New D.O.A Movie

Post by Zeiram999 » Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:10 am

Has anyone seen the new trailers for the D.O.A. Movie? I know that its not really anime but the characters in the games sure look a lot like anime characters.

I think its pretty cool that they're making more and more games and comics into movies, but sometimes I just wish they'd make them sleeker and less campy. This in turn might make people have a bit more respect for the source material, rather than simply be entertained by them; and maybe that would make them want to see the originals, instead of just looking at it and saying (Gosh, that was cool; who thought of that?).

Let me give an example where I think credit should be due to Asian inspired films. I realize that its not animated, but its the same deal. This years oscar-winner for best picture was Scorsesse's "The Departed" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Everyone thinks scorsesse's a genius for making this sh*t up, but in truth its based on the Hong Kong action film Infernal Affairs, which I believe is based on a Japanese comic book. Is there anything else we're going to steal from these people?...Then again, the Japanese did sort of steal baseball from us, and we stole land from the Native Americans and they stole our money to make Casinos from Health Care and Politics so what's not to love I suppose. Whatever works. Buyah!....

This is America, we get the horrid shit last thank goodness...

Wife wants to see it though, makes me cringe ***

Wish they made a CG version of the darn thing using THE REAL STORY behind everything... It's straight forward really

1. Kasumi gets revenge and kills for the first and only time.
2. Hayate is experimented on and left for dead in Germany's Black Forest
3. Ayane kills Genra, her adopted father.
4. Helena's repossession of the Doatec organization

All the games in chronological order CAN slide together if one actually READS THE MANUALS GOD!!! If only game movie makers did that maybe we wouldn't end up with shoddy crappy games turned movies. What's really pathetic is that the best live-action game turned movie isn't even from a Japanese game, its' MORTAL KOMBAT for cryin' out loud...

"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Its actually not half bad movie.

I was looking forward to it back when it was supposed to come out in September, then it got pushed back to November, then it dissapeared. I got fed up and in December, managed to find a copy to watch. It was better than I expected, seeing as fighting game movies aren't usually that good (MK was great, MK2 sucked, and SF was only ok). This was definately a good film for the genre, about the same as MK, imo. The casting was great and everything... I just feel really bad for Robin Shou, now. :P

Anyway, when they finally announced it coming to US theaters, I got excited, cause I want to see this on the big screen, so I'll be there opening day, unles I have something else to do.

Don't knock it til you've tried it. You might be surprised.

Its actually a good flick.

I've tried it, oh did I try it. After the first minute, I skimmed and then i jumped and finally, I just figured the crap wasn't watch watching at all. The acting was horrible, the scenes and the attire were atrocious, and finally, the voices were the devils re-instrumentation of kittens in a blender. Before you watch this, watch some kittens being pureed. I swear, the kittens look and sound better.

It was exactly what I though it would be. A good action film with some nice stunts, nothing more. If you look at it as such you will likely enjoy it more. I thought Holly Valance was great as Christie and Nash was pretty good as Bass, had me laughing a lot.

I made a music video done to Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive. Waiting for the upload to finish atm. If your interested you can find it in my signature link when its finished processing.

Thats not trying it... thats skimming it, and missing what makes it worth while. You don't read a novel to look at the pictures. Get it?

You call it skimming, I'll call it skipping the retarded, non-essential crap. As for your analogy, you have it turned around. This movie was all about the pictures and very little about the story. Get it?

What i'm saying is that you didn't watch the movie, so of course scnes here or there are going to be retarded, becasue you don't know what lead to them. You didn't watch the movie, so your opinion on it is incomplete. Its like you picked up a book and flipped through it for a some good pictures and didn't find any, becasue its a book.

You didn't try it. You hadn't the patience, and you admitted that, though you tried to say you tried in when you didn't. You're like a kid who doesn't want to try something so he says he hates it, and then tries a little and says, "yep I hate it," when you really haven't given it a chance.

Get it now?

Normally a person would watch everything in a movie even if it was non-essential fluff. If they don't watch the filler material, they come away with only glimpses of the movie. In most other movies, you would miss out on some critical information, plot, or experience. That said, DOA isn't like those described movies. Perhaps you may not, but I certainly didn't miss anything particularly essential or enjoyable, the majority of the script could've been collapsed into half an hour.

Since analogies are already being used, I would compare it to watching an episode on TV. The corporate gods deem it that you are suppose to watch everything including the commercials, but given a choice, I would skip past those commercials.

I guess I'm just a little different then. I don't have the patience to watch something in full that is blatantly trash and filler. You may ask, how do I know when something is worth watching? It's actually quite simple. Something is worth watching when the dialog is forwards the plot and the actions enhance that expression. If you fast forward through DOA with subtitles or pause every so often to listen to the actors speak, you can get a sense of where the story is heading, but in DOA, it's different. Most of the dialog samples would turn out to be rather unimportant or wasteful.
