I haven't seen it, but how many of you that are saying the R rating is bullshit, have actually seen the movie? Are you saying it shouldn't get an R rating because you don't think the subject matter trully deserves it, or are you just mad because you won't be able to get in to see the movie without an adult?

I have seen it and I dont think that it should be rated R, but if they want it R than they can do what ever they want.

They're prolly giving it an R rating considering that they want to avoid getting bad calls from parents when they took their kid (13 years or older I'd assume) to see it and ended up having pissy fits due to delicious blood spatter scenes, Faye's cheese cake shot *drools* and other things like vicious stabblings, head shots (better stop reading, these may be spoilers) chest grabbing/digging/painfull spearing with fingers, terrorist activity, language, yes, the dyke too.

It isn't really hard to see why it is given an R rating, I mean, look at the Matrix, I didn't think it was that harsh of a movie, but was rated R. But nothing really ever gets a fully just rating, I think it shouldn't be R, but it is quite obvious why it is, so I'm not going to complain...besides..I'm of age anyways...

It rate R. Well I could see why but not like that going to stop me or my friend since both of us are over that age of 17.

It was given an R rating. R's a Respectable rating for Cowboy Bebop, and a nation wide release I hear.. nice. I just wish they kept the former tagline for the movie.

Another thought since terrorist activity was mentioned. Perhaps because terrorism has hit America so hard, those that rated the movie felt that the terrorist material in the movie is too sensitive to be shown to younger audiences as well.

Although, personally I feel that most American teenagers should be able to grasp the concept of terrorism and how much of a threat it is.

Well, I only take those ratings as suggestive appropriate age. lol

And ya, TekkaRepliroid Zero, it'd probably be rated something like that for around here. ^_^ R rated is normally reserved for the stuff that's really strong.

I have not seen the movie yet, so I don't know what content is in the film which would make the movie rated "R".

However, I know a lot of American parents will take their children to ANY MOVIE that is animated... it is the assumption that if it's animated, it's for kids.

A long time ago, I was working at a movie theatre and the movie "Cool World" came out. The ads for Cool World showed that the movie was about an animated character who wanted to have sex with a real person. The movie was made by Ralph Bakshi and it was originally an R rated film. The representative from Paramont, Frank Mancusso Jr., said that "Adults don't watch cartoons" and hacked out the R-Rated scenes and a few other scenes and gave the film a PG-13 rating.

Parents didn't pay attention to the ads... they just saw that it was an animated film and were bringing their kids to the film.

I warned many who came to the theatre that the film wasn't for kids... and many parents came out of the film disgusted by what they saw...

The movie was NEVER meant for kids.

So... I am convinced that if a lot of parents take their kids to the Cowboy Bebop movie, which I will assume has violence in it at least on the level of the TV series... then I can imagine that there will be a lot of outraged parents who will create a negative buzz for the film.

I think the movie probably will do better overall with the "R" rating.
