There was one production predating Astroboy in 1962 (but it wasn't a TV series, so Astroyboy is the first series, as I already said). i think astroboy or gigantor is the oldest. Lupin the 3rd if from the late 1960's

Well, the word Anime is borrowed from the word Animation, but, I think the original question was refering to Japanese Animation, which is what the word "Anime" is generally associated with.Mroni wrote:Oh yeah and since anime is the french word for animation I don't astroboy would qualify as the first.
And well, Astro Boy is indeed one of the very first works of Japanese Animation, though it's not by a long shot one of the first Animated works.
