-Action: Rurouni Kenshin (Four words: Saitoh, Soujirou and Kenshin).
-Comedy: Excel Saga
-Drama: Wow, I can't think of anything that is JUST drama.
-Romance: Ah! My Goddess or Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (His and Her)
-Fantasy: Vision of Escaflowne (other choices? Lodoss, FY (bleh)...easy choice).
-Mecha: Gundam Wing or original Macross (pretty easy to get it down to these two).
-Horror: Don't think I've seen any anime that was scary yet.
Non-trivial categories:
-Episodic (lack big epic stories): Cowboy Bebop (haven't seen GITS: Stand Alone Complex). Almost all anime is epic and episodic, Bebop is the opposite.
-Character Driven: Neon Genesis Evangelion (no brainer)
-Story: Tough one, I love Esca, Eva and Kenshin's stories (Perhaps that is why they are my favorite shows).

Atomic and Wolfwood are correct. Shinseiki is not translated as Neon Genesis, in fact I *think* it means "New Century". However, this is done quite often when importing an anime to the states. "Tenkuu no Escaflowne" anything close to "Vision of Escaflowne." Tenkuu no Escaflowne literally means "Escaflowne of the Heavens/Sky" (If my japanese is correct). If it were Vision of Escaflowne I THINK it would be "Miraizou no Escaflowne" since Miraizou is "vision of the future." However, Vision of Escaflowne sounds cooler (to some, I like Escaflowne of the Heavens)AtomicWeezleman wrote:NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Comedy = Ranma 1/2

Also, New Century can easily be "translated" to "Neon Genesis" (new beginning). I know it's not 100%, but you can see the "pseudo" translation. However, like Atomic says, this doesn't really matter so much as to point out.
