect was EXTREMELY superb. Which is rare. And an often done anime/band that is overrated is unlikely to get it.

Did I scare everyone away? I am not an ogre, and as Scandia said, “At least Poetic_Kaos explained.” Despite what has been said I do give high scores as well, 16 of 63 ops have average 9 or higher.

So, why not put your AMV on the line? Mine is.
