RahXephon's creators were heavily influenced by Eva. I believe I read somewhere that they wan't to make a show in the image of Eva, but done better and differently. There are many similarities/comparisons. RahXephon is better in my opinion. It's story is told so well. There are less immature moments than in Eva. The love story between Ayato and Haruka is beautifully told. The director of Eva purposely set out to fuck with our minds with the ending of Eva. You don't find that here. Ayato is much more of a "hero" than Shinji. He is more mature. I found myself nearly yelling at the tv while watching End of Eva when Shinji wouldn't do anything except feel sorry for himself. He was simply pathetic. Asuka and Misato were the shows saving graces. Watch RahXephon- it's amazingly good- best anime I've seen.

Well, I refuse to even admit the existence of End of Eva since it sucked so badly. I mean, Shinji may have been a pretty scared little boy, but in End of Eva its like Anno decided to rip out what spine he had left.
Anyway, this thread isnt about Eva, its about RahXephon. I've only seen the first 2 volumes so far, but from what I've seen its an awesome show that really isnt that similar to Eva. If you want an Eva ripoff, I'd say Argento Soma is much closer in that respect....

No... Argento Soma is one of my favourite shows and I refuse to entertain the idea that it is at all like eva. Ryu is nothing like Shinji. This characters driving force is revenge. The ending turns the show on it's head true but in much more satisfing way than eva. Plus Ryu is hardly ever the "hero" in this Frank is. Frank does all the monster thrashing.
Anyway to my mind of the three RahXephon is my favourite then Argento Soma and finally Eva (purely due to the ending). They are similar but only because they are all in the same theme or genre.

There is little doubt that Rah Xephon and Eva have similar archtypes in characters. But that alone should not stop someone from seeing it. I have enjoyed the first 4 DVDs and found that yes there are similarities but there are differences too. The two stories are different. And that makes a big difference
As some have mentioned the story telling of this series is different than Eva. They hold different perspectives as the stories go on. Both are quality anime and both deserve their peice in our Anime libraries for different reasons.
So dont let the similarities be your deciding factor.

RahXephon is very similar to Evangelion, but it doesn't have such religious background as Eva had. I've seen all of both series and I believe RahXephon is far better than Eva.
I really want to see the RahXephon movie...anyone know if/when it's gonna be out as either a fansub or import DVD or ..anything of that sort?

I think shinji was written to be a selfish and pathetic bastard. Many Eva characters have those types of issues.
More into point. I think RahXephon was written much better, and had less filler episodes.

Anno did that on purpose. If you watch the voice over comentary track they talked about it. The fans got everything they wanted, more development in Auska and Misato, more fighting, more blood and gore. but it was like a deal with the devil, it all went terribly wrong. why ... well watch Eva, and then watch EoE just in case you haven't yet.Evil Urchin wrote:Well, I refuse to even admit the existence of End of Eva since it sucked so badly. But i congradulate Anno for his efforts. He took a series that was FUBAR to begin with and made it even more fucked. And it's all because of bitchy fans rejecting his initial idea.

I fully respect a decision to hate EoE.
Personally though, I thought it was a good movie, but wasn't quite pleased with the ending, that is until the final few seconds. That redeemed the whole preceding half-hour of headfuck that preceded it.
But I like headfuck too.
As for Rah, I've been meaning to watch it, but since my traditional going-broke-at-CNAE ceremony took place on schedule this year, it doesn't look likely. Unless one of my friends gets it.
And when I do watch it, I hope to god I don't have the idea of comparing it to Eva in my head. Noone should do that. Comparisons are shallow, expectations are a prison. Enjoy the series for what it is. Besides, I strongly doubt it'll live up to Eva (in my eyes, anyways).

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
