I completely forgot to add mine: I had seen commercials for Bubblegum Crisis 2040 for awhile but it just looked boring as hell to me. For the longest time I convenced myself that it wasn't even worth the time of watching but soon PDperfection got the box set and tried to get me to watch it. I still refused. Finally one day when he came over to my house for a SSBM tournament, he brought along the box set and basically forced me to watch it. At first I wasn't impressed but after the first two episodes I started to like it. After the first dvd ended, I jumped up and grabbed the next dvd and slapped it in my player. From that point on I started to not just animes just by commercials. The same goes for fruits basket. I did the same to it but after hearing Garylisk talk about it I decided to check it out and man did I get hooked.

I wasn't expecting Cowboy Bebop to be anugood cuz I hadn't heard anything about it and the name is kinda stupid to the ear, how wrong I was. I also wasn't expecting much of Macross Plus because the others were so shit.
Others have totally let me down like Outlaw Star, absolutely no plot, Ninja Resurrection(stupidly thought it was sequel to Ninja Scroll, again how wrong I was) and I've come to realise that Trigun wasn't as good as I thought it was.

I'd say Cowboy Bebop too. The name sounded kinda dumb at first, and when I first watched it, I was disapointed with what I saw. Of course the first episode I watched was #7, and I thought the main character was VT. And I also thought Spike's hair style was stupid too. I actually didn't watch it again for several months! However, I now think it's the greatest anime of all time. All those little annoyances are things I actually like now! Boy was I wrong about that show!

Ditto on Cowboy Bebop, I thought it had the weirdest names but now I love it...
"The highest good is like water.
Water gives life to ten thousand things
and does not strive.
It flows in places men reject an so it like
the Dao.
In dwelling, be close to the land.
In meditation, go deep in the heart.
In dealing with others, be gentle and kind.
In speech, be true.
In ruling, be just."

Dai-guard. If you watch the trailer, it looks like a really cheesy rip off of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Getter Robo set to really cheesy Japanese ska music. But it turned out to be a really innovative Giant Robot Anime that doesn't really conform to most Giant Robot Anime cliches. Very funny at times too. It's another great Xebec production, although I'd still prefer to watch Nadesico.
Slayers Next and Slayers Try. Believe it or not, I didn't really like the first Slayers series. The comedy just seemed too slapstick and the action unbelievably different from the fantasy anime I was used to seeing. (Record of Lodoss War) So I held off on checking out the following series for a few years, but a friend convinced me that I needed to turn my way of viewing the anime around. To view it for the unbelievableness of it and the wacky plot twists. To not to watch it like I was expecting RoLW. And it became vastly more enjoyable and now I absolutely adore the series.
