I wonder if anyone's heard of Mahou Senshi Riui - it's a cute fantasy comedy that came out a year or two ago - done by the people responsible for Lodoss War. I'd call that underrated.

Mmmmm...unheard of anime?
Well currently I'm enjoying Tenshi Na Konamiki, but I haven't heard a whole lot of discussion about that one. And Witch Hunter Robin seems to be pretty interesting. But those are both current titles that I bet will get to be more well known soon.
As for older commerically available titles, I always though that Sukeban Deka was pretty neat, if only for the fact that the main character manages to kick ass using a yo-yo. And for sheer oddness factor I recomend Shonan Bakusozoku: Bomber Bikers of Shonan, A story about a high school biker gang lead by Eguchi Yoosuke. He's also leader of the school's handcrafts club (specialty needlepoint). You can still find it in some bargin bins for a couple of bucks.

Angel Links
A good portion of people know Outlaw Star, but pass up this spin off series for a few reasons. The pastelly colors, too much fan-service from a 16-year old girl, 'Links Cannon... SHOOOOOT!!' But like other underrated series, Angel Links is only good if you watch it to the end. The stories at the end are at least as heart-wrenching as any of the more emotional episodes of Outlaw Star, maybe even more than Cowboy Bebop. It's also somewhat disturbing, basically a typically good plot by hajime yatate. Plus the music is just so soothing and catchy.
A.D. Police TV - To Protect and Serve
The cheapest albeit only 12 episode long series you can find by any American Anime translation company. It may not be very pretty when compared to other anime that it came out with at the same time, but it's got good character development and you'd be surprised at how much mystery and emotion can be packed into a 12 episode series. It's also has a few 'bullet-time' animations that I haven't seen used in any other series, that while again aren't animated "super-well" it's pretty unique.

Re: Name That Anime! Woohoo
Yep. Three-op OVA. Tis pretty darn ecchi. Bordering on hentai ^_^ In my opinion the J series was much, much better. J again was OK, but not as good as original J series.TekkaRepliroid Zero wrote:No, there IS a Saber Marionette R, 3 ep OVA if I'm not mistaken. Apparently rather ecchi, word is 8) .Rozard wrote:I believe it's Saber Marionette J. Also, I seem to remember reading something saying either it was a sequel from another series, or there is another series after that one.paizuri wrote:Saber Marionette R (I think)

black heaven, psycho diver, new dominion tank police, gunsmith cats, bubble gum crisis. My friends who are anime freaks looked at my like I had some head injury when I asked them about these titles, and swore I was making this crap up.

i'd have to say the anime movie suikoden, it is one of my favorite anime movies but no body i talk to has heard of it. sword for truth is decent but if you don't like an endingless movie. cause there is no end it's not ubearable long either it just doesn't end the guy walks off and they set up for more stuff then it just ends. really funny non anime series nobody has really heard of is mystery science theator 3000 i'd definitly recomend it.
